Submitted by Eric Emel a Cross Country Rider from Bristol UK
Date Reviewed: August 30, 2002
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $800.00
Purchased At:Bike Bristol
Strengths:Great bike, nice build for the price, bottle opener drop outs, Race Face cranks (prodigys), great steel frame.
Weaknesses:The fork is horrible, the new P2 oversize steel, what ever happened to the old P2? Replaced with Pace rigid's, no rear disc mount. =( It has a flip flop hub, so why only one cogset? Suppose it is a single speed. Seemed a little heavy out the box for a rigid single speed.
Similar Products Used:First singlesped, first rigid, first bike with v-brakes, haven't had a steel frame for about 9 years! Otherwise various cannondales, santa cruz's and mountains cycles. Oh and a Kona Humu 7 once upon a time.
Bike Setup:xc, rigid and lovely pace forks....are these not availble in the US? You really are missiing out.
Bottom Line:Great bike, shame about the fork, buy hey I now have pace rigid's and the world has become better. I've heard single speeds should have 180mm cranks, this doesn't, not sure if I mind as I have never tried them. Broke the back brake, was replaced no probs. But overall a great bike, actually one of the nicest riding I have owned.

Date Reviewed: June 18, 2002
Favorite Trail:Highland
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $700.00
Purchased At:Town & Country
Strengths:Beautiful high quality butted steel frame.
Weaknesses:The stock tires are 1.9 inch. I'm using 2.4" with less than 30 psi. The chainline is not perfect. I wish it had disk brakes.
Similar Products Used:First single speed.
Bike Setup:Stock except WTB Mutanoraptor 2.4" tires and eggbeater pedals. Bike came with 34/17 gearing - web page says 36/17. The bike did not have the usual Kona P2 fork - this fork is fatter and has leading dropouts.
Bottom Line:I'm faster on every trail and I'm having a blast with a rigid fork and one gear! This bike handles better than any bike I've ever ridden.

The bike is available in five sizes and I think it's a good deal for the MSRP of $800.00
