$500.00 | | Purchased At: | Kundstat Sports | | Strengths: | Triple Triangle Frame Never had any problems with the WTB headset or the GT stem, still have them on the bike. The crank and BB actually lasted me about two years without any problems. | | Weaknesses: | Just about everything else, especially the RST fork, the generic cassette & chain (which lasted me about 3 rides) & the rear der. | | Similar Products Used: | 2004 Specialized Hardrock. (not impressed) 2004 Tassahara (couldn't really try it out, it is my girlfriend's and the frame is XS at 13.5") | | Bike Setup: | Marzocchi EXT Pro fork, Rhyno lite rims with Ritchey front Hub, Shimano LX rear, Velociraptor 2.1" tires, Shimano XT V-brakes & levers, Shimano LX Shifters with XTR front & rear derailleurs, Azonic 1.5" riser bar, Truvativ Husselfelt crank with Eggbeater(plain Chrome) peddles, FSA ISIS drive BB, SRAM 7.0 Cassette & PC99 Chain. | | Bottom Line: | This frame has served me very well. It allowed me to be introduced to mountain biking and I still occasionally chose it over my RM Edge when I know I'm not going to be encountering too much Freeride sections on the trails, not that the frame couldn't handle it. I am not a light rider at 195lbs and I have never heard a complaint from the frame. Sure I toasted the fork after about 8 months of riding cross country but what do you expect from a low cost, low quality fork. The way I have the bike set up at the moment, I would chose over just about anything I have ridden to date if I knew the ride would include a lot of climbs and technical sections (I have tested a RM ETSX-70 and Specialized Stumpjumper Comp. disc as well as own a 2001 RM Edge), it handles great and climbs like a mountain goat. As far as going down on the other side, The EXR does a good job of soaking up the rough stuff but there are limits to what you can do with a hardtail and I respect those limits. I have never tried "Downhill" or "Freeride" trails with this bike as it is not it's purpose. The only negative things I can comment on it the way I have it done up now have nothing to do with the original bike itself. The Velociraptor is a great choice as a rear tire but I have noticed that the front gets quite skiddish in the wet and on gravel (it bites great on hard pack). Also, the XT V-brakes have the usual XT wail when you apply them but are very strong. I give it five flamming chilis for the low cost and frame because you can upgrade it and end up with a very capable cross country hardtail. If you're just getting started and are willing to upgrade to better components when the originals break (which they should have by now), it is a great choice. The frame will probably outlast you. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$650.00 | | Purchased At: | Bonthrone Bikes | | Strengths: | suitable for light XC and leisure. Great frame. Well worth buying second hand just for the frame! | | Weaknesses: | Generic parts. Beyond the headset and handlebars everything could do to be upgraded. | | Similar Products Used: | Gary Fisher Wahoo | | Bike Setup: | Came with RST 381EL forks (boo!) which I upgraded to Marzocchi MX comp. Changed pedals for Shimano multi-purpose M324. Replaced v-brakes with Hope Mini Disk. Got new Specialized seat. Replaced Suntour crankset for Prodogy XC. Replaced Acera with Deore groupset. Replaced tires with Panaracer Fire XC | | Bottom Line: | Great entry level hardtail especially if you get one with Judy TT forks rather that the RST mine had. For people who want a bike to get you into the sport and see if they like it. Beyond light trailing you'll probably look to upgrade most components. Well worth the money just for the frame. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$400.00 | | Purchased At: | Bob's Pedal Pusher | | Strengths: | Strong frame, puts up with freeride abuse that I put it through (even though it is a cross country bike) | | Weaknesses: | Derailleurs were trashed about a year and a half after i got them from jumping n' such. The fork is mushy, and the seat isn't very comfortable. | | Similar Products Used: | GT Idrive, Giant Rainier, Schwinn Mesa | | Bike Setup: | pretty much stock, in the process of changing the drivetrain. The chainwheels are pretty eaten up, the cassete is chewed up, the derailleurs don't work too well, i only have two gears that function. Saving to upgrade to possibly a Duke fork. The seat needs to go, and I'm putting wellgo pedals on it. I also want to put a THE front fender on it, just so it looks wicked | | Bottom Line: | Awesome bike, even though it wasn't designed to be jumped off 4-5 foot loading docks and big dirt jumps, it still lives. The frame holds up through everything. Once i get the drive train squared away, it'll definately be a joy to take to the local skate park. its crazy how all those bmx'ers look at you when you show up on a mountain bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

