Favorite Trail:Anything in Moab.Durango is awesome too.
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $2700.00
Strengths:(I have the 2001 model)
No other bike even comes CLOSE in its price range.Really.For 2700 big ones, you get ALL XTR drivetrain/brakes/crank(no XT/XTR),Crossmax UST wheels w/Hutchy Pythons,a light and great-performing Mars Super fork, and best of all a deliciously smooth Reynolds 858 STEEL frame. Not a SINGLE upgrade needed here--23 pounds out of the box.It rides smoother than any aluminum HT,outclimbs any fully, and handles like a megabuck custom steel or titanium ride(a friend of mine thought it rode better than his $4000 MOOTS!!).Weaknesses DO NOT EXIST--only in other bikes. To all of you poor fools who bought overpriced "top-of-the-line" Special'Eds,Treks,Schwinns,Konas etc,I pity you.You probably have no idea what a really good bike is.The Dragon is IT.
Weaknesses:Okay,okay..there is ONE tiny, insignificant weakness:the tubeless rims bleed a little air.Just check tire psi every now and then.
Jamis dealers are hard to come by.I got lucky(my local dealer is within 20 miles of Denver)but others may have to search a bit.
Similar Products Used:Old Trek 420 Singletrack,Santa Cruz Heckler
Bike Setup:BONE-STOCK,thank you very much--Mars Super fork,Crossmax wheels,Answer stem/bar,Thompson post,all-XTR etc.
Bottom Line:Jamis puts its dollars not toward flashy advertising or stupid parts spec(XTR rear der. on a $1000 bike),but instead toward making the finest bike possible for the $2700 you lay on the table. The Dragon reflects that to a "t."Every part on the Dragon is high-end--nothing is skimped on.Nothing.It is the perfect combo of old-school(Reynolds steel frame, traditional XC race geometry)and new-school(air fork, tubeless technology),blended into one awesome bike. The tubeless tires eliminate all pinch flats(I can run as low as 33 psi--cool huh?)and also improve the ride of this already smooth, resilient steel frame.Geometry? You wanna talk geometry? This bike handles like no other hardtail. It will embarass your typical suspects(i.e big-company bikes)without even trying. My friend, the proud owner of a Moots YBB costing 4 grand, wishes he could have my bike--that alone says it all. This is the perfect XC steed.Use it in expert-level races or just screw around on local trails--it excels at both.My beloved Heckler has been collecting dust!

If you aren't already swayed,go on,go ahead and buy your overpriced big-corp cookie-cutter.BUT if you're a smart XC rider, not willing to follow the herd, have $2700 burning a hole in your wallet and a Jamis dealer near you,and love Reynolds steel(who doesn't?),go get the Dragon baby!It would get 10+ chilies from me if I had my way!

Date Reviewed: March 7, 2001
Favorite Trail:Sierra of Guanajuato
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1950.00
Purchased At:Jamis Dealer (axion Bike)
Strengths:Very light, nice color, easy to ride, wheels cross Max are cool, the quality of the Bike vs price is real good.
Weaknesses:For these price I think they have to put a seat quick release, very dificult to find a jamis Dealer, The Hutchinson Phyton tire came whit a defect and nobody give me a warrant.
Similar Products Used:Norco TNT
Bike Setup:Sram 9.0 sl, Breaks Avid M. Cross Max wheels,Manitou Mars CL
Bottom Line:I think is a very good hard tail, here in Mexico is not popular like Specialized, Treck, Giant, Cannondale, here the MTB is growing Up very fast I hope Jamis came most popular because I recomend Jamis.
