Submitted by Shoey79 a Weekend Warrior from Kamloops, BC, Canada
Date Reviewed: November 26, 2008
Favorite Trail:Harper Mtn
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $15.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Grip, more grip and lots of grip! Cheap too!
Weaknesses:None, as long as you don't try to use a rear tire as a front tire.
Similar Products Used:Maxxis, Kenda, Pannaracer, IRC, Schwalbe, Hutchinson, and Vee Rubber.
Bike Setup:A little Stinky.
Bottom Line:Wicked grip. Got the tire as light cheap tire to make getting up the hill easier, and end up being a good tire for the way down too. Its like a heavy duty single ply tire, it holds up to some really nasty rocks and roots on fast DH runs. I'm amazed that the tire is holding up this good. The lugs just grip anything and the it holds a line ripping in the corners. I don't feel my back end slip out at all.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Strengths:Good grip, lightning acceleration and wears well.
Weaknesses:As everyone else - CORNERS
Similar Products Used:Continental cross country,Geak hubi,Hutchinson mosquito n maxxis wormD/minotaur.
Bike Setup:stock bike.
Bottom Line:Safe my life before. I was speeding down a road in the rain when I noticed a vehicle coming out of a corner. Jammed on the brakes like gripping for my dear life. The tire just took all the gravity and braking force with little slip. Stopped in time and....I trully recommend this tire for riders with safety conscious. The tire don't work well in corners only if you spins out too fast on extreme angle, that I noticed. Otherwise, slow down and pick-up pace on the turns, just like it was meant to be - fast on the acceleration.

Date Reviewed: May 22, 2001
Favorite Trail:Timberlake (FWB, FL)
Duration Product Used:3 months
Strengths:Climbs exceptionally well. Fast rolling. Good braking.
Weaknesses:Front tire slides a little too much, both tires a little too heavy.
Bike Setup:Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo
Bottom Line:These are average tires in my opinion. I've ridden these hard and they still show only slight wear. The trails I ride have alot of roots and loose sand. These tires climb roots like nobody's business but handle only adequate in loose sand. I just recently switched to Maxxis Mofo XC and they handle better in most conditions (including mud). The only category were the Pirhana Pro handles better is climbing and braking.

Date Reviewed: October 22, 2000
Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:Bike Line - Allentown, PA
Strengths:Good tread wear and overall durability
Weaknesses:watch out for performance on wet rocks.
Similar Products Used:Tioga Psycho TT, Continental Traction
Bike Setup:Trek 6500, stock components
Bottom Line:I started with the Tioga rear tire and it didn't climb like I wanted, but the Piranha Pro grabs the trail great! Over a summer season of heavy use (500+ miles of technical Eastern PA singletrack) they wore well. I shredded the tread on this tire and it never stopped working. As a side note, I just got the Continental Traction tires, and hope they compare in quality.

Strengths:Great acceleration & braking.
Light.
Weaknesses:Unpredictable in corners.
Similar Products Used:Nothing this light.
Bike Setup:Tunturi Equillar XT & RockShox Judy SL & full XT
Bottom Line:These things came stock on my bike and they've given me some extra heartthrobs because when they let go in a corner they do it FAST. Apart from letting go in corners I love'em.

Favorite Trail:
My back yard.
Duration Product Used:

Strengths:
It climbs like a fricken batt out of hell plain and simple :).
Weaknesses:
Unpredictable on low down corners.
Similar Products Used:
I can't really compare this thin.
Bike Setup:
Oxford Alt-3000.
Bottom Line:The bottom line is, if you want a wheel that can make you move if you want to, get this tire ASAP. It accelerates like you would NOT believe and its a a pretty predictable tire overall. 4 because heh the unpredictablity part.

Favorite Trail:
Bataan Death Ride
Duration Product Used:
6 months
Strengths:
-all condition climbing braking
Weaknesses:
-sidewalls are splitting corners unpredictably
Similar Products Used:
-various Contis
Bike Setup:
-Equipe/Bomber
Bottom Line:The rear tire has proven itself on a variety of surfaces;it sticks like glue on any sort of climb. Too bad about the aforementioned splits because the tread has held up really well. The front tire is squirmy on hardpacked trails; watch the corners. Use something else up front.

Bottom Line:What is everyone talking about. These tires are horrable! I can not trust them for anything. They consistantly wash out on me and never stick on hard pack, sand, mud, or just about anything else.

Bottom Line:

These tires came stock on my bike and the rear is now completely worn out after only 4 months of riding. They do a decent job climbing and in the staight line but they sure do suck in the corners. I wiped out the first time I took a downhill corner pretty aggressively. I'd definately go with different tires.

