$2000.00 | | Purchased At: | Chevin Cycles | | Strengths: | A top quality, light frame, white shimmer paint job is great but has chipped now which is a shame. Stock components were ok - XT gear set and Hayes Nine disk brakes. A poor seat and seat post though and only Bontrager Select bar and stem. | | Weaknesses: | Chipping Paint after 2 years - would love to get is sorted out. Otherwise - nothing - a great bike | | Similar Products Used: | Only Klein | | Bike Setup: | XTR crank, front mech+ cassette, XT rear mech. Thompson masterpiece seat post, Avid Juicy Ultimate brakes, still Duke XC shocks, but upgrading to Pace XC30s when I can afford it. Tune king and kong hubs, Sapin CX-RAY spokes and Mavic rims - v light custom wheels. | | Bottom Line: | A super fast, dream bike with responsive handling. I am 14 stone, but still feel like a pro!!!! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$2200.00 | | Purchased At: | LBS | | Strengths: | Very Lightweight, awesome detail and color, great compnents. | | Weaknesses: | Due to oversized frame, potential to dent easy. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. | | Similar Products Used: | Trek 9.9, Specialized Stumpjumper, GT LTS. | | Bike Setup: | XT components, Bontrager Race XXX lite carbon handlebars, stem, seatpost and Bontrager race lite pro seat, Rolf Dolomite disc, Mavic 717 w/ Chris King ISO hubs. Chris King Headset and Rock Shox SID Team.
| | Bottom Line: | This bike is AWWWWESOME, for years I have been looking for just the right bike for my needs (4 day city riding /3 days Trail riding). When I bought this bike even with the stock components it handled like a champ, but after a few minor upgrades (carbon components, lightweight wheelset, and CK headset). This bike is in a class by itself, it's fast, stiff, agile, smooth shifts with the XT components (NO XTR way over rated!!!) I LOVE THIS BIKE! When I was at the BS the bike appeared to be a fiery orange, in the sunlight it turned a funky greenish yellow, great paint job. I can't say enough about this bike for the price and the upgrades it was well worth the money. Too bad Klein's website doesn't show the available colors for the attitude, I would have bought this bike years ago. RIDE ON!

$850.00 | | Purchased At: | LBS | | Strengths: | Climbs like a mountain goat. The frame is amazing, stiff, light and eager to accelerate or climb like lighting. No probs with the Duke XC so far, components are adequate, with Bontrager stuff doing the job for now. XT/Deore mix seems to be working well so far. | | Weaknesses: | Paint job too beautiful for a mountain bike...you'll cry when you get your first scratch. No disk tabs on the frame. | | Similar Products Used: | Rigid Raleigh Avalanche for 7 years. | | Bike Setup: | Stock (Duke XC, XT/Deore drivetrain, Bontrager stem, seatpost, bar, wheels, crank, saddle) | | Bottom Line: | Crazy fast bike, climbs well, good for a racer on a budget. ZR9000 frame is great, worthy of upgrades later. Component group is decent, paint job is awesome and you won't look like every other joe shmoe out on the trail! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1400.00 | | Purchased At: | Liitlemoor Bikes Weymouth | | Strengths: | I bought an Attitude basic model 4 years ago just for the frame and completely rebuilt it with trick components and got the overall weight down to 21 lbs. This bike served me well on hard riding in UK (Welsh Mountains mainly) and overseas on holidays (Alps etc.). A fantastic climbing machine with quick acceleration and easy to shoulder when you need to. Paintwork stayed lush and refused to chip. | | Weaknesses: | The frame eventually snapped with a vertical sheer just where the rear mech hanger attaches to the frame plate. This was a model when they had a rear entry wheel arrangement. I took the frame back to the shop where I bought it in Weymouth Dorset under the lifetime warranty arrangement and after a short while they phoned my up to say they had my brand new 2003 model Attitude Comp frame ready to collect. Now you can't grumble at that can you. It looks now they have beefed up the area where the previous frame failed so I guess Klein may have had a few failures in that area. The new frame is a little heavier. The Original was a clained 2.9 lbs but weighed 3.2 lbs (Medium) and the new one weighs 3.5 lbs (Medium) when it is claimed to be 3.2 so they are both up a little but I guess they pick the small frame for weight claims! | | Similar Products Used: | Orange Elite now the E6. Also an exellent bike. | | Bike Setup: | Hope Ti hubs + 517 rims, Next LP cranks, Crank Bros eggbeaters (Cromo), SID SL forks, Monkeylite riser bars, Richey WCS 120 mm stem, XTR rear, XT front, XT Right shifter, Suntour microdrive Thumbie left shifter, USE Alien post with shim, Flite Saddle, Hope Ti BB, Avid Mag V brakes, Chris King Head set (fantastic), XTR Ti 8 sp Cassette, Various tyres depending on terrain. | | Bottom Line: | Superb lightweight racing machine, ideal for long distance unduro if your lower back can take it. Service and Warranty has to be one of the best with no arguments. realy good paint finish that is real hard wearing and hard to chip. You can't go wrong with an Attititude. The new one has internal gear cable guides so I am not too sure how I am going to get on with them for maintenance. