Favorite Trail:heil
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $600.00
Purchased At:Boulder Bikesmith
Strengths:REALLY strong. I have fallen on this bike a few times and i have yet to scratch or dent it. Its amazing.
Weaknesses:Its a bit heavy for my liking but thats what you get with a mountain bike for the most part.
Similar Products Used:Gaint XTC
Bike Setup:I have xt and xtr stuff on it. im light enough that i dont have to worry about the comon problem of bottoming out on the manitou fork.
Bottom Line:I love this bike. It really works well over all. Its got the strength to hold up on hardcore mountain biking trails, and acually agile enough to be able to trick around on it, like dirt jumping. I think im gonna keep this bike for a long time!

Bike Setup:2004 bomer marathon sl lx/xt group titec stem/seat post
Bottom Line:i will never ride anything but klein the only complant i have come across it is low specd for the price and i agree but rebutle with the fact that you will never find a mass produced frame that is this good so spend the extra cash to up grade.I have replaced almost every part except for the amazingly strong rolf rims but will never part with the frame. If you read this and love klein as much as i do feel free to e-mail me

Favorite Trail:Widberry Divide
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $1550.00
Purchased At:Paul's Bicycle Way of Life
Strengths:Great climbering, nibble handling, light, well balanced cross country bike
Weaknesses:The only major weaknesses I'd list (provided you buy the bike for its intended XC use) is the low bb hight, and the lack of rear tire clearance for muddy situations.
Similar Products Used:Fisher Suger, Specialized FSR, Rocky Mtn. Instinct, and a many hardtails
Bike Setup:I bought this bike for the great frame, and built up from there. Marzochi MXR, XT drivetrain, XT/517's, Avid SD7's, Raceface stem, post
Bottom Line:I was initially in the market for a new steel hardtail. But the advice from my friends about the benifits of full suspension was too much to ignore. I test rode many different suspension designs and decided that I really like the semi-active feel of bikes like the Klein, Suger, and Superlight. Of these, the Klein most impressed me with its amazing frame quality, and great geometry. On the trail the thing I am most happy about with this bike is its ability to climb. Coming from a light hardtail this is where I'd thought I would have to sacrifice, but the Klein climbs better than any bike I've ever ridden, on top of descending like crazy. So, in short, if you want a fast, light, nibble cross country bike for racing, or for those long days, this is definitatly a very good bike for your consideration.

Favorite Trail:Galbraith Mt.
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1964.00
Purchased At:Kulshan Cycles
Strengths:A stiff, light frame that climbs like a hardtail. Beautiful paint.
Weaknesses:Pricey. Stock components could be better in this price range.
Similar Products Used:My first full floater.
Bike Setup:Avid mechanical discs w/speed dial 7 levers, Marzocchi MX pro forks w/eta, Rhynolite wheels, Shimano Lx hollowtech cranks, Shimano Deore hubs and shifters,Hutchinson Alligator tires.
Bottom Line:This bike is an excellent cross country bike. It climbs like a hardtail with very little bob. It is very good on technical single track, ascending or descending. The bike likes to go where you point it. The steering demands that you pay attention, yet it is not "twitchy". The frame allows plenty of stand over height, which comes in handy for unexpected sudden stops. If you want to jump off cliffs and freeride like a maniac, this is not the bike for you, but if you want a great ride on a bike that feels like it's glued to the trail, buy this bike. I have ridden for 35 years, and this is the best bike I have ever owned.

Purchased At:ziggy's
Strengths:fast, comfortable, wicked frame, good climbs
good handling
Weaknesses:soft fork, paint chips easy
Similar Products Used:2000 norco xcs1
Bike Setup:raceface system stem
Bottom Line:manitou black comp forks need heavier springs.
the bontrager sport stem has a sticker on it saying "not intended for aggresive off-road use" (and it's heavy)
other than that the bike is a great ride
oh yeah

