This bike has seen some serious crashes. Several parts have been replaced but not often. It is fine for downhill. Actually, it is great for downhill. It always gives me a sense of accomplishment when I ride the shuttle up with all the downhill guys with their expensive bikes and me with mine. Especially when I pass them on the trail :). Great bike for anyone who wants to ride anything. Great price, superstrong. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Pushed Fox RC on the back. Avid BB7 brakes and Loco wheelset. | | Bottom Line: | This was a great bike for it's price. The bike is strong and will handle what you throw at it. I'm on the heavier side (about 230) and I've used it for light downhilling to XC riding. Stock components are ok. Use 'em till they wear out and get a quality Marzocchi/Fox on the front. Same for the back. Wrap the chain stay...it gets beat up by the chain plus it'll make the bike way quieter. I've run anywhere from a 120mm stem down to a 50mm. Using a 90 on it now and that seems pretty good. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

This can also be an all-mountain bike, great for XC too. unfortunately...HARO installs it with an XC fork just to reduce the building cost. it works well with a fork around 150mm of travel. with good parts, drops and jumps will be much easier.

$230.00 | | Purchased At: | Friend/old boss | | Strengths: | Solid frame-, Steady forks (Marzies comp) rideline is easy to keep and the fork will take some serious rocks and steady small drops without changing a beat! Our mountain (South mountain)is mostly rock and has quick fast steps if you like to go fast. the 6in of rear travel on the X-force shock was a nice feature so to speak (my last full suspension was in a completely different class-Zemopi) | | Weaknesses: | Heavy frame, Forks have to be adjusted together (two adjust dials one on each side) would upgrade if cost allowed, turn radius sucks, sharp turns are almost impossible on a large frame (I'm a 6'8" rider) I rode a V3 (Old VGF model)for 7 years and it was a dream bike for a xc hardtail (it also took a serious beating-mostly concrete)! The X1 is heavy and knowing that this bike is designed to mostly move in the downward direction it is slow for a daily urban rider to huff around town on 2.25 tires but it makes for a damn good workout-my mountains are nice now. I cannot say much about the rest of the components as I transferred parts (bought bars, stem, fork and frame w/ rear shock)
| | Similar Products Used: | Haro brand-V3 Fullsuspension-Zemopi | | Bike Setup: | Large frame X1, Marzocchi comp fork, race face prodigy cranks, Race face XC BB, DDpro Titanium seat, stock guts and stem, geax sturdy 2.25's, Shimano XC 765 hubs with a rear Mavic EX721(built by me), Shimano XC cassette, Deore rear derailler (original-almost 8 years old!) $650.00 | | Purchased At: | Main Street, Manchester | | Strengths: | tough frame, very cheap price for what you get. Great ergonomic feel, ( I have medium size and am 5'9") | | Weaknesses: | lower end components, heavy, brakes suck. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized FSR XC | | Bike Setup: | CNT monkeylite bars, ATAC pedals, fox float air shock, BI-CYCLE saddle. | | Bottom Line: | Very tough bike. I actuall bought it as a XC bike because my FSR needed too much $$$ to fix up. It decends very well, does not climb well, is heavy, but it is what it is, and does what it does very well. The head tube angle allows me to hit drops and descend downhill fast, something my FSR would make me nervous doing. I upgarded the rear shock, with a FOX float....completely transformed the bike. I am now riding a $900 bike ( w/shock) that rides better than my beloved FSR. The brakes suck, but juicers are on order.
