$1750.00 | | Purchased At: | Siskiyou Cyclery | | Strengths: | Sturdy, Light, Climbs like a cat climbs up a tree. Descends well for a hardtail. Well balanced, great compnent spec for the money. I actually have the 2000 version so it Formula Hydraulic Disc Brakes. Stops on a dime. The QR-20 X-Fly is a fork that takes abuse, and is is a low pressure system so fork can be plush for three inches. The Air Fork is easy to dial in. I could go on and on
| | Weaknesses: | The LX front Der., some times pulls past the outer ring but other than that. | | Similar Products Used: | Jamis Komodo, 1999 Zaskar, Trek 8500. | | Bike Setup: | XTR Rear Der, XT Front, Continental Verical Pros Tires F/R, LX Crank Set, Syncros Stem and Riser Bar, Syncros Post, SDG Grand Prix Saddle | | Bottom Line: | This is a bike that can handle just about anything. From Twisting Single Track of SOuthern Oregon to the Slick Rock Trail of Moab. I Highly Recommend this bike to anyone beginning our expert. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Vancouver, BC Date Reviewed: November 15, 2000 | | Favorite Trail: | Nicole's | | Duration Product Used: | 1 Year | | Strengths: | Frame and fork. | | Weaknesses: | Lightweight rims and seatpost QR. | | Similar Products Used: | Kona. Brodie. | | Bike Setup: | 18" frame. XT/XTR. Z2 Atom Bomb. Rhyno Lite rims. 2.3 front and 2.25 rear tire. | | Bottom Line: | I spent 1700 Canadian Pesos on this bike at a going out of business sale - down from 2500 - and I'm glad I did. The Mavic 221's didn't hold up very well, but the Rhyno Lite's are great. The XT V-brake wouldn't stop squealing no matter how carefully I toe'd the brake pads in until I bought a brake booster. No problems since. I bent the lightweight seatpost QR shortly after I bought the bike. I replaced it with a heavier-duty model from my local shop and also haven't had any problems since. So with the exception of new wheels (with XT hubs) and seatpost QR, everything else is original equipment.
I ride Burnaby Mountain for the most part, and my Zaskar is right at home. With it's flat bars, longish stem and XC fork, it's probably not the best choice for The Reaper or Pink Starfish, but I don't go for drops over three-feet anyway.
If you're looking for an all-around bike, I would say the Zaskar is it.

$900.00 | | Purchased At: | Dan's Competition | | Strengths: | Light, strong, quality components (XTR and XT, Marazochi shock) | | Weaknesses: | Weaknesses? I dented the frame, but that wasn't the bikes fault | | Similar Products Used: | none | | Bike Setup: | ? Standard I guess | | Bottom Line: | At its retail price, I wouldn't have bought it, but I got it for half price and its an awesome ride. I've never had components above shimano alivio, so bumping up to XT and XTR was a BIG improvement. The 6061 aluminum frame is strong and light. I love it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from OAKLAND, CA Date Reviewed: April 7, 2000 | | Favorite Trail: | DOWNIEVILL, ALL OF IT | | Duration Product Used: | More than 3 years | | Strengths: | I,m a big buy that like to get air, and this frame has taken all that I could dish out. Climbs really well, and handles great. If you like the ride of a stiff frame this is the one. | | Weaknesses: | Will not break, I would like to get a new one, mine is a 97'. | | Similar Products Used: | Trek, Fisher | | Bike Setup: | Long travel Bomber, Race Face cranks, XTR brakes, shifters, derailers, Azonic riser bars, Rino/GT hub wheelset | | Bottom Line: | Great bike. Climbs like a goat and goes as fast as you can handle down hill, set it up as a "free ride" bike and you can get the best of both worlds. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
