Yesterday I was riding the Third Divide trail in Downieville.
I fell 50 feet down a steep embankment smashing my head into an oak tree. The only reason I am not drooling on myself or in a hospital bed is the Boreas.

Since I've never owned a helmet prior to this, I can't make any comparisons. Anyhow, I'm a short guy but require wearing a Large size helmet, so I was afraid the weight would strain my neck. Also, a concern was how hot it would get. None of these things occurred. After a few days, I didn't notice the helmet being there, which is indicative of a good helmet. The only complaint - it's minor - is that the helmet would sometimes shift, but that could be my inexperience with the fit than anything else. Overall, a great product. I was on the road for 52 days. When I finished one of the velcro ribbons had fallen of the RocLoc system (bad glue). I glued it myself with some epoxy - it seemed good - but after another 2 weeks of riding the ribbon came of again. To me the RocLoc system feels like it's bad quality.

After entering a car head first through the windscreen insurance bought me a new one. Second one was stolen and third one is now a little tired after much abuse. Incredibly strong with no problems other than the plastic coating on the neck brace has delaminated requiring tape.
Ideal for road and trails, the colours are not too bright and don't detract the ladies eyes from my thighs and/or Klein. If you want a really head turning helmet don't bother - it's far too refined for posing.
Never moves on my head (right shape for me), always cool even in summer London city heat and is extremely resistant to little scrapes and knocks.

It fit nicely enough in the store, but again, the RocLoc feature is this helmet's real weakness. The glue holding the velcro fasteners came undone, and the straps get in the way of a headband. Tightening as much as is tolerable STILL results in the helmet sliding forward on my head, and when you're in the drops getting anaerobic, the last thing you want is having your view obstructed.

In my one bad crash a Giro helmet converted a major concussion into an impact I didn't even feel. (See my Ventoux review...)
In terms of its basic shape, this helmet seems to fit worse than my old Giro Ventoux--a little more jiggle from side to side; the front-to-back fit is fine. Numerous, thick foam pads were included separately to help adjust the fit--so maybe the broad mold was designed to allow the wide-headed to fit into these helmets with some jerry-rigging. (I think there may be one less size now than Giro used to offer... but I'm not 100% sure on that.)
That said, the rocloc feature is very effective at keeping the helmet from sliding around on my head. The old helmet occasionally slid up my forehead even though its basic fit was better. So I guess overall this model represents progress. | | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |

Wear it and you don't even know it's there. Ride without it and you feel like something's missing. Purchased the yellow/orange combination and an attachable sun visor. New owners need to experiment with the adjustments. Giro was so comfortable I didn't read the instructions for awhile. Finally did just out of curiosity. There are strap adjustments that can be made using the velcro underneath the pads. Now the Boreas fits like a glove.
The bottom line is protection. Fortunately, I have had no serious accidents which threatened my melon.
Cost...Have you bothered to consider the outrageous prices you probably paid for your other bicycle components?

I have used this on summer days exceeding 28 degrees C, and although nothing can beat riding bare-headed, I have not felt the need to take it off. It is significantly better than the Helios, which is the helmet I owned before the Boreas. While wearing a helmet, I tend to get itchy on the bits which are poorly ventilated or where the pads are. Due to the well designed ventilation and the minimal pads, this has not been a problem.The only mild concern I have are the safety ratings. Giro have not submitted their helmets to the Snell safety standard since the Boreas was launched. Is this because the Snell, being the toughest standard, does not pass the very ventilated Boreas, and the manufacturer is trying to hide this? However I should not let this put you off buying the helmet as it passes other safety standards and it could mean whether you're going to wear this helmet or not one at all. | | Overall Rating: |