The botoom line..the bike is bullet proof. I have ridden it very hard over very rocky terrain, and in 2-1/2 years have broken nothing. And thanks to my wifes cooking, I now weight in at around 190 lbs. So , for the $$$$ I do not regret buying this bike at all | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

This is a XC/All Mountain bike. Not a freeride bike. The fork that came on it was a MZ Comp, and by Marzocchi's classification, is a XC fork. I don't use mine for Freeride, so it dosn't matter. I love the bike. I upgraded the suspension, and the bike is now a kick-butt All Mountain ride. Once I got the fork and rear shock dialed in, I've enjoyed it more and more. In summer I ride 1 - 3 times a week. 1 - 4 hours/ride. I wore out the bottom bracket within 4 months. So I ride alot. This bike is very tough, and has not given me any problems otherwise. It is a little heavy, but the most important factor for me is that it is fun to ride. Therfore I ride more. I recommend this bike to anyone, just upgrade the suspension if you have the $$. Dollar for dollar, I have less $$ in this, with the same performance as a Heckler, or Prophet level of bike. Good value. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$750.00 | | Purchased At: | Planet Bike | | Strengths: | Great value, takes alot of abuse, even 5' drops to flat, very stable even in loose rocks, very predictable handling and good weight distribution. | | Weaknesses: | The 03/04 models had bad forks (mine came w/ a 'zzochi comp1), hard to get up the hills, brake jacking and slightly sloppy handling, my model had terrible cranks that broke in the first month of riding.
On small and extra small frames the rear wheel hits the frame in the 6" travel mode- when called Haro said this is normal. 5" works better here anyway. | | Similar Products Used: | MZ-50, Enduro PRO | | Bike Setup: | Duro cranks, H2 disks front and back, Comp1 fork.
I recomend running a Blue Groove/Nevegal (front/rear) combo, works like a dream on this bike. | | Bottom Line: | Great bike for the price, a perfect fit for someone just getting their first real mountainbike, but unable to dish out several thousand for a serious bike. Most of the problems from my year model have been fixed at this point. The aforementioned problem with handling are caused by the bike having a too wide turning radius which sucks for switchbacks, otherwise it's very stable and perdictable. Those with good legs will appreciate this bike, but the single pivot platformeless frame+shock will take a toll on the weaker riders. Bike is dependable both on and off the ground, and has covered for me during some realy bad landings. If you get an older model with the Comp1 fork, switch it immediatly, it will break, as will the cranks on that model.

Alright, Alright... i have riden this bike with the origonal components, but i just had a major upgrade. The frame is solid as a rock... it has survived 6 downhill race punishments and a 4ft drop to flat up by house. Componentry is tip top for 800$ | | Weaknesses: | The origonal fork was to small. I swaped it for a Marzocchi MX Comp, which was also too small. Really, this bike needs a 5" or more fork. Weight, this was a heavy bike, but if money is spent over time it becomes quite light. Bottom bracket fills with water. | | Similar Products Used: | n/a | | Bike Setup: | X1 with 2001 Physlo Sl fork, Mavic rims, Nova Light Hubs (Taiwan Rocks!), Easton EA 70 Seatpost, Thomson Stem, Easton EA 50 Handlebars, Shimano Deore Hydro Brakes, XT Drivetrain, Travativ Stylo Crank(External bearings), e.Thirteen Bashring MOST IMPORTANTLY Manitou 3-Way Swinger air can.
WEIGHT: 28.5-29 POUNDS | | Bottom Line: | I Love this bike. I sometimes beleive that i am pusing the frame beyond its limits, but then i go and do something more stupid, and nothing goes wrong. Raced it a couple weeks back in a downhill. While practicing i could never get the courage to jump the doubles. The first time i went for it, i came up short and tumbled, oops. Not the bikes fault i told myself, next time came up short again. A buzz from the back tire, and everything was fine. Funny how far i have pushed it, never truely beleived its strength. Now, 0n the upgrades. The crank was unbeilivbly heavy, strong true, but heavy. The Bottom bracket fills with water, and after a couple months it started creaking like it was going to snap. The X-Fusion shock was great for a while, but as soon as the drops started rolling my way the only way to set it up was to have it really harsh on small bumps (even with 6 inches!!!!) Besides, the shock weighs at least a kilo. The forks are pretty xc oriented. Plan on doing drops? upgrade fork or it will break. Handle Bars and grips were really comfortable, however the headset did give up on me a couple months ago, and it isn't really that easy to replace. The awosome paint job is chipping off the swing arm from chain slap, but an innertube wrapped around the area solved that problem. The tire buzzes on the front derailier cable guide whenever i bottom out. Hopefully cable guides are made on brackets and sold by some random company, or i am going to have to take this matter into my own hands. This bike Rocks for xc (we'll see how well i do next month) and has been taken to the podium of a downhill. Great for the money, buy it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Someone gave me the frame last April, and I built it up with components from friends and my other bikes. The fork retailed for almost as much as the entire X1 build! | | Weaknesses: | The D'er hanger is complete crap!!! I break one almost monthly! That's $240 per year in D'er hangers - 1/3 the cost of the bike! My last one lasted two rides! Sheard while pedaling on nealr level terrain! | | Similar Products Used: | Tried a bunch of bikes, owned a few. | | Bike Setup: | Key Build components:
Sherman Firefly 130mm Swinger 3-way SRAM X.9 trigger shifters and rear d'er XT front d'er Avid Mech disks, 185mm Mavix EX823 UST rims, Hugi FR hubs Hussefelt cranks Blackspire SuperPro / stainless rings 22/32 RaceFace ring guard FSA Platinum Team DH bottom brkt, 118mm Crank Bros Mallet M pedals Thompson post Titec Knucklehead 60mm stem Titec HellBent bars and most important, ODI Lock-on grips!
