Leavers feel of so nice, and the breaks are decent. | | Weaknesses: | leaver snapped in half, ripped the m arch of the shock, bent the outer chainring, snapped handle bar in half, bent the stem and snapped the back rim in half. | | Bottom Line: | Can't be the price. I reviewed a couple posts down when i first bought it and i stand here today. There is not a better deal out there. With some upgrade this bike could be awsome. slap a new fork on there aswell as some burly rims, your away to the races. I broke som parts replaced it with some new. Havn't had a problem. But please if you decided to do anything aggressive with this bike, get e new fork and rims! The sweet part about this company is that they warrantied everything! the leaver, the shock the handle bar and seatpost. $700.00 | | Strengths: | Inexpensive, looks good, lots of name brand parts. Good geometry, Hussefelt cranks, Sun rims, Hayes mechanicals. That's about $650 worth of 'good stuff' right there.........getting the complete bike for $50-100 more is just a bonus! =) | | Weaknesses: | You guys aren't going to want to hear this but: Tires (Maxxis is the worst tire company ever!), tubes, seat (Koski...another cruddy company), chainring (like another guy said, it's just stamped like a cookie cutter), chain, bars..........all broken, bent, or worn out within the first month. Grips are garbage (but who cares?) and the fork is the cheapest thing Marzocchi makes. Cassette is on its way out too. I also bent up one of the Avid levers, but that isn't Avid's fault. | | Similar Products Used: | Cannondale, Schwinn, Fisher, and Trek hardtails. | | Bike Setup: | Replaced everything that broke with better stuff, and put on some DK platform pedals (personal preference there). Bash ring replaced the big ring. | | Bottom Line: | If you are a casual rider who rides 50% street/urban and 50% trails/bmx track this is the bike for you. If you are a serious rider, you're going to break a lot of stuff.............but the price is right and the frame is totally quality, as are the brakes, rims, and cranks. Avid are a lot stronger but more sensitive and are horrible on slow moving trails. | | Weaknesses: | Grips are a deffinate replacement. Outer chainring I believe is on pressed steel and i bent it while going over a log. I suggest getting a rock guard or a high grade chain ring. If doing for downhill the xc Avid discs might be more up your ally | | Bike Setup: | lx/deore drive trains. Sun ringle cassette, and sun ringle hill rod rims. Hayes mech disc. Truvativ crankset. Hg72 chain. deore shifters and avid leavers. bomber forks and 7005 aluminum "A" frame if reinforced plates near the stem. | | Bottom Line: | Absuluetly cannot beat the price. I paid 950 Cdn taxes in at Sport Chek in Canada, and even now they are less and are selling at 799. I have bin to many shops and can't find a deal that can even come close to it. The geometry is right on, and the welds (frames are made for Ironhorse by Kinesis) and paintwork are quality. Truvativ HUSSEFELT cranks, decent component spec, all Deore/Deore LX drivetrain, lots of 'name brand' parts, overall good value for the money. The Marzocchi fork works great, once it's dialed in. | | Weaknesses: | Some of this is nitpicking, but here we go: Bent the rails on the Koski Freeride saddle already, going to find out if it's covered under warranty. Broke the (replaceable) derailleur hanger. Ate through the stock chainstay protector in about 3 rides. The stock Maxxis Hard Drive tires don't last long at all. Marzocchi forks require a lot of work getting them up to snuff for freeriding, but now work well. Would be better if the bike came with Hayes hydros and Rhynolite XL's. | | Similar Products Used: | I looked at Kona, Santa Cruz, K2, Cannondale, and just about every other bike under the sun. Ironhorse was the best value of the bunch. Unfortunately, I didn't look at a Haro. | | Bike Setup: | Cut down steerer tube, rebuilt and modded Marzocchi forks, Oury grips (the stockers were horrible), Shimano DX pedals, FSA Pig headset, and then just the usual fine tuning. NO bike is ready "out of the box." | | Bottom Line: | Bottom line, eh? I'm totally happy with my bike. I ride it at least 5 days a week and it handles jumping and ledges with ease. I ride rocky, rooted trails...........and it gets me around those trails and up the hills well. The handling is great and the price was right on, however, I would of bought the Norco Rampage or Haro 8.3 if I had to do it again. Sure they cost about $300 more, but you get better forks with both of them, and the Rhynolites. The Haro adds Hayes hydros to that price too. | | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |

$700.00 | | Purchased At: | Downhill Cycles | | Strengths: | Low price, excellent fit and finish, good geometry, same frame as the Stout, Hayes mechanical discs ($100+), Marzocchi Bomber ($220 fork), Maxxis tires, Sun rims, Truvative Hussefelt with Isis BB (there's almost another $200 right there!), etc. Do the math........you are getting your moneys worth with this bike, even if you want to do some upgrades. | | Weaknesses: | Considering how much the bike cost, it's hard to fault it. However it would be nice if the bike came with a better Marzocchi (like the DJ or Z.1) even if it raised the price by $150-200 or so. Even then, it would still be a great value. Actually, maybe even a better value, since hardcore jumpers are going to want a better fork. The grips aren't the greatest either, but that's really nitpicking, isn't it? | | Similar Products Used: | I test rode the K2 Flyin' Monkey, Kona Stuff and Roast, a couple of the Marin hardtails, and a Jamis Dakar Sport. This was equal or better than all of those, for far less money. | | Bike Setup: | Grips and pedals were changed immediately. Recently I put on a set of Titec 'Hellbent' bars because I wanted a little higher rise, but it wasn't a necessity. Besides from the grips, the bike is ready to ride right out of the box. | | Bottom Line: | A great bike for the money. If you want to spend more, go ahead and get the Ironhorse Stout or maybe the K2 Brass Monkey, but for the difference in price you could just upgrade this bike as you saw fit and then sell the stuff you took off (on eBay or something) and be ahead of the game. I did my homework before buying this, so I think this is the best freeriding hardtail you can buy for under $1000. | | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |
