I stand corrected on my first review----the "3-4 foot drops" were actually only 1 to 1.5 ft. drops when measured. So I do not know how it handles bigger drops nor would I do any or recommend 3 or 4 ft. drops on this bike. Anyways, I cracked the chainstay all the way through today and am waiting to hear from KHS to have that replaced. I was just cross country riding when it happened ( as cross-country riding is all I do). It shouldn't be a big problem for them to replace the rear chainstay with my warranty but I'll keep an update. I know they have great customer service. However, I have to lower the rating slightly since the chainstay broke and I had to walk a few miles on a beautiful day. The frame took the abuse, but the fork leaks air now that it's got the scrape. Replaced the seals, but it still leaks after a hard ride. Anyway, I was riding the bike the other day (late August) and part of the seat tube and seat clamp snapped off!!! I am in the process of sending my bike back to KHS- since I've only had the bike for 8 months, it should be under warranty. Lesson to take away from this story: Keep your seat post down past the limit screw that is in the seat tube, so that the post is at least just poking out the bottom- be sure to not put it too far down though, since big drops bring the bottom of the seat tube close to the rear shock. Anyway, besides this ridiculous incident, the bike has been a dear dear friend, and I hope that KHS will come through and give me another one, since bikes should be able to handle being ridden.
Buy this bike if you're a beginner/intermediate rider on a budget looking for a solid full suspension bike- Upgrade to disc brakes- you already have the hubs!!!
Don't buy this bike if you're looking for bob-less riding, or nice componentry... or if you have a million dollars- get the Tomac Eli, she's like a sweet, sweet stallion that loves to be ridden into the sunset. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Rode 40 miles with 3000ft ascend/descend and this bike rocks. I was a combo of Single track and fire raods.

W/ my old parts off my hardtail Schwinn, its actually lighter than the 01 FXT Comp that I bought my wife last year. The frame is stiff w/ no detectable flex in the rear. Little bobbing detected on climbs in the mid chainring but not so noticeable in the small one. The stock RS Deluxe rear shock works well. The damping knob is sensative. Compared to my buddy's $1800 Specialized, this frame is a better buy. The geometries are similar, small difference in the rear pivot point above the dropout, but handles exactly the same. I picked the Rage for a couple of reasons, namely, better specs (disc brake ready hubs), color, frame style, but most importantly, I just liked it better than the Jamis. I haven't really torture tested it yet, but it's handled two foot drops with out breaking a sweat. The frame is STRONG, no bob on climbs, and the flat black paint looks wicked! | | Weaknesses: | The Kore stem would loosen up after about a half mile or so. Some locktite, and a torque wrench fixed it. I have since bought a Kore Elite stem to replace the stock stem. Hardly a dealbreaker. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Rockhopper (12 yrs old, no suspension - killer old bike), Giant NRS3, Jamis Dakar Sport | | Bike Setup: | Stock, but have added a Specialized computer to monitor my training, and will add the new Kore stem this weekend. Certainly you could spend a grand on a hartail that is better spec'd, but if your funds are limited and you want a dually then look no further. The coil shock worked like a charm and you don't need a pump to adjust it! I bombed this bike down Mt. Wilson, outside of LA, and I was more than pleased with its handling and performance. The TruVativ crank, with its steel rings, bent quickly when it met a rock, but that's an easily solved problem when you can upgrade to aluminum rings. KHS is underrated, to say the least, but they keep producing quality bicycles that are well spec'd year in and year out. Deore shifters, and components, Alu. frame, Marz. air fork, rock shox spring rear. | | Bottom Line: | The bike was a pretty sweet ride. It climbed well and devoured the downhills. Much lighter than it first looked.
The bad part was this: In the seat tube, there's a bolt put in to limit the seat post's downward adjustment to keep it from hitting the rear shock on full articulation. Throw this away. Just pay attention to what you are doing. Because of this, my bike shop had to cut the seat stem small...neither of us realized that this left very little of the stem in the tube when the seat was at a comfortable uphill position...my weight (i'm about 150) caused the stem to shear through the frame. It's been sent back and is being replaced by KHS. Great customer care. On the maiden voyage...Just after I had the thing dialed in too...
Oh yah..the other bad part was my Lizard Skin wouldnt fit on the chain stay without zip ties.
People who should look into this: starving college kids(me), those holding down work at min. wage jobs, those just starting to *really* get into biking who want a great mid-level bike.
People who should look else where: People with more money than brains, people who use their bike to commute and need to lock it up, people who can afford all out top of the line stuff, roadies.
5 chilis for it's fantastic value.

I need to break in the EXR bomber fork. Right now it is not too supple over the little stuff. The fork really shines though at speed on stutter bumps. The rear suspension is stout with no flex. It did get squeaky at the upper shock mount. I will see about the longevity bushings, would not mind cartridge bearings instead. The rear suspension hugs the terrain, especially while climbing.
