When I first started to take up century rides I was ill prepared for the nutritional needs they require. My first couple of centuries I bonked around the 80-90 mile mark. After that I started searching around and comparing what was out there. I tried a few different things starting with cliff bars and a few energy drinks here and there. I asked around at the forums here and at roadbikereview.com and Hammer products where highly, highly, recommended. On my next century I had some Hammer Gels and Perpetuem. I did not bonk....finally. I also hadn't done more than maybe a month, month and half, of riding between my last century when I bonked and this one when I didn't.
I was tired at the end. I felt fatigue. I knew I had worked out. There was no sudden burst of energy or any feeling of additional energy. I was simply able to keep riding, turning the pedals to the end with a fairly consistant effort. And it is this that I think is what makes Hammer products so great. They don't add to the effort. They don't make things better, faster, and stronger Rather, they give the fuel your body needs and as long as you're willing to put in the effort, you'll achieve what you set out to do. Simply put, in order to actually get better, faster, and stronger, you need to put in the time, miles, and effort. This allows you to do that if you're so inclined.

Perpetum is a product from E-Caps that is very unique. I had tried other powders that were for extreme exercises and none matched the "power-pool" that I have with Perpetum. I think one of the best things about this product is that it can buffer lactic acid that builds with long endurance training and racing. It has a great subtle taste and it can also be mixed with other E-Caps products. It also is part of the E-Caps philosophy in that it contains no simple sugars so it will not spike your insulin levels which mean no more "highs and lows".

Strengths:
complete nutritional profile with carb, protein, fats, and electrolytes. useful for long distance training racing (2h+). I use this product for races and training workouts that are greater than or equal to 3-4h. stable source of energy that will keep you going all day. useful at a variety of concentrations (1x, muti-hour bottle concentrate, or as a paste in a gel flask). using this product in concentrated form allows one to only depend on sources of water for the duration of the workout/race.
Weaknesses:
this product is not intended for short workouts/races or very high intensity efforts. useful for long aerobic efforts.
Similar Products Used:
Sustained Energy, Hammer gel, various other brand gels, energy bars, etc.
Bike Setup:
at 1x mix as many bottles as you can carry. with a multi-hour bottle mix to desired concentration in a bottle and use with sources of water. with paste form carry in a gel flask, stored on bike mount or jersey pocket, and only need water.
Bottom Line:
This is a great product that will keep you going as long as you want. Use it for the long stuff and watch your energy levels stabilize resulting in increased performance. This is the best product of its kind that I have used and it continues to be a staple of my nutritional profile.

Strengths:
Perpetuem's greatest strength lies in its effectiveness as a fuel for endurance exercise, it's easily absorbed complex carbs, and its ease of use. I've used Perpetuem as my primary source of calories for numerous long course triathlons (and road races), including the Hawaii Ironman, and nothing could do a better job at supplying the fuel that I need, in an easily absorbed and easily tolerated formula. The quality carbs combined with the small amount of quality proteins to help "save" the muscle from the catabolic effects of long hours of training and racing make it the perfect fuel, in my opinion, for anyone who likes to ride long, or who races long. Just mix it up in the concentration you like and need for that particular day, and off you go. Easy! And, believe it or not, the orange smoothie flavor is a favorite of mine too; even after 5 or more hours on the bike, it still tastes good enough to get down without any issues.
Weaknesses:
None. This fuel rocks!
Similar Products Used:
Sustained Energy, and Hammer Gel. And I've also tried most other similar products on the market in an effort to be sure I was using the best. Nothing compares to Perpetuem.
Bike Setup:
Tri: Airborne X1 TT setup, with DA 10sp. Road: Airborne Thunderbolt, with Ultegra triple 9sp.
Bottom Line:
If your goal is to race and train at your optimal speed/pace without having to worry about getting in enough of the "right" kinds of calories, then Perpetuem should be your FIRST choice. I've used many products over thousands of miles of training and 8 ironman races, and there is simply nothing that works as well as Perpetuem for effectiveness and ease of use. Try it, you'll like it!

Strengths:
RESULTS!!!!!!!! .....consistent fuel, taste, flexibility of mixing...
Weaknesses:
It could mix a little easier, other than that it is awesome!!!
Similar Products Used:
Accelerade, Gatoraid
Bottom Line:
I never thought I would find a better endurance fuel than Sustained Energy (also a Hammer Nutrition product), but Perpetuem proved me wrong. Better taste, even easier on the stomach, and combines perfectly with Endurolytes for extreme conditions. I also enjoy the multiple ways I can mix it for convenient consumption. I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a fuel to take them through long workouts over 1-1/2 hours and wants to feel good during and afterwards.
