Date Reviewed: August 10, 2006
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $3000.00
Purchased At:Scottsdale,Arizona
Strengths:Built for the long haul Stilllllllllllllllllllllllllll Goin
Weaknesses:NONE
Similar Products Used:KHS Duraliner
Bike Setup:manitou X vert shock,Thompson seatpost,selle Italia Flite saddle,"XT" brakes,XT 8speed rapid fire thumbshifter,XT f&r derailers,XT crank set W/rare 177.5 crank arms, XT gears in the rear, XT all over the place,salsa,cane creek head set,LX F&R hubs,mavic 521 Rear probuilt rims,mavic 512 Front probuilt rims both with swiss DT 15 14 15 spokes,clipless peds,carbonfiber handlebars,Am I missing anything??????? Hmmmmmm NOPE.
Bottom Line:I built this bike for the long haul,Its built to last and it will. I love this bike!!! sure there are more expensive, lighter, and faster BUT LET ME TELL YOU WHAT I will not trade this bike or sell it even for a date with angelina jolie (Wellllll ok but it better be for a week at least) this bike will climb, crawl, fly,or just ride for the hell of it. maint is nada for the most part. The Jamis Dragon is in my book one of the best built out there. ANNNNND not many of them are seen on the streets so if anybody but me is riding it THEN ITS STOLEN I went and bought a specialized "WEDLOCK" $120 to make sure it stays put when I want it to.
Thank you JAMIS for making such a GREAT bike!!!!
sorry also jamis cause it will be a long time before I will have to buy another one.

Favorite Trail:Tahoe Rim Trail
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $2400.00
Purchased At:Truly Spokin
Strengths:Ready to ride hard out of the box. Aggresive climber, accelerates like a rocket out of the turns. Great price for the components, You would be lucky to build from scratch for the same price, and that's before you buy the frame! Smooth and confident ride of steel. Great balance. Incredible customer service from the store I bought it at!
Weaknesses:Front tire gets soft after 2 days. Back tire has not lost a single PSI since I bought it. I still am not sold on a 9 speed rear cog, only use 6 on a hard ride!
Similar Products Used:Otis Guy, Cannondale F1000/Lefty, Specialized FSR, Stumpjumper, Jamis Diablo, Litespeed Pisgah/Unicoi/Owl Hollow
Bike Setup:Factory spec'd, XTR groupo, Mavic Cross Max Rims, Hutchinson Python Tyres, Atac Pedals, etc.
Bottom Line:I waited almost 6 years to buy this bike, can't believe I didn't just buy it back then!@*&$!!. Rented/borrowed many bikes over the years, all over the world. I kept coming back to wanting this bike! Even after catching a 2 inch diameter stick between my wheel and rear derailer on a teeth chipper of a downhill at Oak Mountain, the bike continued to ride great! Took a while (and an embarassing tumble) to get used the bike's tendency to oversteer. I find some of the old hills that used to make me wince (both up and down) seem tame now. If I raced, this bike would smash my old PR's on any trail I've ridden. Anyone looking for a quality hardtail that they can trust and can ride hard and fast, look at the Dragon. It won't disappoint ya.

Favorite Trail:The father from the city the better.
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $2600.00
Purchased At:Sids bike shop. 34th street N.Y.C.
Strengths:The steel frame with the tubeless tires is a dream. My ass is still thanking my brain for buying this bike.Light 23 lbs. Great paintjob!I tossed the koski and copped a san marco.I do 230 miles a week on this bike!,no problem.Protect your chainstay!!!!
Weaknesses:For what I do the geometry is a bit aggressive,a seatpost with a set back would be nice, the koski with the thompson seat post doesnt allow the seat to move back over the rear wheel.I'm gonna toss the handlebar for a carbonfiber bar with a rise.
Similar Products Used:Raleigh M80?har har har sorry, not close at all!!One bike is $500 the other $2600
Bike Setup:17"
Bottom Line:The bottom line is this bike is a keeper!I use this bike for the street,I have inch and a half semi-slicks,I do light trail riding. As soon as I get my road bike I'm putting the pythons back on.I'm planning on purchasing a Dakota xc frame and build my own bike.I love this bike!

Submitted by Shane Kinkennon a Racer from Arlington, VA, USA
Date Reviewed: April 17, 2002
Favorite Trail:Shafer Farms, Seneca Creek State Park
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $2450.00
Purchased At:City Bikes, Wash, DC
Strengths:Amazing vibration damping. Light. CrossMax and tubeless Huthinson Pythons stick to anything (except nasty mud). Roots, rocky ascents, switchbacks. Nothing rattles it.
Similar Products Used:Tested full-sus race bikes -- Sugar, Fuel, Scalpel, Adept. Also looked at prestige brand steel hardtails (Seven, IF). But another 853 frame at this price would only have netted me XT, no tubeless wheels, no ceramic braking surfaces. At the end of the day, the low-maintenance, high-value-for-dollar Dragon was the way to go.
Bike Setup:As it rolled off factory floor -- full XTR, Mavic CrossMax with Python tubeless, Thompson Elite stem, post. Reynolds 853 steel frame. Did swith out the 110 stem that came with it for a 120.
Bottom Line:Great bike. Forgiving frame, wheel, tire setup. Stiff as a board on tough climbs. Stable and smooth on the descent. Light as hell. My first top-of-the-line race bike. It's been ridden 4 hard rides now, and it's already dramatically improving my descending and cornering. It just inspires lots of confidence, and it's fast. By the way, the red on the bike is MUCH hotter than in the pics on the Jamis site and in the brochure.

Favorite Trail:Flat Creek
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Purchased At:Buck's Bikes
Strengths:Incredible bike--handling, climbing, descending, you name it.
Weaknesses:None that I can find.
Similar Products Used:2 Schwinn Homegrowns
Bike Setup:Built mine: XTR rear der, XT front, XTR brakes, levers, shifters, Sid fork w/Englund air cartridges, XT crankset, Sun Ringle RPM wheels, Monkeylite handlebar, Thompson seatpost and stem
Bottom Line:This bike is incredible. It's my first steel frame and I'm very impressed with not only the material, but with the way it handles. I've NEVER ridden a bike that is this responsive without being the least bit squirrely. Very quick through singletrack. This is such a well-balanced bike that it just sticks to the trail--no accidental washouts on tight switchbacks, climbs like a demon. You could not convince me that there is a hardtail out there that climbs better than this bike. (I've ridden it up loose, rocky climbs w/ledges and the handling is flawless) Not to mention that you can turn around and go right back down the drops with no problem--still very stable. The most fun you can have on a hardtail. It's pricey, but Jamis gives you every penny's worth in this bike--I built mine-but it comes stock w/FULL XTR, CrossMax Tubeless and Hutchison Python tires, Thompson Seat post and stem, Answer hyperlite handlebar.
