Favorite Trail:royal summit
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $400.00
Purchased At:garage sale
Strengths:solid frame, rear arm shims broken replaced with bronze custom bushing, replace stem-1 bolt is not enough!
Weaknesses:havent found anything seriously wrong, rear arm shims broken replaced with bronze custom bushing, replace stem-1 bolt is not enough!
Similar Products Used:Diamondback Coil EX
Bike Setup:Pushed Fox shock, Aheadset, Hayes mech. Shimano hubs w/DTswiss5.1d wheels, XT shifters and pods, raceface crankset
Bottom Line:Rides well for a lower end bike, repairs easily, handles well in tight turns and takes 3-5 ft drops decent. Replace the WTB wheelset and change the shock to a Fox Float or something decent for a crisp ride(even a big guy like me at 240 cant complain much.

Favorite Trail:Anything at Hartmann Rocks, Gunnison, CO
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $500.00
Purchased At:Shop Bankruptcy Sale
Strengths:Value...especially since I paid a very unconventional price. Bike is responsive and handles well. Frame is well made and worthy of upgrades to lighten it. The Deore stuff performs crisply and exactly like XT albeit heavier.
Weaknesses:Heavy for any price, ditto everyone elses comments on the rear shock. Mine hasn't blown, but I always have to watch it carefully
Similar Products Used:Several Fisher full-sprung CC bikes
Bike Setup:Stock
Bottom Line:Nice ride for a weekend warrior. Too heavy for really long hauls at altitude. Not a racer, but lots 'o fun.

Date Reviewed: July 17, 2004
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $999.00
Purchased At:Sportcheck
Strengths:Cheap, what you get for the price
Weaknesses:could have a firmer suspention
Similar Products Used:n/a
Bike Setup:stock, vp platform pedels
Bottom Line:This was my first real bike, and I must say I am happy. it does not the best in any one catagorey, but it does it all well. It goes up and down hill with athoraty and will not leav you hufing and puffing like my new giant atx will. The rear air shock is not my cup of tea, but it will still take a 3ft drop (under my 190 lbs.) just fine. I must all and all for the money you can not beat it.

Favorite Trail:All of them
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $978.00
Purchased At:Sportchek (Sale from 2199.00)
Strengths:Just bought the bike today, and Im pretty happy about, heard lots of good things about the 'sinister',great value. Decent Manitou fork and Cane Creek shock,Hayes Brakes and Shimano Deore derailleurs.
Weaknesses:I've heard a lot about the rear shock loosing air quickly,I'll probably find that out pretty soon.As of now no weaknesses that where visible.
Similar Products Used:Most entry level full suspension bikes.
Bike Setup:Shimano Deore - front and back derailleur,Hayes HMX-1 disc brakes,Manitou Axel Comp fork,Cane Creek Ad-5 shock,Maxxis tires, everything that came standard with bike.
Bottom Line:Im still a beginner and I feel this bike will serve me very well.Down here in Canada it is hard to find such a bike for such a low price,it seems that most good bikes start at 2000$ and up.With a great discount, this bike is a great steal, and really worth the money. If too basic, you can always throw in a larger fork with more travel and change the rear shock,or change the frame and keep everything else the same.Overall great bike, equipped with great gear at an awesome value(2199.00$Can down to 977$Can including taxes).Recommend it for people on a lower budget or just starting out in this great sport.Cheers'

Favorite Trail:still looking
Duration Product Used:Tested or demo'ed only
Purchased At:sport chek
Strengths:Suspension felt plush, maybe too much. Couldn't tell much more from a parking lot demo.
Weaknesses:The AD-5 rear shock blue a seal when I hopped off the curb. I think if you plan to ride this bike mid-hard you are gonna need a different shock. Just wanted to pass along my experience demo'ing it.
Bottom Line:Didn't really get a feel for it b/c the shock went in the first 30 secs of getting on the bike.

Date Reviewed: May 28, 2003
Favorite Trail:any
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $609.00
Purchased At:supergo.com
Strengths:Great solid bike, bike balances perfect, and is great at climbing
Weaknesses:rear shock could be upgraded in the future, probably to a cane creek AD-12, but all in all the AD-5 is great once you get the PSI where you want it
Bike Setup:All stock
Bottom Line:I live in Alabama which means not many extreme downhills, mostly rolling hills. I needed a bike that was a good climber as well as something I could cut loose on coming back down the hills. I also ride quite a bit around my school's campus and downtown. I have frequently dropped 4-5 foot drops and the bike has held up great. The Hayes mechanical discs stop on a dime. This bike is perfectly balanced to my riding style. I am about 5'11" and weigh approx. 160 lbs. I have the 19" frame and the fit is perfect. I swapped out the factory shimano clipless pedals for a pair of wellgo platfrom pedals. The front fork (manitu axel comp) is adequate but for anyboy heavier than me it might feel a bit to soft. All in all the Sinister DX is a great trail bike that climbs like a hardtail and can be ridden like a downhill bike when you want to. I would recomend this bike to anybody who does not want to spend a fortune on a bike yet still have a quality bike with quality components.

Favorite Trail:skeggs, tahoe, 'toga gap
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $789.00
Purchased At:bikeswholesale.com
Strengths:Price...look at what you get for the price...the frame is a free-bee. Hayes disks are awesome in wet conditions, maxxis mobsters are beefy.
Weaknesses:Large weighs in at 33lbs. Frame is 'Made in China'. Seat feels like a brick. koski bar could be a bit wider.
Similar Products Used:test rode GTs, Giant warp ds2 & nrs3, $pecialized fsr & big hit...previous bike was $pecialized hard-tail.
Bike Setup:FOB (fresh out of box)...bikeswholesale.com does a great job assembling & shipping...bike is ready to ride 10 minutes after UPS drops it on your porch.
Bottom Line:Crane Creek, SPD, Hayes mech. disks (more grab than Don Johnson at a Hooters), mavic, maxxis, koski, truvativ, manitou axel comp, deore/deore, 9-spd. cassette. Load this onto any other frame and the price doubles. If the Iron Horse frame holds up, the bike is a steal...if it doesn't, load the components on another frame & it's still a deal. Climbs well...no noticable 'bob'. Why is Iron Horse is unloading these 2003 models thru an on-line discounter?? Lawsuit??? Who cares...this bike looks and feels solid at an entry-level price!!

Favorite Trail:whatever
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $789.00
Purchased At:GetAwayBikes.com
Strengths:Great all around value
Weaknesses:Seat sucked - Bad! Changed it out with a Serfas Rx
Bike Setup:Stock, except seat - Now using Serfas Rx
Bottom Line:The price was key... I got a "Decent" calibur bike for not a lot of $$. I havent rode in ten years but getting back on a bike this one was definetley a pleasure. Buy this if you want a good full suspension with out a ridiculous price tag.
