$500.00 | | Purchased At: | LBS | | Strengths: | Way solid frame; good price for the beginner; upgradable | | Weaknesses: | Stock components are low quality, but of course, the price is low. Derailuer hanger can cause trouble. | | Bike Setup: | Full XT drive train; Avid single digit 7 v-brakes; LX/Mavic rims; Marzocci Marathon SL forks | | Bottom Line: | Growing up in the 80's, GT was the standard in BMX. This bike feels a lot like those rigs. I bought mine new in '01 and over the years have replaced everything except the frame itself. The frame has proven to be able to take relentless abuse -- and I really beat the hell out of this thing, sometimes even intentionally (until I started getting more serious about the sport and my subsequent bikes cost a lot more). I still keep this ride around as a spare/backup, and I still love it a lot, even with it's dents and marks. Through the abuse, the frame remains straight. The only real issue (excluding cheap components of the original configuration) is the suspect derail hanger. This has been known to bend and produce unreliable shifting, but it's been cool for the last couple years w/o replacement. With technologies progressing w/re: to materials, I'm considering replacing this frame with something lighter, but I'll still hang onto it as a parts mule at least. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I'm mainly a roadie and have very expensive road bikes compared to the cost of the GT. I have not changed one thing on this bike and it handles everything I dish out. Huge nobby tires are great on the trail and the frame is indestructible, but it is also comfortable on the road. I would take this bike anywhere! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$450.00 | | Strengths: | Great frame, unbelievable balance and handling. Light and the polished aluminum is better than paint. | | Weaknesses: | Horrible rims, low end components. Stock fork sucks. | | Similar Products Used: | Low end specialized or giant. | | Bike Setup: | XT drivetrain, stock brakes, but upgraded pads and cables (XT V brake in rear and Hayes disk up front next upgrade). Mavic 517 rim up front and 519 in the back. Michelin Wildgripper in back, Hutchinson on the rocks up front. Fork upgraded to Marzocchi MX Comp with ETA (kick ass fork!) | | Bottom Line: | This was my first bike, and I had no idea if I would like the sport. The price was right, and the guy told me that it was an amazing frame and I could upgrade if I got into it. He was right. I've riden many other XC bikes, and none have the feel and balance of this frame. I bought another bike (a Norco) for downhilling, but for the trails I love this bike. You'll need to upgrade the rims right away, but the rest of the components should last a few months. A fork upgrade is a must as the Rock Shock Jett that mine came with was more like a crappy pogo stick. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

flow down a rocky mountain at 50 km/hr. jetts bottomed out pretty much whole way, blew out rear Tioga Factory XC tire. replaced with Intense comp 60 (heavy!).
went over bars on a single track, rear rime taco'd. replaced with rhyno lite (never out of true!). same wipe out bent deore rear deraileur. replaced with XT. same time replaced weak pro max brakes with deore.
replaced intense and tioga tires with wtb velociraptors. very nice tires.

$400.00 | | Purchased At: | Supergo, the place that sucks | | Strengths: | Very light, easily upgradeable, CHEAP | | Weaknesses: | Components suck, When the Judy TT's got to me they were broken, what else can I say? | | Similar Products Used: | Very old Specialized Rockhopper | | Bike Setup: | Aheadset, stock front rim, back is new don't remember what kind (old one cratered), 02 Psylo SL's, Specialized grips, XTR cassette, Alivio crank, some sort of shimano brakes, Bontrager Revolt SS tires | | Bottom Line: | Great bike that's easy to upgrade and very light, all my friends gripe about how heavy their bikes are because they're cromoly. I just laugh. I got the bike for a great price, but because Supergo sucks I couldn't ride it for like 3 months. They sent me broken forks and then gave me the runaround. I'm still waiting for some parts. I went on ahead and finished it with my own money.
