Favorite Trail:Älvsjö BMX course
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $300.00
Purchased At:bikestore dude
Strengths:Very good bike! I love it. Nice frame and geometry.
Strong as hell!
Weaknesses:Replace the pedals...they aren't that good. :(
The glow in the dark stickers comes of easy.
Similar Products Used:Other BMX bikes...
Bike Setup:Avid arch rival 40, Roox Seatpost, otherwise stock.
Bottom Line:I bought my BMX to become a better technical rider. I used to ride BMX a long long time ago, now i'm back in the BMX saddle again. And the Kona KuKu is a lot more fun to ride than any other BMX i've ridden. Good for DIRT jumping and some racing to. Very nice.

Get one for yourself to.

Favorite Trail:dirt jumping & urban assualt
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $375.00
Purchased At:Duke's Cycle, Toronto
Strengths:Quality build, good specs and angles, GLOW IN THE DARK GRIPS & DECALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Weaknesses:The pedals suck!
Similar Products Used:Old school BMX bikes-Redline & GT.
Bike Setup:I have the "v-brake" canti-bosses, so I'm running a Shimano
XTR brake with a LX lever. The crank will be the next up-
grade.
Bottom Line:Bang for buck it's a fun bike to ride. I wanted to get back into BMX, but didn't want to spend a lot on a Hoffman or anything like that yet. It's taken some good hits, and the bike is holding up nicely. I wish the stock crank & pedals had been better, but the stock wheelset & tires are good-Sun Ditch-Witch's with over sized axled hubs & Maxxis tires.
The 2001's should be great!

Submitted by mitchum a from santa barbara, ca
Date Reviewed: April 29, 2000
Duration Product Used:Tested or demo'ed only
Strengths:solid frame, nice geometry, oversized axles are a nice bonus
Weaknesses:cheesy brake setup, overkill on the handlebar
Similar Products Used:gt fueler, s&m bennett, huffy tl88, infinity
Bike Setup:I rode the kona stock with 3/4" off each side of bars and pegs
Bottom Line:Unlike, the mama, which was a little bit confused, Kona did a great job with the kuku, as I mentioned, a two piece bar with a sturdy wall thickness would have been lighter, cheaper, and totally sufficient. The brake was alright but a 990 would have felt better. Overall, reaaly nice geometry and pretty well worth the money, maybe next year Kona will put the profile cranks and sprocket from the mama on the kuku and make a higher end version. A no holds-barred set up with this frame would definitely be sweet.
