Where should I start..... they squeak, cut up rotors... total crap, not very strong grip, and very hard and time consuming to adjust and replace pads

Bottom Line:
Crap. Dont buy them, dont look at them, dont even mumble the name... they will break. They hacked the crap out of my rotor and now its bent and cut.... so.. terrible product. my hands would work better as a caliper than that so-called brake. I'm disgusted.

Everyone hates mech brakes, and people sure don't like these...WHy...i have no idea... I've been using these with my new bike for the past 2 months and they've been awesome. More than one time I was heading down the street a little too fast behind a car, car brakes suddenly, panic pull on the brakes and i do a nice little skid to avoid getting the face plant in a bumper plate. Holds me completely still on steep for downhilling, so pretty good power for the price. The worst thing about it is the adjustments...Had to file down the mounting block for the rear brake to get it to stop dragging, but works great now. A little sqweeking when i use it on high speeds, but otherwise seems to be awesome, way better than my vbrakes that refused to stop me no matter how hard i pulled.

Decent stopping power, good for XC.
Weaknesses:
Lots of squealing. I've cleaned em, had them checked over at the shop, nothing stops the squealing. I don't find they work too well for urban. Trying to do fufanu's is hard,as they don't want to keep the rear wheel locked. Stock pads wear out very quickly.

Bottom Line:
If you ride XC, its a good brake, otherwise, go with something else. Not a great brake in my opinion. Waste of time. Avid BB5's or 7's work a heck of a lot better for urban, DJing, and skatepark. Not recommended at all.

these brakes are ok for weekend bikers but if you are taking bikes siriosly you should look into avid discs

You want disc brakes.. I would recomend theese, they are strong enough can handle any weather and are good price. and for jumping, hydraulic brakes are just too much money. Theese are simple brakes and work quite well for mechanical

THEY STOP! I primarily ride freereide and some trials and some down hill and these breaks do what they are supposed to, they STOP! if you can't stop with these disc's you probably should get off your bike and re-think your existance...
Weaknesses:
they do make a little noise and have to adjust the calipers every few rides, if you are irritaied about the noise it makes, but if you are riding and having a blast the noise should not affect you, it definately does not affect performance...

you buy the breaks, you put 'em on, and you use them all day long... they stop, i have had and used the things for almost every day for 6 months and have had no disc's warp or pads give out, heck in 6 mos i have not even gotten new pads! i would recomend these breaks to anyone who likes awesome break controll and hates the mess and maintanence of hydros...

Not as touchy as hydraulic, less maintenence required. All the advantages of hydraulic disc brakes at a mechanical price.
Weaknesses:
I have to adjust the shoes alot so they don't rub on the disc, is somewhat annoying. Takes a few rides for them to really start working.

No fluids to mess with - cable actuation is simple.
Weaknesses:
Absolutely zero stopping power, easily warped rotors. Difficult to dial in. Plus they will not stop rubbing! Spring on pad also wears out and allows the pad to fall out and get jammed in the rotor, which can cause some *excitement*.
Bottom Line:
I would never recommend these brakes to anyone - they are absolutely worthless. Spend the extra cash and go hydro. Hayes should never have bothered with cable actuated discs. If I could give fewer chilis, I would.

Disc Rubs on the rear..even after break in period and all the adjustments known to man it still rubs a little. Wish the adjustment screw would give more space between the pads and disc rotor.

Good for the price if you can't afford hydros..Wish they were easier to adjust. They stop good haven't had any problems there..No problems with lock up. For the price go for it. Not really for downhillers or freeriders but good for the XC crowd.

none. i borrowed a stinky for downhilling and couldn't stop.
Weaknesses:
These things suck. they get hot really quick and then it's all done. there is more arm pump than using v-brakes. there is no modulation. it's either full freewhell or lockup, especially with a rear wheel.

these are horrible. they should never be used. they should never be put on any bike. hayes has such a great hydraulic product i don't know why they even tried to make a mechanical system.