Weight ~ 35 lbs.
| | Bottom Line: | This bike took me from a trail rider to an AM / FR rider. I am priviledged to ride (all the time) with some of the most outstanding FR / DH talant, so I'm ALWAYS pushing my abilities, landing wrong, falling hard, slamming rocks... and this bike has not yet broken! Keep in mind, I'm chasing expert riders who are ALL on $$$ bikes w/ double crown forks!
The ride quality, as it is set up (see above) is quite good, esp. for agressive trail riding. For the FR stuff I'm doing, it needs a longer fork - 150mm Z1 would be ideal.
It is not a 4 bar or parallel link suspension, so it is limited, but the thing is built way tough. I do not think there is a better frame on an $800 bike.
Haro as a company redieves an F from me. Their customer service is the worst I have ever deal with in any business in my entire life, and on that merit alone, would never buy another Haro bike. So if you get one, get it from a deal who is known for excellent customer service! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$850.00 | | Purchased At: | cycopath, temecula, ca | | Strengths: | nice design in the frame and swing arm. rear takes in the hits and bumps, but does not bounce when you pedel hard. the rear sock's rebound ajustability is a definet plus and keeps you from pogo hopping of a landing. good welds through out, definetly a heavy duty frame. with those 2.35 kenda tires you have some meat gripping the earth. tuff tire they could take a beating. the haro freeride seat was build to last and take falls. you don't have to worry about trashing that puppy. the mechanical disc brakes are a nice touch, smooth and relayable. work well in wet conditions. cranks are also beefy and are able to withold hard hit. this bike is good for both free riding and crosscountry if you don't mind the extra weight. | | Weaknesses: | bike is a bit on the heavy side. weighing in at 35+ LBS. some low end components, but they do their job. i was suprised to learn the cassette weighed in at almost 500 grams. thats alot considering you can cut that weight down by half. the forks lack rebound ajustability, a feature no bike should be with out. tires, hum....well funny thing about tires sometimes it's strength is it's weakness. the tires haro put on this bike grip very well, which is a good thing, but not for your wallet. see being that they grip so well means that they wear down faster then normal. i got three trips to big bear mountain this pass summer on those tires. thats about 14 to 16 hours or 70 to 80 miles on a set of tires. | | Similar Products Used: | trek fuel 80, specilized rockhopper fsr xc | | Bike Setup: | high inpack carbon bars, bar ends and seat post, soft ATV rubber grips, SPD M545 pedels, 8 inch front rotor, xtr deraileurs and cassette, racing ralph tires, | | Bottom Line: | bottom line this is a great bike for those out there who like to mix a little cross country with a little freeriding. i replaced some of the low end components and saved myself 4 LBS. i could probably save some more weight, but that would really get expensive. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$750.00 | | Purchased At: | Beckett's Bikes | | Strengths: | Stiff truvativ bars, deore rear derailleur, price, army green paint(almost gone from most dealers), and everything not mentioned in the weaknesses section. | | Weaknesses: | Bottom brackett is not sealed so it gets dirt in it and squeaks, shifters get in the way of grips (can be fixed by moving shifters down bars), weight if you care (I don't). | | Similar Products Used: | bike from target | | Bike Setup: | fully stock so far | | Bottom Line: | for 750 dollars this thing can't be beat, with a longer travel fork this would be a good freeride bike and as is it's a fairly good trail bike. It has decent parts and shifts well and is just all around good. High standover though, beware. The front fork is recomended to be changed after purchase. I bent my stem on the MZ comp and it's not under warranty. The crankarm also is a good idea to change if you dont want it to bend.