I'm 6'2" and about 160 so I ride a large frame which is great. It's never really that cumbersome and it's still way lighter than my friends small Gary Fisher. Make sure to have a little extra cash layin around all the time because the rims suck and are either gonna have to be worked on all the time or replaced. I've raced this thing in downhill though (with the stock rims) and it held up til the day was over with minimal breakage. This is a bike that I would recommend to most riders that do around town riding to do errands, occasionally race it, and aren't crazy people that jump off of like 50' drops. Buy it, ride it, have fun. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$500.00 | | Purchased At: | Sun N Spokes | | Strengths: | Triple Triangle It's a GT Awesome geometry Featery light frame Very stiff, yet incredibly agile Well Balanced Easy to toss $500 Ball Burnished Finish (paint=useless weight, aluminum don't rust)
| | Weaknesses: | Low end components Rims Judy TT Aformentioned agility can be called instabilty if you like a locked in feel (personally I love this aspect but some may consider it a weakness)
| | Similar Products Used: | '99 giant 640, early 90's GT Hybrid | | Bike Setup: | '01 small (13") stock componenets, Odessey Triple Trap platforms, Rhino Lites, Coming soon: Zoke Z2 Atom Bomber 80 | | Bottom Line: | This is the best frame geometry I've found yet, and it's light, tuff, and aluminium. It feels like a grown up BMX GT. I didn't even attempt to ride te stock rims, and the shop where I bought took $85 off the price and built me a set of Rhino Lites so I rode out the door for $500+ tax. Great price, but I would like to see it equipped with a better front fork than the Judy TT. The Judy held up for 6 months with no maintenance, no problems, but it's not dampened and has a lot of flex. I've got a Marzocchi Z2 Atom80 coming in the mail this week so that should be a dramatic improvement over the Judy.
Overall this is a bike that a beginner could buy and be happy with, and would become obsolete before the frame is outgrown. As for the components I'd like to see a better set as well as a better fork on such a capable platform and I'd be willing to pay the price for them. I haven't tested the warranty yet but I have friends who have snapped 2+ year old GT frames riding extremely hard and they've gotten updated units back with a quick turnaround for just the cost of shipping. I ride XC, downhill, urba, and trials with my GT and I consider it an all in one, go anywhere do anything hardtail and I wouldn't trade it for anything that wasn't titanium.
I am a big guy, at 275 lbs and 6' and I beat the livin poop outta this thing and it just keeps on going, uphill, downhill, jumps, down stairs, small drops up to 3' so far (i've been scared to drop big with the Judy fork) and a lot of pogo-geeking all over everywhere. It's an extremely small frame for a dude my size but for my riding technique it is perfect and with a smaller frame you increase stiffness and strength while at the same time saving weight, double bonus!
10 chilis for value if I could, and 4 for Overall, only because of the low end components and fork are not up to the level needed to make this frame "shine". | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$480.00 | | Strengths: | Strong frame. | | Weaknesses: | I don't care for the looks. The yellow color is just plain ugly. The Aggressor 2.0 is much finer looking. the shocks are not great. | | Bottom Line: | The bike is not good. The 2.0 is more worth your money. The tires are not good. The looks are not good. Bad bike. PERIOD! I would suggest the 2.0 much more. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$550.00 | | Purchased At: | American Bicycle Fitness (Commack) | | Strengths: | Light, Tough, Decent components, easily upgradeable, great price | | Weaknesses: | Front shocks are decent but nothing special | | Similar Products Used: | Gary Fisher Marlin, and numerous other bikes | | Bike Setup: | GT Aggressor 1.0, Marzocchi z.1 fly front suspension fork, Complete XTR componets(Drivetrain, Chain rings, rear cogs, shifters, brakes), Shimano ATB clipless pedals | | Bottom Line: | Extremely Light, yet suprisingly tough also. I hvae thrown everything Long Island has to offer at this bike, from crazy uphills to screaming decents, and I have not had one problem. The front shocks are nothing special but will hold up for a while. Any rider from novice to pro will love this bike and at the $500-600 range its a great buy. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$500.00 | | Purchased At: | Steed Cycles | | Strengths: | Frame is light and solid. The Rock Shox Jett worked really well for me. tires are pretty good. brakes are good too. | | Weaknesses: | -seat is hard as hell -front derailleur | | Similar Products Used: | Trek 4500 | | Bike Setup: | 2001 GT Aggressor 1.0 | | Bottom Line: | I think this is a great bike for a beginner. THe frame is light, the shocks works really well for me. The brakes are pretty good too. THe major weakness of this bike is the seat. It's hard as a rock, so I was always force to stand. THe front derailleur wasn't that good, but not a big problem to me. Overall I think this is a nice bike especially for beginners, and it really is the best bike you can get with the price. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$475.00 | | Purchased At: | vernon bike | | Strengths: | frame is good for price, brakes are good handles great on single track, LIFETIME WARRANTY ON THE FRAME!!!!! | | Weaknesses: | wheelset sucks, shock could be better, but is ok at this price | | Bike Setup: | stock, excpet for lx front/rear derailer | | Bottom Line: | This is a great bike for the price range. IF your a beginner mountain biker and you want to get a good bike for upgrading at a cheap price, this is the one. Rims suck, that should be the first upgrade to make, after that its up to you. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$586.00 | | Purchased At: | sirois bicucle shop | | Strengths: | Very durable, easy to maneuver on technical terrain. Great comfort and control. Withstand any crap I dishout, also just and all around versatile bike. I tried alot of other models but this one really hit the mark. | | Weaknesses: | Front tire (velociraptor) needs to go, thick mud and sand, the tire dictates a line like a facist leader. | | Bottom Line: | for the price range and my short ass legs and desire to hurt myself this bike suits me just fine. Kudos to GT for consistantly making me come back to buy bikes. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$550.00 | | Purchased At: | Cycle Spectrum, College Station, TX | | Strengths: | Solid Frame, Components acceptable for price, GT WILL stand behind product | | Weaknesses: | Wheelset, crank, drivetrain, pedals w/toeclips, recalled Judy TT fork, Water Bottle Screw WILL shear under torque!!! | | Similar Products Used: | 2000 GT Rebound | | Bike Setup: | Stock, except for Rhyno Lite rims, w/LX hubs | | Bottom Line: | A definite upgrade from my previous rig, the 2001 Aggressor 1.0 shows its strengths and weaknesses on the trails. Its definitely tough--nothing is going to happen to the frame. However, the front derailleur is a disappointing Acera. I'm going to get a XT combo to replace the Acera/Deore one that came stock. The wheelset folded in the first real XC ride--the WTB SpeedMaster Rims are not up to any serous challenge; I went for Rhyno Lite/LX Wheelsets. The WTB Velociraptor tires ARE good tires. They just aren't right for my environment; you may have to change them out depending on your needs. It takes as much time to learn to use the toeclips as it did to learn clipless--go clipless, it's much safer. Check to see if you have one of the recalled Rockshox Judy TT forks--it has been recalled--your dealer HAS to fix it. The first time i unscrewed the water bottle screw, it sheared off and the screw was stuck in the frame, making the water bottle carrier USELESS. I talked to my dealer who was very helpful in contacting GT. GT was very helpful about replacing the ENTIRE frame for a broken screw. They even upgraded to a better frame, because they had no more 1.0s in stock. I will buy GT again. To those who complain about GT's customer service, make sure your dealer is reputable. Your dealer is the best way to contact GT and get stuff done.
As far as performance and ride, do be careful on rough downhills; it sometimes feels like the bike is falling apart. This is not a finesse issue, it just need some upgrading before it can handle anything too dicey. But other than that i enjoy the ride; especially after upgrading.
Overall you get what you pay for. For $550, I think that you would be getting a good bike for the price. Think of it as investing in a nice, solid frame that you plan on upgrading a bit when you have the money (which I did not). Of course if you have the money, go for a higher end bike.
