Strengths:I have the 2005 model. The frame is awesome. The front shock gets bad rap, and no I have not been jumping yet but they seem pretty good to me and can adjust individually. The rear shock is awesome. It absorbs alot of impact. I went middle of the road on both shocks, half way in between hard and soft.
Weaknesses:Given this was used Im not sure this happens with all of them but the shifters stick on the right side. The disk brakes rub a tad but its not a huge deal. Chain makes a pretty good amount of noise when drops or jumps come in.
Similar Products Used:I have not had any similar products given this is my first full suspension.
Bike Setup:The bike is stock except alex rims and truvativ handlebars which came when i BOUGHT IT USED.
Bottom Line:The bottom line is this is a great bike. If you can find a deal like I got it, dont think, just buy. It feels very nice to ride and is very smooth. The suspension I would give a 7 out of 10 but hey for stock thats pretty good and everything else is great.

Strengths:Its my first full suspencion bike. For what I do,mainly riding to and from my job, going to school, and doing about 10 miles on weekends when I can get to Sedona Its an awsome bike. The rear adjustable suspencion,Shimmano deraillers, and my 1.5 in. Kenda Negevals are some of the best I have ever used. The brakes are ok for what I bought it for (when I bought the bike it was used as a rental bike for 1 year)
Weaknesses:The crank, the seat post, and the pedals(I have stock clipless pedals so the only way to keep grip is the quarter inch spikes on each side, and yes I slip pedals and have the scars to prove it!)the paint job(because it was a rental it has manny a scar and chip in the paint and it takes forever for me to get the mud and dirt out)
Similar Products Used:none
Bike Setup:Full Stock
Bottom Line:I love the bike but I hate some of the parts. I have been wanting to upgrade several things...everything from the crank to the stem and then my bike shop stopped selling Hro's and couldent guarentee any work. This a great beginner bike and I have loved it and worked it hard over some pretty crazy terrain.I am also on a limited budget and I cant really buy all the parts I want to right now so I have to live with the stock parts which I have had trouble with anyway! In English: If your like me buy the bike NEW, not used( it may cost a hundred more bucks but that product warrenty is worth it!)And have some fun with it just you have to be careful on stock tires and tubes (I've had to replace my tube five times in six and a half months)

Purchased At:Carolina Fatz Bike Shop
Strengths:Great bike for the money, good suspension travel for beginner freeriders or aggressive trail riders. Pretty strong too.
Weaknesses:Components are not the best but again its a beginner bike. Also front shock is terrible it has to be the stiffest shock i have ever ridden.
Similar Products Used:None its my first pro bike
Bike Setup:stock except for azonic love seat, manitou black fork and shorter freeride stem. (and tons of Carolina Fatz stickers!)
Bottom Line:If you are just getting into mt. biking and are wanting to spend less than a thousand dollars on a good strong bike for anything from cross country to dual slalom this is the bike for you. Just definetely save some money for a front fork.

Strengths:Adjustable Fox Shock, great gearing tires & Rims. Decent components.
Weaknesses:Front Shock & Breaks
Bike Setup:Replaced seat, put on clipin pedals & changed the brakes to the AVID mechanical disc brakes (What a difference)
Bottom Line:For what I paid this is an awesome bike. I recommend it to anyone starting out or who does not want to spend a fortune on a full suspension. I use on a nice 8-10 mile ride about 2-3 times a week with an 800 foot climb in under a mile and some great down hill single track (not too technical). On the weekends I'll take it out for either longer rides (40 miles), or some more technical terrain. I don't do a lot of big air, but do go over loads of rocks, rough trails and water crossings, haven't broken anything on it yet and it's just plain solid. First thing I did was upgrade the brakes though, those quad 4 disc brakes are down right scary doing anything that has a slope on it and should be the first thing to go. Soon I will need to replace the front shock, I have increased the load adjuster to maximum and it still seems to sag too much. The rear shock needs some careful adjustment, but is easy to adjust. It can get kind of bouncy and has unexpectedly sprung my back end up when I had the dampener turned down. Turn up the dampener to max and it’s almost like a hard tail, great for climbing hills.

