The Stroker Ace features Hayes' first four-piston, forged mono-bloc caliper and our biggest pads ever, giving the Ace tremendous heat management capabilities. We've also designed a longer lever for increased leverage at the bar. Mated to the proven Stroker master cylinder, this makes the Ace our most powerful brake ever, while advancing the already unmatched Stroker modulation. At a system weight of 427g (including 6" rotor and hardware), the Ace trumps all the other gravity-oriented brakes in the deck.

Weaknesses:
Sintered metallic pads can be noisy.
Similar Products Used:
Hayes Stroker Trail
Bike Setup:
Jamis Daker XAM1, Fox Float32 RL, Fox DHX Air 3.
Bottom Line:
I bought these to replace a two year old set of Stroker Trails that I found were not producing as much power as I was now requiring. Over the last 2 years my riding has become a lot more aggressive and speed has been increasing. I upgraded to 8" rotors with the Trails but found that power was still an issue.
Immediately after installing the Ace's with 7" rotors, the power went through the roof. Initial bite is still very smooth but I can now feed the power on until they lock up. Modulation is increased over the Trails and the power is atleast double.
I mainly ride XC and AM and the weight penalty (50g) is nothing. Anyone who needs more power or modulation out of their brakes would benefit from a set of these.
The factory sintered metallic pads can be noisy at low speeds, but it does not worry me at all. A change to semi metallic may help with noise but will lose a touch of power and increase pad wear.
They look outstanding and my hands don't hurt after riding down large descents anymore.
Big thumbs up!

Strengths:
Power. Lever feel. Look (if you care)
Weaknesses:
Some noise after prolonged slow speed in dusty/dry conditions. (mostly rear) Avoidable and does not affect braking. Smooths out after short smooth application (10 sec)
Similar Products Used:
Shimano LX (not nearly as much power) metalic (much worse noise) resin (less noise). Juicy Carbon almost as much power but way more noise and WAY more dangerous vibration (hate 'em / love em) Hayes HFC 9 not as much power, but smoother quieter at low speed/dusty. Elixer- not as much power. Formula the One - not as much power
Bike Setup:
GT DHi
Bottom Line:
Very nice. I hate just about everything Manitou I've ever touched (3 of 4 forks), but the hayes brakes I have have always been good. I don't especially like the lever on the HFC 9 because it doesn't have a 'finger hook' for 1 finger braking. So when the lever is close to the bar it feels a little slippery. The Stroker Ace is a sharp contrast to this as it has a nice nook for the index finger. In addition, the reach adjustment is as user friendly as I could possibly imagine. I always imagined this never mattered, but it seems every time you bleed or change pads, the reach must be moved. You could do this blind with mittens on!!!

Bottom Line:
I have have used these brakes for 6 months and these things rock! Took the bike to Morzine in France for a week in August and had no problems at at. Fantastic power, great modulation and zero fading, even on the longest off runs. Worth every penny and I am now saving up to put them on my other bike.
PLEASE NOTE: Be careful these have the potential to throw you over the bars if you are not careful :-)

Bottom Line:
I got a GREAT deal on these on the MTBR classifieds $200 shipped New in box or I would never have bought them. I would never pay the $500 MSRP for anything Hayes makes.
That being said, these modulate VERY well 4 piston brakes on 8" rotors is something to be feared but these just won't hurt ya. Great power with great feel. I'm not too wild about the styling and the pink piston inserts but I'll get over it for the deal I got.
Brake pads seem to be wearing very slowly and are typically a little noisy. Can't wait to throw some Kool Stops on there and really have fun.
If you can get a great deal on em but em, if you're gonna pay full price I still feel that Shimano Saint will be nicer in every way and more reliable in the long run.
