I have pretty much converted this bike into a commuter bike (because I usually ride on the street)although all it nees to go trail riding is a change of tires. It sat around for at least 2 full years before I bought it. The original price was aprox. $450. I paid $100+60shipping+30assembly=$190 - a bargain. I have used it for fitness, mostly in my neighborhood and also at the trails of my local park. My bottom line now is - should I continue upgrading the bike or invest in a new one? | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$200.00 | | Purchased At: | My uncle | | Strengths: | Everything! This bike is awesome! Even though it came to me semi-upgraded, its still a low budget higher end bike that will last for a while. Super strong TRIPLE TRIANGLE frame, fine gussets, and good components spec (from what ive read) | | Weaknesses: | Umm, that i cant get it to glimmer anymore. Tisk tisk. And the paint isnt very thick either. | | Similar Products Used: | i dont know, nothing i can think of | | Bike Setup: | Ok, from the front-Mavic/Look rims, blown Jett shock with like, 3 pound springs for maybe 1/4 inch of travel if your light. Stock bars, XT brakes, LX levers, LX shifters, ~frame, frame~ Deore cranks, old Wellgo pedals, some kind of chain, Panaracer Fire XC tires, another Mavic rim...XT cassette, Salsa brake brace, stock seat (so comfy) and thats it. | | Bottom Line: | SWEET frame! I use this for trials and its lasted so long! I bought it from my uncle who used it for trials/freeride, and they bought it from someone too, but its still PERFECT except for scratches. Super strong frame, WICKED LIGHT! I can barely feel it under my feet when im pedal hopping, and it feels perfect off of hard, screwy landings. Oh how I luv it. Could maybe put some more gussets so I could run a bigger fork, but the Rock Sux Jett is soo cool with blown springs and seals in it-its so light and teaches you how to land smooth and light. And the paint-make it thicker! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

The frame is great for climbing and riding wheelies. It is a great starter bike cuz you can upgrade the components and still has a kick ass frame. For the price it is an awesome beginner bike and easily upgradable. It's cool because when you trash the stock components and have to replace them, you learn more about what makes bikes tick and become a more proficient rider overall. $500.00 | | Purchased At: | Stewarts | | Strengths: | Light, Solid, smooth as silk, rugged, DAMN fine looking (chrome ball burnished version), quick as lightning, lovely shimano parts | | Weaknesses: | nasty grips, smaller handles on brakes are a tad annoying, but not overpoweringly so | | Similar Products Used: | Trek, Schwinn | | Bike Setup: | Standard so far | | Bottom Line: | Well people can say what they want about this bike, but it is a DAMN fine buy for around the 500 dollar level. For the people who have reviewed this bike before, complaining about cheap parts and such, why did you buy this bike in the first place if you knew you were going to get cheap parts? why not just buy a more expensive bike with better parts? You get what you pay for, this isnt a professional level bike, its a midrange. There's a reason the bike doesnt have incredible parts on it, its only 500 bucks, not 1500. The seat is a bit harsh, but that can be easily replaced. its MUCH better than the crap that GT used to put on their bikes. Havent gone on a rough trail yet, so I cant really review the shock, but it's fairly smooth, and handles well. Tires, well there again I cant say much, but again you get what you pay for, those who have tacoed their's out probably thought the bike was invincible. Its a 500 dollar bike, not 1500 yet again. Its bound to have lower end rims on it. *shrug* In my opinion its a very VERY solid, VERY smooth ride, WELL worth the money. Dont buy this bike if you are planning on going on some HEAVY offroading unless you upgrade it, but if you want a good starting point to upgrade, or a beautifully solid bike to last you a long time, go for it! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$470.00 | | Strengths: | FRAME: light weight, direct handling BRAKES: almost too powerful! (I'm very light...) LOOKS: Looks like it costs twice as much! | | Weaknesses: | Harsh seat, OE tyres not great, grips are nasty. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Hardrock A1 Comp FS (Tested) | | Bike Setup: | Standard. Haven't had much time to play yet, but bar-ends, better pedals and different tyres are all on the shopping list. | | Bottom Line: | After a break of a few years from mountain biking, I was pleasantly surprised at the price/quality balance available overall, but this bike wins by a long head simply because of that frame! WOW! It's lovely... It's light, stiff and strong, easy to flick the back end up, and looks amazing, too! This is my first time on suspension forks, so don't really know what to compare them too. Better than rigid over rocks, anyway :-) The Shimano components seem reasonable... I will see over time how well they perform and last, but I'm sure it'll be easy to upgrade / replace components as needs and budget allow. The 24-speed gives me a pretty good range, although perhaps a little low at the top-end for fast road riding. Maybe it's just me, but the seat is really harsh.... feels great when you're out of it, though! Overall, I am very pleased and impressed: a light, agile, reasonably specced bike with a brilliant frame for £300. For either a beginner just starting to go off-road, or an intermediate rider wanting a strong base for future upgrades, this is a bargain. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$450.00 | | Purchased At: | Jerry & Sparky's Bicycle Shop | | Strengths: | Style, frame rigidity, shimano components, comfort. | | Weaknesses: | Could use stronger rims, Rock Shox Jett suspension (comes standard with the bike) seems to bottom out easily. | | Similar Products Used: | Other "cheap" mountain bikes. | | Bike Setup: | Standard. | | Bottom Line: | This is a great, GREAT mountain bike for those who are just getting involved in mountain biking and love riding on gravel, dirt/offroad, or paved trails, but are NOT hardcore offroaders, as the rims seem to not be up to the challenge of being beaten the crap out of, and the Rock Shox Jett suspension (standard with bike) seems to bottom out on big bumps or drop-offs, but is great none-the-less. They don't really bottom out unless I shift my weight to the front wheel while jumping (I weigh 175 lbs), so all in all they are a great suspension for non-hardcore offroaders. The frame is great, and holds up superbly to offroad vibrations and harshness. The seat is incredibly comfortable, and the pedals are great. The shifters work well and the handlebars are comfortable. All the Shimano components are great and reliable. The chain is also strong, and can put up with the loads of torque stress for uphill climbing. All in all a great bike. I have had no quirks with the bike so far and am extremely pleased with the bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$440.00 | | Purchased At: | Rudy's Schwinn Cyclery | | Strengths: | Great frame, with solid brakes and shifters. | | Weaknesses: | Rims | | Similar Products Used: | Various other mountain bikes. | | Bike Setup: | Standard | | Bottom Line: | I was looking for a good frame to build off of and that's what I got. I love the agressive styling of it, and the rock solid performance. I went with the 2.0 to get the slightly better components, and I am pleased with them. However I managed to screw up the back tire the first day I got it, but it's close enough to true to work. I also managed to turn the front rim into a taco about two weeks after that. Overall it's a great bike for the price, but you'll need to either ride softly, or get some new rims. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