The components used to manufacture this bike are entry-level at best, yet seem to perform reasonably if well-maintained. I wouldn't recommend this bike to someone who plans to compete with it, but for other more casual riders, it works fine. $469.00 | | Purchased At: | Roswell Bicycles-- Roswell, GA | | Strengths: | Strong frame, quality components, beautiful bike--it's silver and shiny, so I don't get run over as much by rednecks and old ladies around town. | | Weaknesses: | Wheels | | Similar Products Used: | Wal-Mart bikes | | Bike Setup: | Aggressor 2.0: Aggressor frame (obviously), Rock Shox Jett front suspension, Suntour crankset, Shimano Acera front & rear derailleurs, Shimano V-brakes, WTB Momentum Comp headset, and everything else factory. | | Bottom Line: | I'm very much a beginner, and I don't have too many cool places to ride. I do my best, though, with all the rooted up sidewalks and a few hidden trails just on the outskirts of town. The 2001 Aggressor 2.0 is an awesome bike for beginners. Unless I was seriously considering becoming actively involved in this sport I would not have paid nearly five hundred bucks for a bicycle; but I am very pleased with the bike, and I feel I got my money's worth. I also need to do a plug for the awesome folks at ROSWELL BICYCLES, who do an outstanding job of helping you find the right bike and components(and they give your bike free tune-ups for life). They don't let you off the lot with the bike, until everything is running perfectly. Anyway, the bike has a good, sturdy frame for us big-guys. I was, at first, quite amazed at how light the frame is, and thrilled to death (almost quite literally) at how quick the brakes caught. I was also impressed with the smooth transition between the various gears. These were things I was not accustomed to, due to horrible past experiences with Roadmasters, Murrays, and Huffy's back in the day. With the exception of the wheels, all the other components are sweet, and work like a charm. The problem with the wheels are simply that they, like some ex-girlfriends, won't stay true. I would concede, though, that the problem with the wheels (very factory), might have something to do with the fact that they're supporting about 240 lbs of me through bunny-hops and miscellaneous abuse. The guy who sold me the bike told me that I'd probably need to get a new wheelset soon, due to my weight, so this isn't a big surprise. Again, overall, it's a good bike. I'm diggin' it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$430.00 | | Purchased At: | Two Wheels One Planet | | Strengths: | It is the best bike for the money. The frame is strong and light for its class. The triple triangle design removes unwanted flex from the frame. Good frame to start out with and then adding better components when the money comes. Even though its made in Taiwan, it is better than some bikes I've ridden that was made in the USA. | | Weaknesses: | Even at max pre-load, the MG91 fork still bottoms out. The rims bend at the lightest hit. The drivetrain components are durable but very heavy. The shifters are the cheapest thing on the bike. The Tioga tires are great for city riding, but the treads arn't aggressive enough for riding the trails in Southern California. The brakes are heavy and always feel like a wet sponge. For guys, if you plan to have children you better get a new seat fast or else. For you ladies, my friends tell me it's like sitting on a 2x4. But once up graded, look out! | | Similar Products Used: | Trek 4500, Schwinn Mesa GS, Gary Fisher Tassajara | | Bike Setup: | Rolf Sattelite wheelset, Sun Ringle ZuZu Pedals, Tektro Quartz MT20 Brakes, Specialized BG Seat, and still upgrading | | Bottom Line: | Even with cheap components, I've never had a mechanial break down. Even under hard pounding, it held the line and kept up with bikes costing twice as much. Money is tight so it had taken me longer to upgrade. But this frame is worth keeping and adding on rather than buying a whole new bike. This bike is perfect for people who just started mountain biking, people who want to get around the city, or a mountain biker strapped for cash like I am. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I bought it over the summer, and have ridden constantly ever since. The Suntour fork sucked, it was flexy, and it blew through its travel. So i bought the Judy and set it at 4 inches and the bike came alive. It kicked back the headangle, so it made it steer a little more stable, just what i needed for urban stuff. The drivetrain is fine, although i am considering ditchin the cranks and putting a single ring and profile cro-mo cranks on it. The frame is nice and stiff, and bunnyhops great. The length of the bike is also just right, i bought the 16 incher and it wheelies like no other. Anyway, if you ride urban stuff,i highly recommend this bike, with a few choice upgrades. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I was doing mostly commuting, but a few light trail rides got me hooked. Bought a Manitou Magnum R shock (300 CDN), some nobbier tires, and some clipless pedals. The bike rocks for the price. The frame is kick ass and all it needs is a few more upgrades. I'd recomend this bike to anyone looking for an entry level bike. It definately needs some upgrading to make it trail worthy, so don't expect to tear it up right off the showroom floor. I wouldn't recomend this bike to anyone who isn't willing to spend another 600 bucks (CDN) to get it rocking. The bike handles well, and is quite light for a 20 inch frame. My main beef with it is the 21 speed drive train. It's impossible to upgrade it one part at a time, because you just can't find the stuff to do it. I'm going to have to save my beans, and buck up for new levers, shifters, crankset, deraileurs, chain, rear cog, and wheel set. Ugh. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I am most impressed with it's sturdy frame. This adds a bit of weight but not too much. The added strength is worth it. Heavier riders who are rough on their bikes will appreciate this. The extra $30 for the ball-burnished over the painted model seemed kinda unjustified, yet I'm still glad I got it (looks great!). The pedals(pure crap!) are slippery & bend easily & should be upgraded first thing. The fork will work fine for some, but not for those who do a lot of really rough riding. A few easy upgrades will make this bike a lot more fun! This is a good entry-level ride for someone who wants a decent bike that can be upgraded to a GREAT bike if he ends up really digging the sport. If you are interested in this bike shop around. The Trek 4500 is a decent bike also and can be had for $399. I like my GT better but I think it would be a better value if a found little closer to $400. (Save for the clunky shock. Details follow.) | | Weaknesses: | 1.The shock! Good grief. I'd be better off with a rigid fork. It about killed me three times before I got a Jett. 2.The seat! Any male with respect for himself and future plans to start a family should replace it immediately. It looks great but some things are just more important than looks. 3. The wheels! They are impossible to keep straight. Just give up and buy some that aren't constructed of coke-can aluminum. | | Bike Setup: | Convair rims. RS Jett shock. | | Bottom Line: | This is a great bike. Just plan to spend a few hundred dollars on upgrades. Even then it's better than anything in it's price range. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$480.00 | | Purchased At: | goodales bike and ski shop (hooksett NH) | | Strengths: | This bike rocks, i love the it, and it was the best "bang for the buck" i could find fun right out of the box (with exception of fork) | | Weaknesses: | The shock " WHAT THE FU#$" the shock bottoms out with my 220lbs and with my 140lb friend just standing on it. not to mention the shock weighs more than the bike. I'm willing to bet that wallmart sells a better shock than this one. SHAME on GT for even thinking of putting this on their product, and suntour get a clue!!! | | Similar Products Used: | speacialized rock hopper, GT timberlain | | Bike Setup: | stock with exception of onza clipless cro-mo spindle pedals bar ends and an upgrade to a 2000 rock shox jett race fork (a steal for $129- at supergo.com) | | Bottom Line: | this is a good bike for an beginner to expert biker that doesnt want to break the bank but wants a quality bike, the components arn't the greatest and the shock has to go!!! but when you consider paying upwards of 800- for a bike with a comprable setup with a better fork, well you do the math. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$340.00 | | Purchased At: | Halfords(!) | | Strengths: | Frame is very light and the black/yellow colour combination looks good. Seems like a decent bike for £220. Haven't had any cause to moan, nothing dropped off yet. | | Weaknesses: | Sync. suspension a bit stiff, maybe it needs running in? | | Similar Products Used: | Saracen Fastrax. | | Bike Setup: | As per factory with Sync. suspension. | | Bottom Line: | Bargain beginner bike, {he says as a beginner:) } looking around at £250< there's not a lot about for a weekend rider who don't want to spend a lot. Saracen Fastrax was cheap but like riding an iron bed stead! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

But its a very nice beginners/semi-professional bike, with a quality frame. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Columbus Ohio USA (approx) Date Reviewed: August 13, 2000 | | Favorite Trail: | Little Miami River Trails | | Duration Product Used: | Less than 1 month | | Strengths: | The frame (all-Aluminum) and the V-brakes, especially. The saddle is good firm, touch, yet fairly comfy. The tires are aggressive and surprisingly rugged for stock tires and the aluminum rims are cool. I fell in love with the triple triangle GT frames and became a repeat GT-buyer when my first GT served me nearly 6000 miles in 6 years without one problem. Replaceable rear derailuer hanger is a plus. | | Weaknesses: | The front suspension Suntour is pretty cheap but its my first front suspension so it beats the snot out of a rigid front fork. The crankset and gears are slipping at the lower gears (may be an adjustment problem but I havent taken it in yet for the free 90day tune-up). | | Similar Products Used: | GT Timberline ( the old MTB model) from 1995 (like I said, 6000 miles with no problems) | | Bike Setup: | GOTTA get the barends. While the padded grips are nice, I put too much pressure on them and they become very hard and uncomfortable. Saving for a possible upgrade on the front suspension and /or front disk brakes. The first priority whould be the front suspension (its the cheapest thing on the bike) | | Bottom Line: | Great bike for the money. I did alot of pricing and nowhere else can you get what this bike gives for the money. GT frames are best (in my opinion) and a moderate biker who likes both off-road and paved trails will find it to be a good buy and good bike. I ride mostly on paved trails but starting to get into off-road trails so I feel its a good entry -level bike for that purpose. I ride about75 miles a week, with two or three 20-milers thrown in. I agree that the tires are a bit too aggressive for pavement but then its there when you need it so I dont mind. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

the tires are pretty good for stock rubber, and I can't complain about the rims either.