Strengths:Frame is great and strong.
Weaknesses:I have bottomed out on the forks,Looking to get some JR-Ts
or something with a triple crown.Anyone have any thoughts of me putting on a set of triple crown on a Haro X-1.
Another weakness is the crank I upgraded that not long after I bought it.
Similar Products Used:I think the kona coiler,or stinky will give you about the same ride. The Haro is a little lighter than the stinky and
is not bad going up hill, And is just as strong.
I have done 7 foot drops on my Haro X-1 and have all the confidence in it (remember upgrade the forks they suck)
Bike Setup:Just went up two steps better on crank set.
Am thinking about trile crown forks.
I will let you know when I get them.
Bottom Line:Bottom line is for the price I paid it is a good bike,

Strengths:Great strong bike that hold up to some abuse (7-8 foot drops) but I probably shound not have done that. It has not broke on its own yet(I do all the damage)
Weaknesses:I busted some of the threds on the rear shock going off a jump (about 8-9 feet of air and i regret doing that now cause i cant ajust the shock and it is permanently tight.

Purchased At:Tempe Bicycle
Strengths:Great bang for the buck. I waited quite a long time to get into a full-suspension bike and I'm very glad that I did at the right price with the Haro Extreme X1. It has great suspension travel & adjustability, big 26" x 2.135 Maxxis tires, a great frame and is forgiving and easy to ride.
Weaknesses:Brakes take some time to slow you down. This is a bit unnerving when you're going downhill fast or approaching a turn, but its not the end of the world - Just have to apply the front brake a little sooner and harder than you normally would with vee brakes. I hope changing pads to metallic ones will help, otherwise I'll get aftermarket brakes installed. The front derailuer isn't working the best, but that might need some tweaking and maybe it'll be fine.
Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:Bone stock.
Bottom Line:Excellent entry-level full-suspension bike for someone who needs a step up in technology before tackling those trails that were inaccessible to them because riding them with a hardtail and 1 1/2" front suspension travel wasn't working out.

Weaknesses:The service reps and the store I bouhgt it from. Tempe Bikes has not been helpfull at all. Having a problem with the drive train, but it is fixable.
Bike Setup:Continental survial rear tire, replacing the rims, taco'ed the front. Replacing the springs in the forks.
Bottom Line:This is a great value. It is tough and cheap. There are some weak points, but the frame definatly isnt it. Answer 6 forks came on miune, and I think I will need to do something about them. The brakes are great if you adjust them tight. This bike has gotten me home when others would have disinigrated.

Strengths:Looks cool, gives you a lot of practice fixing all the things that break on it.
Weaknesses:My frame cracked at the pivot point for the rear suspension. Trust me I'm not the only one. Just look at the rest of the reviews, you'll see other people had the same problem. Very heavy, crank and frame don't last very long, disc brakes have no torgue compared to good v caliper ones. Drink holder is on underside of bike, so if you ride through rough terrain make sure you've got a bunch of spares at home, you'll need them. Special bracket to mount rear derailleur to frame, if you snap that you need to order another one.
Bike Setup:All the same except with deore xt rear derailleur, better seat, GPS bracket on handlebars.
Bottom Line:If you don't do much hard biking and just want to look cool, go ahead and buy it. Why you would want disc brakes and full suspension for light biking is beyond me. If you want to ride it hard, wear a good jock strap, because when you need this bike the most the frame will snap and grind your nutsack into the ground going down a rocky hill at 50km/h. This bike is good if you plan on buying a new one every 2 years.

Strengths:This bike has many strengths...The frame is good enough for downhilling and better than most DH frames, the MAXXIS tires are good, and it looks cool for one.
Weaknesses:Well, the copenents aren't the greatest, the whole chain system is pretty bad, fork, most of the copenents on there are from the HARO company.
Similar Products Used:Haro X2 and X3.
Bike Setup:I changed most of the things on the bike... heres the setup... Haro X1 frame, 2002 Marzocchi JR T. Pros, MiniMe MRP Chainguide, 2004 Sun Ringle R.P.M. XXL Wheelset, and I am still going to add some more copenents to the bike to make it better.
Bottom Line:This bike is amzing for the price of it. If you think your going to do dirt jumping, freeriding, or downhilling still get the bike and add more things and make it better like I did. And if you're going to put on a DH fork bring it to the place because it will not fit right unless you know about HARO bikes.

Bottom Line:This is an awsome bike for the money. The tires are beefy and will keep the bike glued to the ground on tough climbs. The back shock is totally awsome because it has some dampening on it. I use this bike for uphill, downhill, and everything in between. This bike is a great deal for the price. The only weeknesses I've found are the fork which is dangerous and should be replaced immediately and the quad disk brakes squeek a little, but for the price, I can't complain. + you also get a deor rear derailer which gets the job done. Bye this bike, even in spite of the fork. You can't go wrong with the price.

Bike Setup:Avid front brakes. Redesigned front shock that Haro sent me because of their one year warranty.