$800.00 | | Purchased At: | flagstaff bicycle and fitnesse | | Strengths: | great bike for the money you get the double boingy, disc brakes, and FAT tires. the bike handles really well in the rough and steep stuff . Took a little time gatting used to climbing on the haro never had so much travel before. I don't jump much so I don't think I'll be bottoming out the rear shox. Very sticky tires. | | Weaknesses: | Cheap wheels The spokes started loosening up after the second ride. Lucky I had A set of disc compatible Rhyno lites on my old bike. The front triangle seems to have no clear coat on it, as it's getting scratched easily. It being alum makes me worry. I'll probably end up electric taping up as much of the frame as possible. Haro could also have done 8 more inches of welding on the inner side of the shock mounts on the down tube. the gusseting the gusseting at the top of the down tube where it meets the head tube could have used some fusing. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized full boingy from the early 90's | | Bike Setup: | Stock except for the Rhyno Lite rims, Ouray grips, Shimano clipless ped,and the titanium railed WTB saddle.(yes i'm proud of the only titanium part I've ever owned on my bike) | | Bottom Line: | Very great bike for $800.00 .Very stable going down or up hills. The wheels are junk though. replace immediately with stronger rims and save the Alec rims for a beater bike.Ten years ago for 8 bigs one I ended up getting a ridgid alum bike with 1.9 tires and flat bars, now things are more cushy and comfy. Things are getting better. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

After giving the disc brakes time to break in, the really do work quite well. I really like the tires. | | Weaknesses: | The fork is okay, but it seems more x-country oriented while I do big drops, so I would have prefered something like a Dirt Jump 2 or 3 fork. | | Similar Products Used: | I rode a 2004 Kona Stinky at snowshoe mountian for 4 hours. | | Bike Setup: | All stock. In the future I would like to get some 8 inch hydrualic discs, a dirt jump 2 fork and a fox vanilla rc rear shock, but that will take alot of lawns to mow to get that!! | | Bottom Line: | Great bike for the money, I would have liked to have a Kona Stab Surpreme, but I am just 14 so having a 5000 dollar bike is out of the question. $650.00 | | Purchased At: | The Bike Shop, Manchester, CT | | Strengths: | price, frame. | | Weaknesses: | weight, cheap forks | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized 2000 fsr xc | | Bike Setup: | stock exept answer carbon bars, wtb tires and saddle, time ATAC pedals. | | Bottom Line: | This is a second review. The bikes' suspension is starting to loosen up a bit and ride smoother, still not close to my FSR XC, but getting better. It does track real well going fast on down hills. It is a pretty big bike. I do find my self blowing over things that would have made me nervous with the FSR XC. It is longer and heavier. I can see where the extar weight can be an advantage when plowing down a rough, rocky single track. I am still adjusting to climbing with this beast. But overall, It is a great bike for the $$$ I have pounded on it relentlessly at case mountain for about 12 rides now, and the bike is holding up great. Love the disc breakes. And I really like the ergonomics of the bike very much. I am 5'9' tall and am riding a small, but it feels great, I am not stretching for the bars at all.