Date Reviewed: June 6, 1998
Bottom Line:

I have had these tires for almost 2 years now, they still don't need to be relaced. Everyones comments on these seem to be pretty accurate; They climb well, accelerate well, last long.....but they are the scariest in fast, loose soiled (eg gravel), steep corners. I have tried other tires, and these seem to be the worst in cornering. You can't really predict when they will give way. If you 'rail' the bike with total focus and caution, they work. The Piranha Pro's have limited me to not go as fast as I want to in corners. Soon I will probably buy a new set of tires.....such as Specialized Team Master/Control, or IRC Mythos. The Piranha Pro's deserve a 2.5 chili rating...but today I feel generous, so I give it 3!!

Bottom Line:

I was pretty happy with these tires for the first four or five months of use. They had a nice agressive tread and gripped well. I did notice, though, that like everyone's been mentioning they aren't the best in the corners. Since the rainy season started I've realized that when it's muddy out they're crap every else too. Don't get me wrong I'm sure they grip really well for the first five feet or so, but after that they are so helplessly packed that I might as well be riding slicks. Overall, a good tire for dry hard packed trails with slow turns.

The Piranha/Pro's came stock on my bike. They lasted for a year, and I replaced them with the same exact tire. They are an excellent all-around tire. Tend to clog up on mud a little fast, though. Overall, an excellent choice.

IRC is a great company. I have the Mythos tires and my girlfriend has the Piranha Pro's. The Piranha Pro's have lasted forever. We have the blackwalled ones, and they look really good. Performance wise they are fine. The rear really helps you climb.Hey man, with a cool little fish on your tire, you can't go wrong!

I´ve been using a prinha pro front tire, and so far I can´t complain. Great curve abilities and enough traction not to slip away sideways in our usual wet and muddy european conditions. A definite buy.

Came stock on my C-dale. I have a rear on the front too. (2 rear tires??)
Hook-up good in most conditions.
Get clogged with mud fairly easily.
Horrible in loose, wet snow (Is there any good tire for it)
Scary on wet clay, I've slid out numerous times

Date Reviewed: March 27, 1997
Bottom Line:

The Piranha Pro's came stock on my bike and I've used them for quite some months. My impression of them is that they're very good when new but as soon as the knobs are half worn, they're not very grippy at all. When the tires were new, I was actually amazed at the amount of traction they provide in rocky ruts and slightly loose soil. The front tire cornered very well and can be leaned at will; if you want, it will even guide itself out of ruts with good side traction. The rear tire is good for slightly loose soil (not flowing loose) and more than adequate for rocky or hard packed surfaces. Both front and rear do not shred mud very well and are not suitable on wet, loose surfaces (such as with wet leaves). Durability-wise, the front is still going strong although the rear is past its prime with ~1000 of off-road miles). I think I would have bought another set of these tires if not for my curiosity to try something new.

The PiranhaPro grips like you won't believe. The first few times
out with it was an amazing experience. I could crank around obstacles on
completely pine needled-covered ground, and it tracked true. We ride a lot
of mud around here which usually sucks. With this tire mud clearence is
sweet, and it tracks well in the grime. I never see myself using a different
front tire ever again.

Bottom Line:

These tires are great out here in the nw where anything can and does happen on the trails. They climb dang near anything, from loose gravel all the way to hardpack. Even good in clay. Excellent mud/snow release. Hard knobbies are great in no-bank corners, you don't hafta worry about them going out from underneath you. They suck on pavement, but that's why there's slick tires out there. The price makes em even better.

I got the PirhanoPro's stock on a new bike I bought a month ago. My old bike had run-of-the-mill Kenda tires, and I thought tires were all the same. Not true! The PPs really grip the ground, and I've not slid an inch while grinding through mud. The resistance blows on pavement, but who cares? They tear up gravely hills and plough through mud on the single-track. I'm sure there are better tires - but I'm happy with these.

This tire bites! It bites especially well in sand, which is a common
venue for me and my bike. The rolling resistance is a little high
on pavement, but not bad enough to dump the tire.
It also does a good job of cleaning itself of the sticky, yucky
crap here that the locals call mud.

Very good tire. I have ridden about 400 miles commuting to work on pavement with
very little wear. It handles very nicely around corners. Could be better
climbing. I have had only a few flats, mostly from thorns. Front tire tracks very
well.

Bottom Line:

Good back tire with very good tread life on and off the road. Excellent
traction although it tends to carry a little mud with it. On the front it
tends to push or give a little and doesn't track as well as some others but
it is still much better than most and is quite aggressive. I havn't found a
better tire for plowing over the neighbors cats, although it tends to
carry a little fur with it. Get one for your rear, big boy. Unless you'd
rather get sloppy and take it up front.

I like this tire on the rear, I haven't had a chance to try the front,
because I received the wrong size. The rear blazes up hills with good
ease or I am just getting better at climbing hills. I ride the 2.0 Kevlar,
which is a bit lighter than the 2.1 around 570g. It rides awesome through
mud, with great mud shedding capability, others get stuck in the mud while
I just ride on by...

The IRC Piranha/Pro Kevlar Rear really does it's work! With this tire you can
climb any mountain. Haven't tried it that long yet, so I don't really know if
the dual compound makes it last longer, but atleast it's a great tire for
climbing.