Strengths:I liked the design overall. The suspension design worked well. I never had a problem with the Deore components. Price.
Weaknesses:Front forks! It was a little heavy. The breaks froze up eventually.
Similar Products Used:Schwinn Rocket 1. My present bike.
Bottom Line:This was an OK bike for most of a year. I put about 800 miles of heavy trail use on the bike. I never did any drops on this bike. The front shocks ultimately lead to me giving the bike up. The Manitou Six could not hold up to my riding. They became sloppy and the first set finally broke. Manitou replaced them with an equivalant and they did the same thing. Finally the shop took the bike back and gave me a full refund. They said it was not designed for the amount of riding that I did on it. I feel like if it was upgraded to a better fork and maybe a better rear suspension it would have been fine. They just weren't willing to do that. It was a fun bike while it lasted but it would probably do best for riders of smooth trails.

I think the brakes would have eventually given me serious trouble and I would have upgraded to Hayes eventually.

Haro has upgraded the bike and made it much stronger for 2004 but it is also very heavy. It is more of a downhill bike than the 2003.

Favorite Trail:Riverfront Park trail
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $600.00
Purchased At:Erik's Bike Shop
Strengths:My X1 came in a silver/red finish which I thought was quite attractive. The included tires worked quite well for most surfaces I rode on - especially snow.
Weaknesses:The OE Manitou Six fork is not very good. There is a lot of sticking during compression/rebound and on occasion, the fork froze up and did not compress no matter how hard I pushed on it. The Quad disc brakes took a bit longer than I expected to wear into their pads and braking power is decent. Don't get the brakes wet as they lose a lot of stopping power and make a loud squealing noise. Also, the bike is a tad on the heavy side.
Similar Products Used:Raleigh M80
Bike Setup:Marzocchi MX Comp w/ETA, Magura Julie disc brakes front/rear
Bottom Line:The only parts I was unhappy with are the fork and brakes. I have switched to a set of Magura Julies and a Marzocchi fork, which makes my bike and me much happier. To be honest, for the amount of money I spent replacing the aforementioned parts, I could have bought an X2. However, it is fun to hop-up a bike and watch it evolve as time goes on. The tires worked great for me since I live in an area where snow is present about 5 months out of the year. Just lower the pressure down to around 25 PSI and the tread bites deeply into hardpack giving excellent traction. Running on a hard, dry surface is a different story. The tread is too widely spaced and knobby which results in a humming/vibrating ride. Overall, being a college student with limited funds, I feel the X1 is a good bike for the money, despite the crappy fork and marginal brakes (you get what you pay for). However, the frame is a keeper and will continue to be the focal point of more upgrades down the road.

Strengths:Tires were half-way decent. Sidewalls were extremely thin, almost like rags. Probably good tires if youre an XC rider for weight issues and tread pattern. Handlebars never broke, even through some harsh crashes and riding, also I'm a bigger guy.
Weaknesses:Rear shock blew out, broke bottom bracket, snapped left crankarm, cracked stem, rims bent easily, broke swingarm on welded area, frame cracked by pivot point, broke fork....
Similar Products Used:Haro Escape X-2 (much better so far)
Bike Setup:Came with X-fusion rear shock, Truvativ 5d cranks, Alex rims, Manitou Six fork, Haro stock stem and handlebars.
Bottom Line:If you're someone who wants a great bike for XC, consider this bike, BUT if you're doing ANY kind of jumping, downhill, freeride, urban assault or anything which makes your bike come 2 or more feet off of the ground, THIS IS NOT A GOOD BIKE AT ALL!!! It was nothing but trouble, I ended up build the bike all over again from the ground up, not because I wanted to, but because the parts broke, bent, or failed. I was one of those people who have an extremely limited budget, but should've waited even longer and got a real bike.

Strengths:Good frame and most components
Weaknesses:Brakes and forks
Bike Setup:Marzocchi bomber mx pro... Will be changing to hydraulic discs soon - stock otherwise.
Bottom Line:A great bike for the price - rides well and most stock items work well. Good shifting, rear shock seems to do the job, etc., but get rid of the manatu forks and the quad discs a.s.a.p. With the slop in the manitu forks, I never could keep the quad discs adjusted. The forks are dangerous, do not respond, and have so much striction that they never came all the way back to the top. Also, get dual piston discs so there is no need for the rotor to flex and wear the pads unevenly. The overall rating is mainly due to the front forks. Do yourself a favor and have your bike shop order it with upgraded forks at the least.

Bottom Line:I was in this shop checking on the latest info on the 04 bikes comming in and they still had an x1 and an x3. So for fun I took out both of them, the x3 was spec'ed better but pretty small for me so I took the x1 out too. Granted it was just a parking lot test, thought there is a two and a half foot drop from the loading bay in back of the shop so I did at least get to feel how it is in the air briefly. But the quick and dirty is these bikes are really sweet for the cash. I felt way more confident droping with this bike than my XC bike that I love.

