Titec berserkr dh seat, flat pedals. Rest is stock. | | Bottom Line: | The best all-around trail bike available. Especially if your bud owns a bike shop and offers you employee price. The wheels are a joke, especially for a 210 pound rider. They were replaced before I put the thing together. Great frame, better brakes and fork. 9spd still isn't all it's cracked up to be, good thing some 8spd stuff is still around. Xvert is an awesome fork. Jamis is not very common, dare to be different. | | Weaknesses: | UST wheelset is a pain in the ASS. Why Jamis would put this gucci wheelset on a hardtail freeride/trail bike is beyond me. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized FSR, Trek 930, Cannondale Raven, Jamis Dakar, Klien Pulse. | | Bike Setup: | BONE STOCK except for the pedals (SPD). No need to upgrade this bike except for XTR rear cassette. | | Bottom Line: | I searched long and hard for a new ride with the key being hard/long trail riding and periodic freeriding on moderate stunts and stuff. I initially searched the full suspension realm but nothing really seemed worth the extra weight and money. This bike fits the bill perfectly. Full suspension is overated, this bike will show you why. It eats up the technical stuff like nobodys business. 4 foot drops, no problem, moto x jumps - no problem. The bike has bigger balls than I do and I have yet to find it's limit. The slack angles in the tubes coupled with the BAF (big ass fork) make shortwork of most typical freeriding scenarios. I doubt this frame (or me) can keep up on serious Shore type stuff but it holds it's own on your typical log droppin, rock jumpin, wood riding trails around here. The cushy RockShox seat post helps on those long slogs up fireroads. The SDG saddle has something to be desired but is tolerable. The lego looking Syntace handlebar/stem combo is weird looking but it works. Hayes brakes, perfect. The only real complaint I have is the UST wheelset. This bike is the hardest core hard tail Jamis sells but it has these cheesy x-country inspired rims on it. UST tire selection is very limited and I doubt they will ever get to the point where conventional tires are now. The one good thing is that Mavic hubs and rims are solid and regular tires/tubes fit on these rims anyway. Overall this is by far the best hardtail trail bike you will ever find. | | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |
