Favorite Trail:chicopee
Duration Product Used:Tested or demo'ed only
Price Paid: $600.00
Purchased At:lbs
Strengths:burly and stout but not too heavy.
Weaknesses:for 600.00 new-uh, none!
Similar Products Used:kona hoss 2004-too heavy, componentry seems particularized, not a single bike like the gt.
Bike Setup:stock, i will ride the rockshock till i genuinely improve my jumping, look at the bmx-ers, they have no shocks!!
Bottom Line:I like gt and kona, not jamis or giant, I even like specialized but don't like the snobery associated with them. I like gt bikes, they fit just perfectly, they weigh a little more and the componentry is usually not as spectacular as some bikes-I am sure Brian Lopes rides quite a unique gt. As long as the bike fits me-i'm ok. I know about all the high end bikes out there, but i also realize firmly all the bmx-ers working miracles on all their 200.00 bikes.

Submitted by John Techno a Cross Country Rider from Cambridge, UK
Date Reviewed: June 1, 2003
Favorite Trail:Wales...all of it
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $1000.00
Purchased At:UK dealer
Strengths:All-round ability, the bike climbs, descends, jumps, the lot. Hardcore frame, not too heavy considering the strength, and GT's expansive knowledge with regard to this sort of bike (as picked up from their years of BMX production and racing, and the mighty Zaskar). Even the 2.0 version, which comes with a single front cable disc, has full disc compatability.
Weaknesses:Some fairly cheap builds out there...mine had a Psylo XC fork which is OK but a bit flexy...soon replaced mine with a 'Zocchi DJ3. Front disc is cable-operated on the 2.0, but the Avid model is one of the better cable types. SDG saddle isn't as good as some would have you imagine. Syncros wheels are rubbish, replace as soon as you can.
Similar Products Used:Zaskar, assorted BMX, DMR frames.
Bike Setup:DMR pretty things all round, Diatech Anchor brakes, Kore Torsion Bar, Mavic D521s on XT hubs, Tioga DH2.3 tyres (very tight fit), Marzocchi DJ3, modified seat post to accomodate my fat butt.
Bottom Line:Good all rounder. I've done all day off road (100km), 140km on road, down hill, up hill, jumps, street...the bike laps it up. If you get one with a cheap build, spend a few quid (or dollars for you colonial types) and you've got a great bike. If you just want a bike to ride hard, this is the one...easy 5 out of 5.
