$200.00 | | Purchased At: | Stolen Bike Auction | | Strengths: | Really nice geometry/ rider position. Cool rapid fire gear shifters. Really nice club roost riser bars. Gold in colour. | | Weaknesses: | Canitlever breaks | | Bike Setup: | As purchased from police auction - with SPDs, riser bars, was going to put susp. on the fron forks but couldn't afford it. Did put Michelin road tyres on as I mainly ride through the city and the bike zoomed. | | Bottom Line: | I rode it for 8 years and this has been my favourite bike of all time. Really quick, easy to maintain, a wonderfully golden colour and exactly what I needed. It was stolen two days ago and I don't how I'm going to replace it. I did have 0000 as my lock code though. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$300.00 | | Purchased At: | Some defunct cycle shop | | Strengths: | Frame, brakes were decent enough at the time | | Weaknesses: | peddles, all the acera stuff (changes gears randomly), taco-ed a few rims | | Bike Setup: | stock, except for the peddles (got some metal ones) | | Bottom Line: | I have abused this bike hard for over 7 years, and I still ride it to all my classes at UBC. Definetly worth the money paid. I got hit by a car a few months back, 1500 dollars damage to the minivan, but after the wooziness went away from my head I rode my bike home. Excellent frame. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I am 6'2" and 230 and i have never held back on it i have done irreperable damage to many simmilarily priced bikes frames ect. in a short time span but my kona has stood up against everything i have dished out. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$300.00 | | Purchased At: | LBS | | Strengths: | Frame, brakes are awesome, everything else is pretty decent | | Weaknesses: | Wheels, pedals | | Similar Products Used: | lava dome, kula, munimula | | Bike Setup: | 5 inch Marzocchi Z1, lx crankset, rhyno lite w/ deore hub, specialized tires, new riser, seat, stock shifters, leavers, brakes and drive train ('cept the crankset) | | Bottom Line: | This was an awesome bike to start off with. The stock bike was fine for what i was doing. A few things started to break and bend when i started to ride a bit more, but if you start to ride a bit rougher, just upgrade the parts that break. Great frame to build-up around. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$400.00 | | Purchased At: | J. E. James | | Strengths: | Takes a lot of knocks, great value, 100% student machine, came with some cheap Tektro v-brakes but damn were they good. | | Weaknesses: | Some truly awful components, once the RST 280 forks we replaced with RockShox XC's bike seemed to halve in weight, left crank broke within a few months. | | Similar Products Used: | GT Palomar | | Bike Setup: | RockShox XC, Deore gears, DMR V12's, general cross country setup | | Bottom Line: | This was my first proper mountain bike and the price was the main thing that caught my eye. All my mates did DH but I soon found myself XC'ing. Switched necessary components to XC setup and it's been great. Components were terrible though, soon set out on new life ambition of removing all Acera I could find. Just the crankset to go now (my LBS replaced broken crank with some DOTEK thing which is just as bad). Overall though - I never looked back after demanding this bike for Christmas many moons ago. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$300.00 | | Purchased At: | BioCycles | | Strengths: | Low price, stout frame. I've done all sorts of falls, spills, crashes, etc. and this bike has never asked for anything in return other than a quick spray with the hose. | | Weaknesses: | The front fork (RST) absolutely sucks butt. Acera component mix has really sketchy shifting in all situations. Heavy for a hardtail. | | Similar Products Used: | Bianchi Ocelot. Just bought a Trek Fuel 98 and love it. | | Bike Setup: | Still stock as day one, save for new tires. | | Bottom Line: | Good first bike to take in the woods, bang it around, and learn what you're doing before you hop on something of more value. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Give it Vee-brakes and it will kick. A suspension fork would be nice too, and maybe stx grouppo