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$2000.00 | | Purchased At: | Klein | | Strengths: | Good strong frame with a good feel to it. | | Weaknesses: | 2003 frame-none! | | Similar Products Used: | I would never ride a bike that is not a Klein! I rode a Specialized once and I didn't like it. Klein feels more Aerospace. | | Bottom Line: | I got the 2003 Attitude frame and it feels nice and more Aerospace. I really like the feel and the color on it. I think Klein bikes are the best frames in the world. They fit right and it feels like riding on a spaceship. Next year I'm planning to get the new Attitude xv with XTR components for around $3,000 which I think it is a good deal, I guess it's because it is a hardtail. I'm still sticking with hardtail again because of the performance of climbing and the weight. When they make a full suspension that is lighter and climbs good, I'll go for it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1200.00 | | Purchased At: | International Bicycle Center | | Strengths: | Klein builds one of the best aluminum alloy frames in the business, hands down. This frame is very rigid under my weight (230lbs). The attention to detail is also a PRO. The cables running though the frame is a very nice touch and cleans the bike lines up. The paint is also something to behold. This bike looked black in the showroom. Then I took it outside and and the sunlight made it change from a forest green to a purplish fade. Incredible. I have never seen a piant job like that on a stock vehicle. This bikes accelerates rapidly due to the alloy construction. | | Weaknesses: | I tossed the seat within a week. THe cranks creak a bit under load. | | Similar Products Used: | Tried Trek, Specialized and Gary Fisher models before deciding on the Klein. | | Bike Setup: | Easton Monkeylite XC carbon bars, Selle Italia Flite Trans Am saddle, Shimano XT hydraulic brakes, Thomson Elite seatpost, Wellgo magnesium pedals, RaceFace Good and Evil grips. | | Bottom Line: | This bike climbs like a mountain goat. Very nice geometry overall. The detailing is to die for. Very quick steering bike and stable on downhills. I recommend this bike easily. Very well built and good looking bike. I do not see too many Kleins on the streets of Boston which makes me feel good. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from St.Louis, MO Date Reviewed: July 24, 2003 | | Favorite Trail: | lone wolf | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Purchased At: | straight from Klein | | Strengths: | Everything that makes a Klein a Klein. Perfect geometry, aluminum frame with extended fatigue life, SUPER STIFF RIDE, amazing paint job, proprietary welds, and disc ready hubs. | | Weaknesses: | The seat post is a toy, you can't adjust the angle and the nose of the saddle kinda pokes ya. It's a sweet color but I would rather have an option to choose considering the price. | | Similar Products Used: | Giant xtc se2/se1, NRS 1, Kona Kula, King kikapu, Trek 8000/8500, liquid and a fuel 90 (I tried a few full suspension before settling on a hardtail) | | Bike Setup: | Stock | | Bottom Line: | Hands down Klein makes the best aluminum hardtails in the industry. The best way to look at you Klein purchase is this: Your paying the price you are for the best frame that's also a work of art. It just happens to come with enough components that you can ride it immediately. The only thing it doesn't come with is a working seat post, count on buying one with your bike. The ride is amazing it climbs like a mountain goat on crack, shifting is precise and quick thanks to the xt derailluer (xtr is WAY overrated) and I've never had any mechanical problems at all.
Buy it if you prefer a hardtail and want the best aluminum frame money can buy. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$750.00 | | Purchased At: | from a friend | | Strengths: | It's beautiful, fantastic craftsmanship, lightweight, responsive, shifts better than anything I've ever ridden, great brakes (stopping, a little finicky maintenence wise) | | Weaknesses: | bontrager rim doesn't want to stay true (it could be the rocks I hit?), Used the chainring as a bash ring and now it's a little "modified" but that's not Klein's fault, an apple and oranges comparison but, this weekend I just rode a CC full suspension bike in Durango and was suprised at how I didn't have a millimeter of tire slip, it isn't that I don't love this bike, but after having ridden that bike I would think that the xs weight would be worth it, on rocky uphills the attitiude could be a little too responsive, I probably just need to work on technique.
| | Similar Products Used: | nothing in a CC hard tail, but the Ellsworth Isis is a better bike than I am if you're looking for that kinda thing. | | Bike Setup: | pretty much stock | | Bottom Line: | Great bike, light, fast, and did I mention it's beautiful. I'm usually a little more pragmatic than to be lured by the pretty paint, but I did buy it from my friend, and I'm glad I did. I was riding a bike that was a little too small for me, and the diffference is astonishing (whatever you buy, make sure it fits you). If I had to buy it new, and spend that kind of cash, I might be lured by full suspension (do to the wheel slip on the up) considering the steep sandy/rocky hills out here, but if I had I chance to go back and do it again, F$%# yeah I would.

