Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $300.00
Purchased At:ski market
Strengths:frame, bars, 14mm axles, pedals, spindle, cranks, bar ends, light weight pegs, chain tensor weight is decent
Weaknesses:seat and seatpost are wayyyy too heavy. stem is also heavy. stock sprocket is big and weak. stock chain is pretty bad. THE BOLTS THAT HOLD THE CRANKS TO THE SPINDLE CAN LOOSEN ON BUMPY DIRT! stock stem slips a little bit. stock lever is weak and akward. stock grips are crappy. stock brakes don't stick to the stock black rim, especially when it's dusty. the freewheel in the back sticks really bad if it's not cleaned on a regular basis. giro cause nothing but problems.

front fork is heavyyyyyyyyyyy
Bike Setup:mosh short grips
cut down haro slim bars (stock) but i cut them down about 1.15 inches on both sides
dirt harry lever (unbreakable)
oddessy long cable. (GET RID OF THE GIRO)
mosh stem w/ titanium bolts
primo 36T sprocket (it's heavy but very strong)
wal-mart chain (their cheap and fairly strong)
cut 5.5 inches off seat post and saved like 6 pounds. haha
GT 2001 lightweight racing seat
kenda tires: kutless and kovert

Bottom Line:good for the money. if your not just riding to school or to a friends house and you accually ride bmx, you might want to replace some minor parts. i listen them above.
>>if your concerned about weight, you need to either cut the seatpost or get a new one. the seat is heavy and is just for comfort. and the front forks are lead. haha
their made for durability and with the 14mm dropouts the wheels is heavy too. the frame is very strong and not too heavy.

Weaknesses:If you like to fly high in the air and perform all of those super human type stuff, this bike is not for you.But if you are ready to tear up the streets, get this bike .I hate the rims, the brake levers, the left side crank, and the seat.

Bike Setup:i always worked on my bikes ever since i was a boy until now.I threw on some ARaya double wall 4x4 chrome 36 spoke wheels SWEET
I threw on lhe latest animal tires.SWEET
I changed the cables to some odyssey linear click cables.
I put the crank on the right hand side.
I changed the brake levers.
I put some shadow conspiracy seat.
I had this bike set up for freestyle with 4 pegs and the front brake set up. I recently took every thing off except the back peg because it takes too much time, devotion, balance and fustration. YEs it is nice to do flatlands but i find it much easier to just get on my bike and hit the streets or a local park. i think i will do a decade when i am 90 years old or something.lol
Bottom Line:Bottom line is if you are fresh to the bicycle game, get you a strong frame. This bike rocks at everything.

Strengths:The entire bike is incredibly strong. This bike has been droped all over the concrete and smashed into walls and grinded on so many hard stone surfaces and it's still solid and makes no sound as if it were brand new....i don't get it. And the frame with or without the stickers looks beautiful.
Bottom Line:If your serious about riding and you know your gonna stick to biking then buy the bike. It's probably the last bike you will need unless, somewhere along the line you want a different image. It's strong as hell and that blue frame is gorgeous. Just writing about it makes me wanna go out and ride right now.... and i'm gonna do so.

Strengths:comprehensive parts list, everything i wanted except for front brakes...Oh yeah CRANK ON THE LEFT SIDE from the shop!! luv it....and the hedset is ready for front brakes
Weaknesses:no front brakes, no brake mounts on fork, weak brakes, (i had V-brakes on my last)
Similar Products Used:haro f4, haro si (dirt jumping)
Bike Setup:umm.. lighter seatpost, new seat, new grips, trying to find a new fork with 990 mounts and a brake system for it, and ill eventually chnage the rims and hubs out, but no rush on that
Bottom Line:So I had another bike that i had built up and it was just too trashed...this was a great alternative to bulding a new bike from scratch considering i wanted to move up to 14mm axles...And i if i decide to buy a new frame down the line, ill use almost all the parts from this bike. I thought I would end up putting a lot more from my old bike onto this one, but all the components are of a good quality and the bike feels really complete. Its a proper setup if ur starting out and/or are serious about riding, ive been takin it to the street/park on weekdays and to the trails on weekends. feels great both in the air and on transitions...im luvin it!

Date Reviewed: May 9, 2003
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:The Bike Peddler
Strengths:The frame is really the only strength.
Weaknesses:The crank is one of the worst weeknesses on the bike. After riding it for about 8-9 months only on the weekends the crank arm snapped on me. Luckily it was still warrantied by Haro. The freewheel is not that great. It only comes with cheap alex single wall rims.
Bike Setup:Completely new drivetrain because the last TWO have been broke. New FSA headset and new atomlab trailking cassette wheels.
Bottom Line:This is a great bike for a person that does not go that big. If you don't go big, this bike is perfect for you and you will not break things like I have. Other than that everything is great. Even though I have replaced what I have I still like the bike.

Bottom Line:This is a great light street bike that can be converted to left side drive for riders that grind on the right side.It is also great for street riders that do not use front brakes. This bike is for "real street riders" that are dedicated to bmx and ride consistently. If you don't ride bmx and only want a bike to ride around town, then I suggest that you don't waste your time and money and get yourself a Huffy.

Date Reviewed: March 25, 2003
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $380.00
Purchased At:Penn Cycle-Lake & Lyndale in MPLS
Strengths:EVERYTHING!!!
Weaknesses:THe only weakness is...boy I can't think of anything!
Bike Setup:STOCK, raw finish (clear-coated steel) (very cool!!!)
Bottom Line:The bottom line is this: the Haro Function F5 is a great bike for your money. The guy at the place I got it from said if I broke it, I would be in the hospital. I took his word for it and tried something stupid today. (I took it home lastnight!) Anyway, I built this jump that is about 20 inches high (I am used to 10 inches) out of a piece of 4' by 8' plywood and a few buckets. It held out, and so did the bike, but I didn't. I broke my own rule of NOT THINKING WHEN I AM AT THE TOP OF THE RAMP!! I thought about if I want to do this or not, while I was going about 15 mph and just about to launch. Of course this messed my whole jump up. Anyway, I launched myself, landed on a completely vertical 90 degree wheelie, and went over backwards. I looked the bike over and it was perfect, then I looked at my leg and that was a different story...I got it on tape, though!!! Anyway, like I said before, the bike rules, and it is the best value for anybody over 150 lbs. I especially like the huge axles and the 'tripple whatever' pedals. retailing for about $180 alone, and they come stock on the bike! I also like the rap tires that take 65 pounds of pressure each. Even though I have had this bike for 1 day, (I got it on 3-25-03) I can tell that this thing will last for a very long time!!

Weaknesses:brake is a little slow to react when your haulin' as#.
Similar Products Used:shredder
Bike Setup:rear Tektro brake, kneesaver handlebars, Rap tires, geometry frame etc.
Bottom Line:Well worth the price. I'ts a great bike for those of you out there just getting into Bmx because of it's versatilaty. It's got quality parts that come with warranty (I don't think I need it though). Strong, I have been torturing it at the park and basketball court near my house and while some of the paint has been ravaged, everythng else has held up excellently. The only qualm I have with this bike is it's weight. I enjoy Flatland and it's hard to do tailwhips because of the junk in the trunk. If Flatland is your thing you should put out the extra scratch and get an M7 or build from scratch, but if your into dirt or park than this is your bike. For the money it's a steal.

Strengths:Great cranks, Spider Lite pegs, great frame, light weight
Weaknesses:Seat post is a bit heavy
Similar Products Used:Shredder
Bike Setup:Stock
Bottom Line:This thing rules over the shredder. But then, the F5 uses the same frame as the shredder. It's just a name change and the F5 is a lighter bike with tubular crmo cranks instead of those stupid heavy cast steel cranks on the Shredder. The F5 also has the light weight alloy/steel pegs. The F5 is 4 pounds lighter than the Shredder. It rules!