The fit felt strange out of the box, but on the trail it's always felt like a glove. I also have to mention that the light weigth IS noticable on the trail. Giro Incline, Specialized Air Cobra, Giro Ventoux | | Bottom Line: | This has got to be the best venting and best looking helmet on the market today, besides the Specialized King Cobra. For me, it was a hard choice between them. I liked these two helmets because they both are in-molded, instead of the outside shell stuck onto the foam with tape, like the cheaper ones are, which will peel off with use. Most of the better helmets are adjustable for fit, so if you try one that's close to your size you can customize it for yourself. In other words, don't blame the helmet-- it's probably just your weirdly shaped melon! Just go try a different one.
I could get both of these two hats to fit, and they both let alot of wind pass through,(the Boreas maybe just a bit cooler, but not enough to worry about). But, with the King Cobra, you get the visor, and their new snap-on system is a better way to go than Velcro. But I don't feel the need for a visor for my type of riding. To me, both helmets were about equal.
Then when I saw how cool the Boreas looked in ONCE Yellow, the way it fades from almost white in front to grey to black in back, even inside on the foam, I said that's it! So now, not only do I have excellent technology, but who said bike helmets have to be ugly? 5 habaneros ! | | Overall Rating: |

The lime color is bright, but I figure it makes me more noticeable on the road. It fits very well, which is hard to find for me, as I have a narrow head. I bought this great helmet from supergo and what a deal! It fits my head like it was made for it. The pads are perfectly placed for me. The vents and the looks make wanna go out and ride right away. Cool feel and cool looks.Another great thing is that it doesn't have any stupid visor that keep coming loose or falling off. I had a Helios before, which was nice but the pressure on my forehead from the two brow pads left perfect imprints of the pads themselves. Otherwise, it was nice, so much so that I couldn't see the point in getting a new one. And initially I didn't like the fit of the Boreas. But then one day I picked up the shop's last '98 model and monkey-ed with all the straps for a while, and PRESTO! The thing fit like it was made especially for me. I did get the helmet at closeout price, but I really like it. The pads are soft and absorbent, the straps are comfortable. It's the only helmet ever that I don't mind wearing. Keep in mind, in cold weather the thing is too cool. You'll need a bandana or something underneath. But summer is a different story, especially in Florida. | | Overall Rating: |

The helmet is unblievebly light and soooo many large vents to keep me head cool.Borea retails here between $275-$300. Got my green one from Supergo. Wouldn't pay $150 for a helmet but couldn't pass up the Supergo deal. Great helmet. Good retention system. many people talk about price when you talk about this one. well like someone else said, if you cant afford a lobster, get a hamberger. i know that you can get a $50 helmet that does the same thing, well almost. the fit of this helmet, is perfect, designed for a human head, and not some plastic maniquine in a warehouse. it looks great, probably the best looking one out there. its extremely light and airy, you dont even realize your wearing one until you look in a mirror. i put a giro visor on mine, and it looks even better! hey, if you seriously cant afford this, then dont get it. those of us that have bought it know exactly why, and know that its worth every penny...

Are Ferraris lousey cars because of the price? Hey, a Pinto will get you to the same place as a Ferrari right? This helmet is great. You get what you pay for.
If its too expensive, you're too poor!
Its gonna be on your head a lot so you might as well get the one you like most.
This one fit the best, has a great weight, is very well ventilated, and
can be adjusted infinitely.

Well, sure, you're heared all the hoolpla... roc loc 3 ... 27 vents... lightest helmet... but seriously folks, why in the world would anyone pay around $150 for a helmet that protecs your head just as well as any cheapo. Sure it may fit better, but it has almost the same roc loc system as many $50 helmets out there. Befor you buy this helmet, ask yourself: am I really willing to pay over $100 extra for the styling? Is it just me or is this trend really stupid? I can't see how this helmet could have cost the company any more to make than its lower-end lids. I would recommend the Giro Incline as a helmet that is almost as good in every way, but its price point is far, far, lower. Unless you are a VERY serious cyclist, I don't think you'll notice the differences in venting or the difference between roc loc 3 and roc loc 1
I would love to give this helmet 5 chilis because it is so excellent in design, but Giro's pricing is outrageous, so I can't give it more than a 2 until they do something to address these problems. | Overall Rating: |

It fits great and my hair is no longer matted with sweat after rides. A little wide for my small face, I look like a dork in it. Willing to trade for the king cobra when it becomes available. Weighs a bit less than the exodus and looks a whole lot better than a visorless exodus. The RocLoc is slightly improved but the system on my exodus was perfect.
The price is crazy high but hopefully soon someone will sell these for a lower price.
Comfort and fit are purely personal but for my head it was awesome; like the Boreas. I was looking for a 2nd helmet so this will fit the bill perfectly for my road bike and I'll probably wear it a lot on the mtb too.