If you are looking for a great priced full suspension bike to start out with, or as a more seasoned rider , want something that you can pound on with out losing sleep over scratching it, this is a great bike . The front fork seems a little harsh, but it is a lower end fork, but should loosen up a bit. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$650.00 | | Purchased At: | The Bike Shop, Manchester, CT | | Strengths: | price, great frame, travel, hates disc brakes | | Weaknesses: | components not the greatest, but decent for the price. | | Similar Products Used: | 2000 Specialized FSR-XC with Betd link/bearing kit, with answer carbon bars. | | Bike Setup: | Stock so far except, WTB speed V saddle, WTB tires, and Time ATAC pedals | | Bottom Line: | I am a bike fanatic. Just got married and buying a house. I am using the FSR with 100psi tires for a commuter, ( i know FS is overkill), because the rodas are terrible here, and in my older age I don't want to feel the bumps. I wanted a fs disc bike for offroad. For now until I can build my dream bike this is good. I rode a friends x1 and was impressed, so much that when the lbs had a sale on the x1, i went for it.
The frist couple rides, it is apparent that it does not ride no where near as smooth as my FSR, which climbs better and rides better, however, I am told that after some time on the bike, the suspension does loosen up a bit and much smoother ride results. I hope so. The rear end seems decent, but the forks seem extremely harsh, and you feel every bump. Myabe it is just a different feel over a air shock. It does seem to track real well as I "opened it up" a bit on a fast downhill. It seemed the faster I went , the more stable it felt. the bike feels like a chopper compared to the FSR. It is heavier, but it is not a problem for me though. I am 165 lbs. My frind is 6'2" 190lbs and has had his since March 2004, and has not broken anything yet, and we have pounded the ultra rocky terrain of case mtn.
Overall, not my $4800 dream bike, but a real decent machine for the price, and for my budget right now. A well built frame. Maybe some suspension upgrades in near future will make this a real decent bike. I would encourage anyone lookinf for a fs bike at a great price to check it out.

$800.00 | | Strengths: | Good price for what you get overall. Good geometry, won't kill you on the climbs. I wouldn't say weight is a problem, 35 pounds, if that is too much for you then i don't know what to tell you. | | Weaknesses: | Its not a big hit bike, or as "extreme" as haro makes it seem. And i think the name extreme is lame. Also, moving the shock into the 2 positions can be extremely difficult, the width of the space where the end of the shock has to go is quite a bit smaller in the 5 inch position, this can be extremely frustrating and could result in other parts of the bike being broken or hurting yourself if you are using force. Mabye its just my bike, or others, either way its a major design flaw, i just leave it in the 6 inch position anyways. Thats my only big problem with the bike. | | Similar Products Used: | First FS | | Bike Setup: | Stock, size M | | Bottom Line: | Great bike for the price, i think it would be worth it to upgrade fork and shock eventually. I wouldn't buy it has a big hit bike, but that would be obvious once you see it. If you're smoothe and don't rely on your suspension then you can do pretty much whatever you want with it as any other bike. If you can figure out a way to safely switch shock positions working on the bike is fairly straightforward. Bottom line is that its a good do-it-all bike and great for the value. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from San Francisco, CA Date Reviewed: February 18, 2004 | | Duration Product Used: | Tested or demo'ed only | | Strengths: | Nice & supple ride, surprisingly plush. Amazing what $800 gets you these days. | | Weaknesses: | High standover. | | Similar Products Used: | Bullit, K2 brass monkey (hardtail) | | Bike Setup: | Stock | | Bottom Line: | Took this bike on a day ride as a bike shop rental & wasn't expecting much. It handled some pretty technical stuff with surprising ease, such as babyhead rocky single track, step ups and twisty downhills. The fork was decent and tracked well -- I'd say on par with my psylo -- and the rear hooked up on or off the saddle, with the possible exception of getting bogged down on the uphill transitions of dips & gullies. The little fire road climbing I did wasn't even that painful. Components: decent performance, even from the brakes. There's no comparing the X1 to a more sophisticated duallie, but for the price bracket I'd say it was pretty darn good. The one major complaint is the high standover: the bike feels really tall (I'm 6'1" and was riding a medium!) so steep stuff with the seat all the way down was pretty sketchy, particularly after stopping (NOT good on scary, unfamiliar terrain). For an entry level bike, it's a pretty good pick, but I'd shop around & test first to make sure the fit is right. Great value, OK ride quality. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
