Date Reviewed: August 10, 2004
Favorite Trail:Captain Jacks - Colorado Springs, CO
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $1100.00
Purchased At:JensonUSA.com
Strengths:Light weight, great handling, price, performance, LX components, disc brakes, 4-bar linkage rear suspension, looks, resistance to petal induced bob, shock and fork performed very well, warranty. Other than the weak swing arm - I love the bike. It performs and handles bumps and jumps very well.
Weaknesses:Rear swing arm frame tube broke on left side near rear axel, HKS was very slow to warranty the part, I was without a bike for 3+ months. Apparently this is a weak part on the bike.
Similar Products Used:2001 Specialized FSR, 2004 Santa Cruz Blur, 2004 Yeti ASR 575, 2003 Balfa Belair
Bike Setup:as delivered + WTB Weirwolf tires, Hope Mini 6" disc brakes, Downhill style 40 mm stem
Bottom Line:You get what you pay for! The bike handles great. It climbs and decends very well! However, I thought I could get away with buying a Specialized knock-off and everything would be fine. (I couldn't part with $2000 for a Specialized Epic.) I guess I am harder on a bike than I thought or the swing arm was a bad design. Jenson USA wasn't very helpful with the Warranty claim. The guys at Mad Duck Adventure Sports stepped up and helped with the warranty stuff, even though I didn't buy it from them. In turn, I bought a new Yeti from Mad Duck Adventure Sports in Grapevine, TX! Those guys are better than great. They wrote the book in service after the sale. Caution though - they have really really nice toys at Mad Duck!! I couldn't help my self and walked out with a killer new Yeti 575. So there was a silver lining to this story after all. ...... Anyone want to buy a KHS with a new swing arm?
