Bottom Line:This is an excellent mountain bike for the price. As many of the other reviews have stated, it is well speced out for the money. The shifting is very smooth and the bike feels very solid. The design of the frame is awesome for maneuvering over and around rocks on a trail.

Only problems I ran into was that I had a clicking noise coming from the bottom bracket when I pedaled. I brought it right back to the shop I purchased it from. The tech was able to tighten each side about a 1/4" turn which fixed my issue. The only other problem I had was that the front brake caliper was out of alignment that I fixed with a quick adjustment.

Favorite Trail:any without horse poop and that are downhill both ways
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $480.00
Purchased At:stupidgo now perform
Strengths:A beefy frame that is still light, most of the components are top notch for the price. My fave components are the Hayes nine hydraulic disc brakes & the Rock Shox Judy SL U-turn fork, WTB tires have a good tread pattern
Weaknesses:The Truvative cranks and the no-name chain & Taiwanese wheel set lacing job, Heavy wheelset & tires, and the integrated headset
Similar Products Used:Trek 8000LT and various hard tails
Bike Setup:I ditched a few parts the bike now has a Kevlar bead Kenda small block 8 rear tire XT rear derailleur cassette and hub as well as a new RaceFace XC crankset and bottom bracket and a new SRAM chain. I ditched the iron butt saddle for a more comfortable one and installed some BMX pedals, the bike came with some Shimano clipless pedals that were nice I just prefer the platforms. The Judy U-turn fork is a nice touch as well
Bottom Line:Bang for you buck ix excellent! You will be hard pressed to find anything as nicely speced as this bike for the price. There were a few issues though: The Truvative crank set and the no name chain were awful, and were not very durable the middle chain ring was destroyed within the first 15 miles and the chain somehow chipped a tooth on the LX derailleur pulley causing major shifting problems. I feel the root of the problem was the crappy chain that had a kink from the factory if the chain never had the kink I probably would have left the bike in its stock form (craigslist saved the day I was able to buy all my upgraded components for $100). The bike needed a dish adjustment on the rear wheel after its first ride I chalk that up to mass production luckily that was a simple and free fix at a LBS. Even though my bike is no longer stock, after spending money on upgrades, I still feel I am way ahead of the game. Today $480 does not buy you very much bike most bikes dont have hydraulic disc brakes along with a decent frame and fork. Overall I am very pleased and would recommend this bike because of the value and the quality frame.

Purchased At:Supergo
Strengths:Value, geometry, awesome frame quality, Iron Horse customer support (Ska Todd is very helpful in the Iron Horse MTBR Forum)
Weaknesses:Slightly heavier (Emphasis on slightly
Similar Products Used:Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo
Bike Setup:Stock
Bottom Line:(Review is for the 2005 model) This bike is a steal of a deal for an entry level rider. For less than $470 I got a great bike with components found on bikes costing twice as much. Certain things will need upgrading eventually (Fork, crankset) but with the money saved initially, when these items wear out I can upgrade them with the right stuff. The Rock Shox Judy SL is a bit heavy but it does the job in good fashion, I think an upgrade here down the road can save you well over a pound of weight and improve performance drastically. The Truvativ Five D crankset has held up better than some of the reviews for it say, but I can feel it flexing under very hard pedaling. Overall this is a great bike, I like the geometry better than that of my old Hoo Koo E Koo.

As for frame fit, I am 6'2" with a 33" inseam and I chose the 19.5" frame. Everything fits me well, however the seat post is right at the "minimum insertion mark." If you're looking to get into the sport for not too much and want something you can grow into, this is the bike for you!

Favorite Trail:Highland Forest
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $400.00
Purchased At:Doyle's
Strengths:Great for the price
Hayes brakes
LX/Deore drive
tires better than most bikes in this price range
Weaknesses:no locktite on several bolts
platform pedals
the seat
a bit on the heavy side (my 21.5" frame doesn't help)
Similar Products Used:Ironhorse MT500
Jamis Durango SX
Trek 3700
Bike Setup:All stock, but the bike came with an LX rear derailleur and a Manitou Axle instead of the advertised Deore and Pilot
Bottom Line:First, I must say that the rogue is a hardtail, not a full susser that this category implies. Now, onto my thoughts:
Jamis is probably the only company that rivals Ironhorse for value. The LX/Deore drivetrain and hayes brakes simply cannot be found on many bikes under $500. Apparently, the company ran out of the Pilot forks, so they substituted the Manitou (which isn't a bad fork, even if it's not great) and upgraded the rear to LX to compensate. I love the frame geometry - the bike has a very stable and solid feel. The only uncomfortable aspect of the bike is the seat, which becomes a literal pain in the butt if you ride every day. My only real gripe with the bike was probably a blip in manufacturing. I was riding down a rocky hill at a rock quarry I like to ride when i noticed heavy modulation coming from the rear brake. When a came to a stop, I realized that one of the mounting bolts had fallen off the brake caliper. Fortunately, my buddy's bar end had a bolt that threaded up, but I came to realize that nobody put any locktight on the rear brakes. The front had it, but not the rear. Unfortunately, Iron Horse discontinued the Rogue line. It still exists somewhat as the Maverick Expert, and Iron Horse still makes great bikes at a great price. Check them out if you can.

Favorite Trail:Vulture's Knob
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $500.00
Purchased At:Spin Bike Shop
Strengths:Excellent Price for components
Deore Drivesystem
Hayes disk brakes
Weaknesses:Heavy tires
Low end shock
Upgrade the shocks and tires before anything else
Similar Products Used:Specialized Hardrock
Trek 6700
Bike Setup:Factory installed
Bottom Line:Great bike for price. I found the same basic bike in a Trek and Specialized for another $200. You can't beat the bike for the price. The Deore derailers and Hayes disk brakes make this bike a great buy. Works well for the road or the trail. Excellent bike for those looking to spend under $1000