overall this is a lot of quality for the money, much better than an equal priced haro, or mesa, and lightyears better than last years agressor | | Weaknesses: | one word: SHOCK, come on suntour, when your shock weighs twice as much as the bike it just isnt right. On the positive side the shouck can accomodate disc brakes. Other than that what is there to complain about (other than the fact that great britan obviously gets the cool colors, re the review below this one.... black with specles) | | Similar Products Used: | haro 7.1 (99) agressor (99) | | Bike Setup: | stock except have swapped the st shock for a rox judy | | Bottom Line: | This is an awsome beginers bike, or even a great bike for more experianced riders. The components are good for the money. I ride on trails and commute, and I cant think of a single complaint with this bike. If you are looking for a serious racer...this isnt it (but it also does not cost $2500). I am sure that anyone who rides trails, commutes, or loves to tear up the mountains will be happy with this bike. Just dont expect it to be better than its price tag. Like I said in the usa a red one will run about $420, ball burnished $480 (just become friends with the dealer and the price drops) | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from London, United Kingdom Date Reviewed: July 31, 2000 | | Favorite Trail: | haven't got one yet!! | | Duration Product Used: | Less than 1 month | | Strengths: | The biggest strength with this bike is the frame, its soooo light!!
V-Brakes, very powerful, although i personally would've preferred disc brakes, but that would have meant a much bigger price tag. The looks of it, its a stunning bike.. especially the colour, mine's Black, with bits of yellow, the whole bike is colour co-ordinated, so even the seat and forks match..
The price of it! Got mine in a sale for GB£249.99, which is pretty good!
The Sync Suspension forks aren't exactly made for downhill racing, but they are pretty decent and serve!!
The seat, i dunno why, but its just pretty cool..!!
| | Weaknesses: | Not as many as the strengths!
The componentry in general, the gears are Shimano STI, pretty basic, but do their job, the gear change is very smooth however..
| | Similar Products Used: | None.. | | Bike Setup: | Stock. | | Bottom Line: | Well i'm 15, and basically this is a very good bike for its price, it performs well, and the riding position is great, the weight of the frame is excellent, this bike would best be suited the the moderate user, going off road, but not to extremes, i mean this bike can take quite a lot, but u cant really use it for downhill racing.. All in all this is a great bike, performs well, i mean its a great bike, its a GT, they make great bikes.. all i say is that somponentry could be a bit better!

This bikes biggest strength is long continuos climbs. | | Weaknesses: | The front SR Suntour shock is so heavy once you take it off you could use it as a door stop. I you decide to purchase this bike I recomend changing out the fork. The fork doesn't have much travel but it will do for a while. | | Similar Products Used: | Gary Fisher Mt Tam, | | Bike Setup: | After I purchased my bike i changed the fork to a Manitou which made me change to a threadless headset and stem. | | Bottom Line: | The bottom line is that if you are just getting into mountain biking and want a strong durable bike that can take a pretty good beatin this is the one to buy. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Buy this if your trails have some jump or some bike hills, although it is a good bike to cruise around town with, nothing beats rippin' up the trail and launching the jumps. Bike fits me really well; comfortable with about 3" bar clearance. I may go to a higher stem to cut down my back angle, though. Bike works really well and seemed best for the buck in the $400-500 range. Seemed to be worth the extra $75 over the Outpost based on the better fork/shock (adjustable RS), tires and three more gears. Definately change-out the seat! The Fisher Marlin was a close second, choice really came down to looks, The GT red looks great! Mesa a very nice bike but couldn't justify the extra $80-100 bucks. I'm 38 and I wont be doing too much Extreme downhill, I just want to keep in-shape aerobically and try to keep up with my 8 year old on his BMX! Overall, the Aggressor is a great quality bike from a reputable, well-known MFG. The re-sale will be there should I ever want to upgrade. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