I give the 2001 Aggressor 1.0 a 5 for value--this bike is good for the price. And I give it a 3 Overall--of course it's better than a Palomar or the other Aggressors, but you know there are better bikes to be had (I-Drive 2.0, Avalanche). | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$519.00 | | Purchased At: | Valley Cycle | | Strengths: | Awsome, shox are nice, but changing em. Get clipless pedals, and change the front d. Surprisingly, the rear d. is nice. Best bike for the $ | | Weaknesses: | None Yet... I am upgrading some parts because of my use. | | Similar Products Used: | Trek 4900, Trek 6000, Specilaized Rockhopper A1, Speciailized Hardrock A1 Comp FS. | | Bike Setup: | GT Agressor 1.0, Judy SL Fork... $575.00 | | Purchased At: | Eastbank Schwinn | | Strengths: | Strong stiff frame. Reliable components. Rear Deore derailuer works flawlessley. Thumb shifters are excellent. Seat is light yet comfortable once use to it. | | Weaknesses: | Shock recall (Rock Shox TT). Handle bar a bit too wide but can be cut. Tires (velocoraptors) too agressive for flat Louisiana. Should come with clipless pedals instead of clips and straps. Bottle mount screw broke off with little torque. | | Similar Products Used: | Inexpensive "mart" store bike. | | Bike Setup: | Shimano SPD clipless pedals. Bar ends. Kenda Cross front tire, Ritchie speed max rear. Specialized computer. | | Bottom Line: | This is a solid bike. Not exceptionally light but tough. Ditch the pedals and go clipless. Unless you ride downhill you won't like the tires. They are heavy, rough riding and collect mud but of course your tire decision will depend on where you ride. The shock recall should be cleared away by now and it really was a quick fix at the local shop. If you are new to front suspension you will like the shock but you may want to upgrade in the future. The rims are good however I dented the rear rim on a deep hit during an adventure race. Yes, there are better bikes but this is a good value for a starter bike. I am very happy with my purchase. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Highly reccamend magura hs 33 brakes (will stop a tank).Overall Ive been very satisfied with this bike and the triple triangle frame look's very cool! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$529.00 | | Purchased At: | Orland Park Schwinn | | Strengths: | Tires, Frame | | Weaknesses: | Brakes, Seat post and clamp | | Similar Products Used: | Trek 830 | | Bike Setup: | stock except for yeti grips and azonic seat and post | | Bottom Line: | I guess it is a decent bike for the money. I have had problems with the front derailler. It seems to need adjustment constantly. The seatpost clamp snapped off when I was thrown back onto the saddle after not clearing a 16" log.
The brakes tend to rub the wheels if they become muddy. I intend to replace most of the components eventually. I am happy with the frame. The tires work well in all conditions. It was definately the best bike available for $500. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$575.00 | | Purchased At: | Goodales | | Strengths: | price, everything on it is not to good, but it is good for the price | | Weaknesses: | shox front Derailer crank pedals | | Bike Setup: | stock, accept shamanio clipless pedals and owa bar ends | | Bottom Line: | This is a good bike for someone who wants an enexpensive bike. If you are advanced and do races, don't get this bike; you'll have to replace everything on the bike. The shox suck, the 2000 judy XC were better than these. The brakes work good sommetimes, but when i get my rims wet or muddy my brakes rub against the rims slowing me down alot. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$600.00 | | Purchased At: | LBS in town | | Strengths: | The frame will probably live longer than I'll do :-) | | Weaknesses: | The front suspension bottoms on the forest trails. | | Similar Products Used: | GT Tempest -99 (Rigid) | | Bike Setup: | Stock | | Bottom Line: | Primarly I use the bike for commuting, 25 miles a day, mostly gravelled road. Secondarly I use the bike for fun riding in the forests close to the place where I live. In my opinion GT could use Shimano components from the same family all over. So far so good and a lot better than my old Tempest. The front suspension is the big difference compared with the Tempest on gravelled roads. A good bike for beginners. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$550.00 | | Purchased At: | Fun Wheels (Oxford, AL) | | Strengths: | -light -good components -great value | | Weaknesses: | -fork recall -downgraded fork from 2000 model -riser bar | | Similar Products Used: | KMart garbage | | Bike Setup: | Stock except Serfas saddle, Time pedals, and a computer. | | Bottom Line: | I got this bike for $550. I thought it had a Judy XC but was Judy TT. About a month after I bought it the fork was recalled but now al is well. I like the yellow color on it with red highlights. I weighed it on a bathroom scale and it was 29 even with heavy wire bead tires. Even though the tires are heavy they provide excellent grip in all conditions (Velociraptors). It has better components than most bikes in its price range: WTB rims, WTB tires, WTB headset, SDG saddle, Deore rear derailler, and aluminum stem, seatpost, and handlebar. Good bike for a beginner. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