A Bullet with the same parts spec would run you about four times as much!!! Now I grant you that the Bullit frame is much better, but for the cash you just can't go wrong in getting a decent entry level drop/play bike. What would really be cool to do is to take a decently spec'ed bullit, and then take an extremem frame and build it up with the exact same parts spec down the the shock and all and then do a comparo between the two! It would be really interesting to see how much the parts spec has to do with how the bikes handle and feel.

And the 04 models with the hydro top tubes and integrated head sets and redone rear shock mounts should be even better!!

This is deffinitly a great bike for the money in it's niche

Strengths:Overall, the components on this bike are good for the money. The front fork issues everyone is complaining about was the result of a manufacturers shipping defect. For about six months people were getting weakened forks because they were shipped/packed wrong. This is no longer a problem.
Weaknesses:What caused me to avoid buying this bike was the fact that there is no good place to put a water bottle. There is only one place for a bottle and that is on the bottom where mud will cover the bottle. Bad design here. Most of my rides are one or two bottle rides, and with this bike, I would be forced to use a camel bak all the time. Not good.

Bottom Line:This bike is pretty awsome. I know it's cheap but it handles well even though it's heavy. The tires are a little much and somethings flexing up front. The brakes take a while but end up working well. My freaking fork snapped-there should be a recall. Believe it or not I highly recommend this bike, it's a lot of fun. Just take my advice and sell your fork when you get it and get something better. At least it's consistent lol. God bless

Strengths:Well built with decent parts. This bike seems to ride and handle well beyond the price of the bike
Weaknesses:Manitou Six is a poor fork. Way too much stiction. What happened to the grease ports that the manual claims that are on this shock so it can be greased to help with the stiction problem?

Bike Setup:Stock......except for the XT rear derailer, Woodman 50 mm stem, SDG saddle, BlackSpire bash ring and Marzochi DJ II fork.
Bottom Line:It didn't take long to decide the stock fork had to go. Since I got a good price on the bike I didn't mind spending the extra money. The X-Fusion shock has been a pleasant surprise. I wouldn't have had it as my first choice, but it has proven to be a very good performer. The other changes I made were parts from my spare stuff laying around the house. The ride and handling of the bike are great and I'm a big boy at 250 lbs. The Quad mech. disc brakes took a while to come around, but after break-in they perform just fine. I had expected a lot of pedal induced bobbing with this long travel setup...so far I have been shocked at how low the bob is. The bike climbs good for a heavy dual suspension bike. The ride is very plush. This makes for a good rough trail cross-country bike. I wouldn't recommend it to a hucker, however; if you are looking for a good bike for the nastier trails that won't put you in the poor house this is a bike worth considering. I like mine! Four chilis would have been 5 with a better fork. 3 for overall is no 'dis'. The bike is what the bike is....a good value. It's not the best, nor is it the worst; it's just a good solid value. Today that is hard to find. Thanks Haro!!

Duration Product Used:Tested or demo'ed only
Strengths:Good parts spec for the price . The feel of the bike gives confidence . Doesn't feel heavy .
Weaknesses:Only grievance is that the fork kind of sticks a little when it rebounds . It would probably end after it's been worn in , or maybe adjusted right . It doesn't really effect the way the bike will handle though .
Similar Products Used:Never used a full squish before .
Bike Setup:x-fusion rear (rebound adjust) , manitou six super , go to the haro website for specs harobikes.com
Bottom Line:Tested in parking lot yesterday . Like the feel of it , I'm 5'6' and it was a 17.5" frame , I would need a 15.5" . Little curb drops were fine , don't know how it would handle a 4 footer or jumps , but it seemed beefy enough and the suspension was set up good . Seems like it would be able to take some good urban thrashings and drops under 5 foot . It's not an xc race bike , maybe an xc bike that can take a beating though . My cus is gettin' that bike , that's why I tried it . I'm gettin' an x2 , so we'll match and be stupid . We ride tech. singletrack and small Florida freeride along with some urban , and both of us liked it . Like I said , he's getting an x1 and I'm getting the x2 .

Strengths:Great bike for the price, lots of travel.
Weaknesses:The forks
Similar Products Used:Hardtails only
Bike Setup:Answer forks, truvative cranks, X-fusion rear shock.
Bottom Line:If you decide on this bike, expect to upgrade the stock forks. Mine broke after 1 week of riding, which I then upgraded to a Marzocchi DJ III, which is great. Or do the next best thing and buy the X-2 or X-1. But overall great bike for the price.
