Date Reviewed: January 24, 2009
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $1300.00
Purchased At:Ibex
Strengths:I believe that Ibex delivers with a well designed machine straight from the factory.
Weaknesses:You're on your own after purchase.
Similar Products Used:none
Bike Setup:2008 Expert.
Bottom Line:This is a pretty good deal in a bike that obviously has been well tested. Judging from the frame design it may very well be built in the same factory as Kona bicycles. I am very happy with it.

BUT, this is not a bike for people who do not do their own mechanicing. It is FACTORY DIRECT, and every bolt, every bearing (unless sealed) was BONE DRY and the bike will need a rebuild when received. If you can do this yourself, fine, if not, figure the cost of a rebuild into the price. If $$$ are your main concern and you do no rely on a bike shop - Ibex rocks.

Date Reviewed: May 1, 2007
Favorite Trail:Merlis
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $1300.00
Purchased At:Ibex direct
Strengths:Climbing and ascending abilities, great component mix.
Weaknesses:Limited rear travel, but it is a XC bike.
Similar Products Used:Giant NRS, Gt I-Drive
Bike Setup:Stock except for a new stem and carbon handle bar.
Bottom Line:Great value and bike for the money. I ride cross country and this bike climbs well. I can also bomb down hills provided there is not massive drops. The 2007 has a half inch more travel, which is better. I sometimes come close to bottoming out, but it hasn't happened yet.

Date Reviewed: November 6, 2006
Favorite Trail:D-ville, Solstice, Oat Hill
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:Ibex
Strengths:Solid flex free frame. Very smooth climbing or decending. Loves tight singletrack with some air time thrown in.
Weaknesses:Ummmmm cant find one.
Similar Products Used:Marin Team Issue 4 bar, Rocky Mountain Slayer 50, Cannondale Gemini 3000
Bike Setup:Setup as a 4X type bike because the '06 is sutch a solid frame.
Bottom Line:Wasnt shure where to post so i figured this was a great place. The bike was a build from the frame up but instead of as a XC bike used it as a AM/DJ/Mild DH/XC bike. Needed a bike that i could ride & friends could barrow. Normally i ride a 6 inch travel 39 pound bike so this was a big differance. After almost 1 year of abuse the frame is still jumping up & down for more abuse & loving it. If your looking for a bike that that can do almost everything & you dont have to spend hours on maintance the '06 Asta is definatly worth looking at. All pivot bearings have stayed tight never needing adjustments & are as smooth as new. If there were more Chilis i would slap them down but im a limited, dang.

Date Reviewed: June 15, 2006
Favorite Trail:landahl park
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $1200.00
Purchased At:ibexbikes.com
Strengths:Value, excellent component mix, Customer service
Weaknesses:Maybe the tires? Front tire has washed out a few times but could be from having too much air pressure.
Similar Products Used:Specialized Stumpjumper FSR
Bike Setup:Stock with Shimano 646 DX pedals
Bottom Line:I had been saving money for a Specialized Stumpy FSR but couldnt wait any longer after seeing the Asta on sale online. I took a chance and ordered the Asta Expert and boy am i glad i did. This is my first full suspension bike and there is no comparison to my 10yr old hardtail! I have about 16-17 hours on this bike and after getting the shock/fork dialed in the ride has been amazing! I also didnt know how i would like the dual control shifters/brake levers but they have worked flawlessly as well as the hydro lx brakes. This is an excellent bike for the money, it is spec'd better than some $2000 bikes i test rode. This would be a perfect bike for someone looking for their first full suspension bike.