$750.00 | | Purchased At: | Bicycle Village (www.bicyclevillage.com) | | Strengths: | Amazing weld quality, clean and effective cable routing, decent fork, awesome paint! Very responsive handling from a frame with fantastic geometry. | | Weaknesses: | Avid brakes are a bit weak, noisy crank. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Rockhopper, Rockhopper Comp, Trek 6700. | | Bike Setup: | Just as she came from the dealer... for now! Disc brakes to come, and a better set of pedals. Seat seems good for my rump at the moment, and no problems with the post slipping. | | Bottom Line: | Couldn't pass this one up for the price! Went to my LBS on their clearance day to pick up a Rockhopper for my wife, and probably a Rockhopper Comp for myself - got the bike for my wife, but was going to have to special-order my framesize Rockhopper Comp.... until I saw this beauty tucked away in the corner. The box was destroyed by melt from the blizzard in early '03, so it was heavily discounted. No damage to the bike at all though... I think all the employees wanted it to not sell that day so they could buy it after the sale, but it came home with me!
The handling was a bit lively at first, but I'm really starting to like it after a few rides. The geometry suits me almost perfectly (6', 220lb, Large frame) - feels very sure footed, especially when climbing or on slippery surfaces. Certainly a bike I will 'grow into' as a rider, but also one that makes it so easy to improve your skills.
I'd highly recommend this bike to virtually anyone. It's forgiving enough for a beginner, but up to the challenge of an expericened rider too. At the price I paid, I'm happy to spring for a few upgrades to make this into an even more awesome ride. Even at full price this Klein is good value to me, just for the frame quality alone. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Date Reviewed: June 9, 2003 | | Duration Product Used: | Tested or demo'ed only | | Strengths: | Square geometry, light weight, compact feel, beautiful paintjob (especially in the sun), smooth finish with the cables running through the top tube. Great frame to build on. | | Weaknesses: | Expensive to build on the great frame. Feels like an inexpensive bike (just my take). Paint was already chipping where the shift/rear-brake cables enter into the top tube near the headset. Though it is more on the race side, it coult benefit from a little more travel from the standard 60mm. I expected more. | | Similar Products Used: | Kona Cinder Cone, Gary Fisher Tassajara, Kona Kahuna Deluxe (Dual Susp. but similar price range). | | Bike Setup: | Kona Cinder Cone (stock) | | Bottom Line: | There wasn't anything wrong with this bike as far as quality/components, its just that it felt like a supercycle-usually when you hop on a $1700 (Can.) bike it feels like a few weeks of hard earned income-this didn't. I'm sure many will disagree with me and just love it, its just a matter of what feels right for you. The Cinder Cone was $600 (Can.) less but it feels more solid, more like a package, and just plain "feels more right". | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$875.00 | | Purchased At: | ebay | | Strengths: | Frame is strong, light, and responsive - first rate. It's tough as nails as I've put it through the paces (not always on purpose). I personally like the black asbury color - very cool. | | Weaknesses: | Component group was a little weak for the money - Shimano XT for most, avid sd3 brakes. The Duke Fork is pretty good - I wouldn't call it outstanding - but I like it better than the Skareb which is on the Stumpjumper. | | Similar Products Used: | Kona, Trek, and Specialized. | | Bike Setup: | I upgraded the wheels, tires and rear derailer. Went with XTR wheels and XTR rear derailer - tires: moto raptors. The upgrades make this a first class ride - I can go up and down anything. | | Bottom Line: | I love the bike. The frame is worth the extra money. If you can upgrade some of the components, this bike is tough to beat. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$899.00 | | Purchased At: | BIke Barn, last year's left over | | Strengths: | Great frame, great ride, with near perfect geometry. Duke forks are very compilant, have 180 psig of air. @ 6'4" & 200 lbs the XL size is perfect. Blue green paint really catches the light. So far the components are holding up well. Pedals like a dream; very responsive in spite of its weight.
Not all that lite,(XL) weighed in a 28 lbs on bike shop scale.
Good setup & serveice at the NW Houston Bike Barn.
| | Weaknesses: | Seat post keeps slipping down, painful seat, no eyelet screw holes to mount rear rack. Plan on installing a Thudbuster & a a love seat....turning 50, you know.
Bontrager seat has to go and the Bontrager crank appears a bit cheesy | | Similar Products Used: | Cannondale '93 M700 | | Bike Setup: | stock: Bontrager seat, post, Hubs & crank, supestock rims. Shimano XT derailer & Avid brakes.
| | Bottom Line: | Very solid frame and Duke fork, be interesting to see if it holds as well as the Cannondale. Incidently this is a great time of the year to buy a bike, if looking for bargin model left overs. At $899, couldn't pass this one up. Klein paint, welding and finish is first rate.
Kinda started out wanting another Cannondale, but the dealers were not interested in dealing and the paint/color schemes came off looking extemely ugly. Then I started reading excellent reviews on the '02 Klein Attitude received on this site. When I saw one in the flesh, couldn't get over the fit and finish.
Seinfeld has had a green Klein hanging in his appartment on his show, for ages, never ever seen him ride it. Guess it planted the seed.
Now if I can just keep people from hoisting it.... | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