Favorite Trail:Murphy Trails
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $1620.00
Purchased At:Reynold Cycle / Chatham
Strengths:So far, turning agility, acceleration and braking.
Weaknesses:My Black fork is too soft, I weigh 160 lbs. and need to move up to a stiffer spring. I haven't yet but believe I can with no charge or much hassle.
Similar Products Used:Trek 90, Gary fisher +3, Giant NCR?
Bike Setup:Manitou Black fork, Cane Creek AD-5 shock, XT shifters, XT rear, LX front, Hayes hydraulic discs front and back, Bontrager wheels, seat, post, tires.
Bottom Line:So far I like the bike. It handles similar to my Trek 8000. It turns great and the bike fits me out of the box. The Black fork needs to be stiffened. I am still playing with the rear shock, I have the slowest rebound damping available and it still seems to fast. Cane Creek tells me I have the shock pumped up too high (140) psi. I am still learning as it's my first full suspension, but It bottoms occasionally at 140 psi. Cane Creek says lower the pressure and don't worry about the bottoming. I can change the volume of the shock to make it more progressive, but they say ride it bottoming for a while and see. I can't feel it bottom, I see the rubber O ring at the bottom of the travel after riding. What do you all think?

Favorite Trail:still searching
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $999.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:This bike moves! I have the '01 model and I think it is pretty much the same setup as the 02. It is quick, responsive, and better looking than half of my old girlfriends!
Weaknesses:Components are crap, but I can't complain, I got a good deal on it. It is the frame that is da bomb!
Similar Products Used:Sugars, Trek dualies...etc.
Bike Setup:Stock stuff: Manitou SX forx, Rolf Satellite wheels, Bontrager post, handlebars, crank
Upgrades: Serfa dd vado seat, Avid SD3 brakes, Bontrager Jones Tires
Upgrades by the end of the day: Thompson Lay Back post, Thompson 10deg/110 stem, Easton EA70 3deg handlebar
Bottom Line:This bike is phat! I love the ride. It is not as squishy as the Sugar and the Trek, and this bike is super responsive. It knows what I am doing before I do it. I like the short rear travel, and will probably upgrade to a Fox with lockout eventually. I am giving it 4 chilis for the value, only because I got it on sale. I would have given it less if I bought it for the retail 1900. Overall, I am giving it 5. I don't think I will ride anything other than a Klein for the rest of my life. I am hooked. This bike fits me better than a snug size jimmy hat. The only bad side is that I am going poor upgrading the stock components. This is an excellent bike if you can get it on sale. But be ready to upgrade like a madman. But again, customization isn't bad, I just wish we could do the same for girls.

Favorite Trail:porcupine rim, moab
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $1450.00
Purchased At:olympia cycle and ski
Strengths:This bike rips. It feels like a hardtail on ascents, and it flies downhill. It sucks up all the little bumps, and takes the edge off the big ones. It makes you feel like you can go over anything at any speed. Has great wheels, and geometry. Plus it looks wicked.
Weaknesses:the fork is a bit jumpy, and some of the components are on the heavy side, but it stood up to a full year of abuse without anything more than a tune-up.
Similar Products Used:none extensively.
Bike Setup:LX derailleurs, manitou sx fork, fox air rear shock, rolf satellite wheels, bontrager stem and seatpost etc.
Bottom Line:If you are an aggressive cross-country rider that doesn't want to break the bank, this is a great bike. If racing extensively and have more money the race, and pro, versions are lighter and better components overall.

Submitted by Ryan a Weekend Warrior from Winnipeg, Mb
Date Reviewed: November 26, 2001
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:Super fast and agile. Never a problem climbing or racing down the trail.
Weaknesses:To keep the weight down they use a funky design where the tubing is thinner in the milddle. I have picked up some dents along these tubes. The paint is easily chipped off as well. Throw that Manitou front fork in the bush if you weigh over 150lbs and get a fork that is smoother and has better tuning.
Similar Products Used:I had a 1999 Trek 8000 before this.
Bike Setup:I have upgraded almost everything on this bike.
-Pyslo Race fork 4"
-Hugi hubs with Mavic X 317 rims
-Avid disc brakes
-time pedels
-XT shifters and levers
-XT/LX derailers
Bottom Line:If your looking for a bike that is fast and agile with a great look then pick it up. Aside from my personal upgrades this bike has not done me wrong at any trailhead that I've rode up to.
