$400.00 | | Purchased At: | ebay | | Strengths: | burly design, cool looking bike over all. love hucking it off stuff. | | Weaknesses: | paint sucks big time, linkage bolts suck even worse. broke the stock ones off, khs didnt have extra linkage so i had a machine shop custom make one on a cnc. rear end has some side to side sway, not exactly the beefiest design. linkage bolts always coming loose, even with locktite. | | Similar Products Used: | first downhill/free ride bike before old school gt backwoods hardtail and a k2 brass monkey dirt jumper. | | Bike Setup: | manitou kingpin, fox dhx 5.0, race face prodigy dh, wtb dual duty wheel, avid bb7 front, avid original bb disc in back, race face handle bar, odi rogue lock ons, sette stem and azonic love seat. xt derailers front and back. and rollin with kenda kinetics, stick-ees. | | Bottom Line: | after i got new linkage bolts, and the new linkage it turned out to be a almost nice bike. put 170 mm fork on and day later blew out the fox vanilla r. put on fox dhx 5.0 and had a smile ever since. wish it had a longer stroke shock in back and a simpler linkage. parts for it are almost non exsistance. stupid bolts are always coming loose. its a pita to take care off. tons of maintanence. but i love it. after i put on the 7 inch travel fork up front it rides nice. a good beginner bike for downhill/free ride. if u use it for cross country i wanna shake your hand cause it takes balls and lots of muscle to do that on this bike.
the bottom line its a great bike for a beginner to learn the ropes on. not realy forgiving, likes to stick a line and stay there at speed, jumps well. jumps when you dont want it too but all in all its a good bike. only flaw i see on bike is the swing arm and the linkage. so im giving it three chilis do to the linkage, the pain and suffering ive had to endure on this damn bike. cncing parts takes forever and khs customer service isnt what i would call customer friendly and the lousy quality in hardware. if u get one of these bikes do your self a favor, replace all the bolts u can with good ones, and the shock is stock junk. get a dhx 5.0 | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Its a real good design, smooth rear end thru out all its travel. Now if u upgrade some things, like crank, bb drive train this bike can be very strong and take what u can throw at it. I been riding KHS for a few years now and be4 this bike, I had an 05 am1000. got it when it first came out and them I got this frame. ya there is a weight difference, but the fetish can take a lot more lol. Replace the chainguide, it is terrible. I'm riding hayes 8" on my bike, and they are fine. Just go all out and replace the entire propulsion system, and you'll have yourself a great bike! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I'm 6'2" and 240lbs and have hucked this bike off of 12' - 15'drops repeatedly with absolutely no signs of frame fatigue or lateral flex. The stock components are very good - Hayes HFX9, Romic, TruVativ, Marzocchi - at an affordable price. $420.00 | | Purchased At: | betterbikes.com | | Strengths: | The 2003 frame takes everything I can dish out, My previouse bike was holding me back, now I am holding this bike back. The new beefed up linkage really does reduce pedal bob as compared to the 2002 and earlier models. My riding buddy has a Bullit with a 5th element, and my fetish pedals very similar. What probaly helps the pedaling is that I have a fox vanilla R with a 700lbs spring, keeping the the back end stiff but plush enough for big hits. The elevated chain stay and pivots also keep the rear wheel glued to the ground as you pedal.( pivot and chain stay above drive train keep shock extended when pedaling). The frame seems very strong and goes where ever you point it, and inspires confidence. The simplicity of the old english style graphics make the bike nice to look at. The geometry is also a plus, I am 6'2" and I can set up the 18" large frame to fit me as well as my former XL frame freeride bike. The interupted seat tube does not interfear with the rear suspension when you drop the seat for bombing DH. The distace from the end of the seatpost and the shock stays relatively unchanged when suspension is compressed. Jumping/Drops- this bike does not flinch even on flat landings. I can't commnet on huge drop because I am doing only 6-7 foot drops and small gap jumps Technical singal track- this bike eats it up with some lateral flex on tigh fast turns that you have to really dig low on. Climing- don't reccomend trybg to clime cardiac mountains, but to enjoy the sweet decents the bike will make getting to the top a little better that some other DH rigs that are not equiped with stable platform tech. | | Weaknesses: | Paint- Rubs off easily with minor cable rub. There is still some lateral flex in the rear end. This is due to the fact thatthe rear is only a single tube(beefy)swingarm. The way to reduce this is to upgrade to a strong rear wheel and maintain the spoke tension high. Weight- I don't have a problem with it but the bike is heavy, my rig is close to 40+.
| | Similar Products Used: | KHS fetish 2002, KHS FR1500, GT I-Drive 4.0, Santa Cruz Bullit | | Bike Setup: | Xt rear deraillure and hubs, hayes 6-inch disc, 2002 JrT,3Tstiffie stem 50 mm, Salsa Motoace riser bar, son of strongarm cranks with 2 rings and blackspire super god ring guard. Sun Rhyno lite XL rims with 14 g spokes titec amore saddle ODI lock grips and sram pip shifters. | | Bottom Line: | This bike rips for recreational DH, freeriding and some trail riding. I love it because it handels whatever I can throw at it. IF you are pushing 15 foot drops then i would say look elsewhere, but for pushing you limits as a medium/big hit freerider/DHer this bike will leave a smile on your face that will last for days | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$2000.00 | | Strengths: | strong, handles well, soaks up anything and takes big drops with ease. Pedal bob pretty good for a DH bike of this type, but who really wants to pedal anyhow. DNM front fork works nicely as well as romic on the rear. I've been riding it for 6 months now and have even had to do some 5 mile climbs (busted shuttle) and it wasn't a problem. Would have been nice to sit down, but it wasn't a problem. | | Weaknesses: | stock chain guide was clunky. replaced with an MRP. Some models came with the DMN shock. Trash it and get a romic or a better. | | Similar Products Used: | Bullit, M1 | | Bike Setup: | DNM F fork, Romic shock, LX, mrp, hayes comps, yadda yadda. | | Bottom Line: | Good bike, handles just about anything you throw at it. cockpit is somewhat short but corners well because of that. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

The Romic shock helps out giving a nice progressive feel. KHS has upped the travel to 7" rather than 6". Much improved, but not great. | | Weaknesses: | There is a lot of lateral flex. When the bike is stationary and you lift on the seat, it seems as if something is loose. It seems as if a bolt is loose, but all are tight. The stock bolts that hold together the bike are S$%t, replace them ones that don't break and get stuck. | | Similar Products Used: | Not sure | | Bike Setup: | § 2003 KHS Fetish 16in. § Romic D Shock § 2002 Shiver w/heavy spring (Green) § Intense Mag 30’s f/r § Hadley Hub (front) § Shimano XT hub (rear) § Race Face North Shore DH Crank arms 165mm § Race Face Chainring 36t § Easton Cully Signature Platform Pedals § Shimano XT rear derailleur § Shimano XT cassette § MRP Chainguide § Tioga Factory DH tires 26x2.35 f/r § Hayes Purple Hayes Disc Brakes w/8in rotors f/r § Azonic Lounge Seat § Azonic Shorty Stem 50mm w/10 degree rise § Kore Freeride Bars 2.0 in. drop § Truvativ Bottom Bracket § Chris King Threadless Headset Nothing on the bike is stock, it was a custom build. | | Bottom Line: | I wanted to get into freeriding last fall and my Trek bruiser II was not enough. I bought this bike because it was fairly inexpensive and I wanted a top of the line parts. I am now ready to sell the frame and get a Banshee Scream. If you are wanting to get into freeriding or DH this might be the ride for you. I have taken this bike off large drops (6+ feet) and it handles like it should.
