-fork has awesome adjustability:travel, preload, compression and rebound
-disc brakes
-good components for price range
-affordable freerider | | Weaknesses: | -clipless pedals(shouldn't come on this bike in the first place)
-fork and shock springs are too soft(I'm 140 and they bottom out on anything higher than a six foot drop)
-tires are too skinny | | Similar Products Used: | None really, just my buddies' bikes | | Bike Setup: | Stock, except for Specialized Body Geometry seat, FSA bashring, stiff fork spring and 700lb shock coil, Weyless B27 pedals and Maxxis High Roller tires | | Bottom Line: | Great freerider if you are on a budget. I've ridden IronHorse before and despite what others say they are a great and reliable bike manufacturer. Truvative cranks, the Black Elite (a $600 dollar fork), Hayes mech, and the licensed 4-bar suspension. | | Weaknesses: | The tires are far too narrow to spec on a freeride bike. They belong on a cross country bike, as do the clipless pedals.
There is only 2 inches at most of seatpost adjusment, and there is no quick release.
It's rather heavy coming off a hardtail, but comparable to other freeride bikes. | | Similar Products Used: | Norco Nitro | | Bike Setup: | Stock except bashguard, Rokko 2.4 front tire, and Sun Ringle Zuzu pedals | | Bottom Line: | For the price (employee discount), I couldn't complain at all about the bike. It floats over bumps and drops, and doesn't give you that much bob. It isn't nearly as fun on the uphills, but what do you expect. The spec could get better, but not by much. I'd have liked Avid brakes instead of Hayes, and better tires and pedals, but I can live. I have had some problems with the fork, which isn't Iron Horse's problem at all.

The frame is first class and rear suspension is the patented FSR 4-bar with six inches of travel. The Manatou black 120 mm. is better than any shock out there except the Psylo. | | Weaknesses: | The only weakness this product has is the bad rap that Ironhorse has because of the fact that they sell lower end bikes at some dept. stores. I feel bad for those stocking dealers who ignore the topline bikes this company has to offer. I feel really bad when I pass by their boarded up closed down stores. | | Similar Products Used: | Compare to Kona, Norco, Marin, Ellsworth, and other hardcore freeride bikes, compare specs. do the math. you can pay more if you want to but why. | | Bike Setup: | Stock except for the Haro flat pedals. | | Bottom Line: | This bike is a monster right out of the box. It ate the local torture trails at Hooper Rd. and Comite River parks. These being some of the most tecnical, root riddled, clay banked, snake infested rides in existence. (don't take my word for it come on down and see for yourself, but be warned, bring your first aid kit!)
There is no better buy than this bike for hardcore souls. The new '02 Ginsu carves and has more than ample travel for big drops and forgives the rider with a suprising lack of hand shock and sore back and will bring your tired whipped body back to the trailhead, still wanting more. | | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |
