Bottom Line:
Great bicycle. I use it mostly for city commuting so I clock a lot of Kilometer's onto it. (Sometimes 60k round trip) Have been one a few trails with it. Handled it all great. I've only taken it in to the shop once for my "Complimentary" adjustment and have had almost no trouble with it. (Except pedals) I do however keep the chain, tension wheel, and shocks well lubed, and have adjusted the rear derail cable tension a couple times. (Manditory maintenance on any bike!) I try to beat the crap out of it on a daily basis by jumping down small staircases, ramping off of crosswalks, anb bunnyhopping up curbs, over logs, etc. The bike has handled really well. The pedals however died a very dramatic and sudden death. Replace the cheap plastic ones and get good aluminium ones. All in all: surprisingly good bicycle for the low cost. Cheapest bike I've had and I believe the best. Perfect for the commuting/ocasional mountain bicycle enthusiast.

Has a very good frame design and not over built. wonderful comfort when jumping even thought it is not made for jumping. hah. just a wonderful bike to ride

the terrible fork, shifting problems, crank and bottom bracket problems.

Bottom Line:
it is a very nice bike overall, but the frame was not built right so i am glad that i didnt go mountain biking. fair beginner bike, but have been riding for years. not good for everyday jumping but it can take a beating. only recommended for beginner riders of cross country racing

i don't like the chair, heavy pedals, crankshaft integrity problems, rear derailleur needs a lot of adjustment.

I been using my Jamis 2007 for a month since I had it bought last March 5, 2007. It's a great value and very affordable. I love this bike. I checked at the Jamis website and other website the bike cost $389.00 - $399, but I had it for $282 only. I really love this bike since this would be my first bike that i bought as my early birthday gift. It give me complete satisfaction when people admire the set-up of my bike. It handles great when I ride on a downhill. But I'm so sad when damned somebody accidentally hit my bike, now it has a scratched.

Durable frame. Great Value, even if purchased at retail. Cushy seat.
Weaknesses:
As mentioned in the other reviews, "ghost shifting", squeaky forks. I'm not sure how other bikes are, but the paint has been chipping quite a bit in the short amount of time I've had it.

Bottom Line:
This has been a great entry-level bike. I've crashed it a few times at low speeds and haven't anything foul up too bad.
Started "ghost shifting" after my first couple rides but a tightening of one of the gears on my derailleur fixed that. Any shifting issues later on were solved with chain lube.
I've been very careful with this bike, detailing it after every ride etc., and its a shame that the paint chips off here and there.
I would have upgraded more on this bike, but the one I have is a little too small for me so I will have to get a whole new bike when I decided to upgrade.
I wouldn't use this for downhill or free-riding. If you can get one for $300 or less, I would recommend it.

Well selected balance of low-middle level components and good handling make this bike a real bargin.
Weaknesses:
Haven't had it long enough [5 weeks] to find any weaknesses, hopefully that is a good sign.

Prior my new Jamis C.C. 1000 I owned a "1981" Bianchi Grizzly for the past 25 years. Obviously it was quite a durable bike but what pleasant experience to be riding a new bike with the latest technology. Love those trigger shifters!

Bottom Line:
I was prepared to pay much more [$800+/-] for a new mountain bike but fortunately I went to a shop with an honest and experienced cycle tech/rider and when he learned my primary use for this bike was to be as a running cross training tool on various surfaces, not extreme trail riding, he convinced me that this model would completey fill the bill and more. The stock 1.95X26 tires are very "road friendly" and serve well for my varied surface riding. A typical bike workout for me is 10 to 20 miles in a combination of roads, bike paths and relatively easy negotiated trails. Not a lot but at age 65, let's say there are "some" limitations.

Bottom Line:
I have both of my bikes at work and often let a co-worker use the jamis or the fuji. I can more easily smoke anyone on the fuji as its an old school bike and was in its day a mid level xc bike. But I am looking at jamis higher end models now. Because I am impressed with the quality and detail they put into their bikes. The fuji looks like its 2 or 3 years old as it sat for many years in storage. I don't know why I would step up to a durango or dakota jamis. but i think about it alot, its fun to ride better i guess.

Strengths:
Rugged bike for the money. Have over 500 miles on it in six months with minimal shop maintenance.
Weaknesses:
Crank set fell apart after three weeks but dealer replaced with an upgrade. Some ghost-shifting but the tech has fixed it all three times for free.

Strengths:
Decent brakes, mid level components, comprable to other mfg bikes priced 50-100 more. Frame seems plenty strong for XC.
Weaknesses:
fork isnt great, but ok for entry level. This seems to be where the $ is saved most. Derailer isnt best when shifting under load (going up hills)
Bottom Line:
I liked the bike, it was one of a few that I narrowed it down too. Great finish, I have the flat black from 2004. Quality components for entry level, dont need to upgrade to have fun, but if you do, the frame is good enough that you can build a quality bike over time without worry about it.
It gets 5 chilis because as far as value go's, it was the best I found

lightweight, cheap, and brand name equipment. handles great. strong brakes, easy to upgrade, great looks. i have the black one, and i noticed that it looks like the police bikes over here.

crankshaft integrety problems, caused loose cranks, fixed after second occurance by putting a larger diameter crank in. rear derailure needs alot of adjustment. forks are noisy if not kept lubricated. some chassis flex
