Date Reviewed: August 20, 2002
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $650.00
Purchased At:Bicycle Blowout
Strengths:This bike handles extreamly well for a hard tail
Weaknesses:weight. Too damn heavy. Judy TT is no good.
Similar Products Used:Mongoose IBOC comp, StumpJumper
Bike Setup:Stock
Bottom Line:I bought this bike on a whim for a trip up to Wyoming not expecting much considering the price. Once I got it on the trail, I was pleasently surprised. It handled rocks and bolders well and was very fast. It was kind of loud but performed great! Great bike for the price. If your green to mtbing, buy it and I guarentee it will out perform you.

Favorite Trail:Middlesex Fells
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $740.00
Purchased At:Paramount Cycles
Strengths:Heavy duty frame, all components are mid-pack, reliable, and work well together. Heavy duty wheelset (I'm a 225lber and the hold up) Inspires confidence at speed, upgradeable
Weaknesses:Nothing major.....but....Formula Activa mech disks require WAY too much adjusting. (wish they were Avid Mech disks) I wish the peddles were 2x sided (they are DH platform w/ 1-sided entry, but they are good for those learning to use clipless (like I was initially
Similar Products Used:Specialized StumpJumper
Bike Setup:Upgraded to Judy SL 100mm travel fork, everthing else is stock
Bottom Line:Solid bang for buck, reminds me of the argument that a Chevy Camaro has always been the best $/Performance bargain out there. I recommend for the heavier riders out there. Flyweights will spend too much time whining about the weight (mine weighs in at a sturdy 27lbs). Jamis is a great stealth brand. Check out the 2002 models! I'm drooling over the Dakar Comp as my next trade in!

Date Reviewed: August 24, 2001
Favorite Trail:Markham Park
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $700.00
Purchased At:Downtown Bicycles
Strengths:Great Componets, solid light frame, The most useful pedals I've ever seen!!!!
Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:Rockhopper
Bike Setup:As per my salesperson at Downtown Bicycles. By the way the job they did was perfect
Bottom Line:Killer hard tail this thing does it all I'm a heavy rider 247lbs and this thing can take all I can dish out I'll look into upgrade to air shock but the Judy as is does a nice job. In this price range full suspenion bikes for a heavy rider are just not the way to go buy a killer hardtail with good componets and let it rip!!!!!

Submitted by Austin Golankiewicz a Cross Country Rider from Brewster, NY, USA
Date Reviewed: August 2, 2001
Favorite Trail:Nichols
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $750.00
Purchased At:Bodies In Motion
Strengths:Rock Shox Judy(upgradable to air cartridges), matching drivetrain, no mixing and matching parts, lightweight, disk brakes, 9 speed, Disk specific wheels.
Weaknesses:So far, none.
Similar Products Used:Just came off Specialized Rockhopper...also Iron Horse Marauder, Trek 8500
Bike Setup:All Stock
Bottom Line:This bike does it all. It climbs really well, very light. Downhills even better. Bike doesnt bounce or jump around when your ripping down the trail. It handles really well at high speeds. The disk brakes are very nice because they wont clog up in mud like cantilevers or V brakes. Nothing needs to be upgraded (maybe the Judy to the air cartridge if you want to go nuts) Very sexy bike. You really get your bang for your buck.
