Strengths:
- Price
- Smooth suspension action
Weaknesses:
- Touch on the heavy side, then again I don't tend to bother ride up hills too much.
- I now want more travel!!
Similar Products Used:
Trek + kona hardtails
Bike Setup:
All stock except Marzocchi MX Pro fork. thinking of getting rid of the outer ring and replacing with bash guard.
Bottom Line:
Thats 310 pounds (£), not dollars!
Unbelievable value, yeah it may be a little heavy, the fork like a pogo stick (Dart 2)and low spec Sram shifters/derailler, but for a little over 300 quid it is an amazing deal.
I've only upgraded the fork and once you tweak the rear shock to your liking it is a quality piece of machinery. The rear end sticks to the ground and the action is smooth with no pedal bob (unless you are hammering it up hill out of the seat. The cable disks are also much better than expected.
Who cares about the latest xtr parts and featherweight carbon? this things motors through everything which at this price i didnt think possible.
Only downside is that I want more travel, although the bike is more than capable of handling the rough stuff.
Even at original rrp I don't think there is anything else which is as good as this bike. Get it!

Strengths:
I liked the hard rear shock. The handling was much better than I had read in alot of the reviews for this bike. The gear shifting was good but would slip here and there. Not a big deal. I tuned it myself and started shifting perfectly. This is my 1st mountain bike but had done off road when i was a kid all thru my teenage years on bmx bikes and have been riding a hybrid Raleigh sc30 for the last few years just for exercise but got bored of just that str8 line riding on the road. My friends have been trying to get me into Mountain biking for awhile and i finally gave in and got this bike. The price for what it delivers is not bad. My 1st ride was today at Markham Park and i must say im hooked. I already bent my rear disk when i ate the ground a few good times and i didnt even worry about it. Just bent it right back and is just fine.
Weaknesses:
Front forks are way to soft for a rider my size as opposed to its rear shock which was just right. I didnt need much experience to figure that one out for myself. The saddle can be better but its not really bad. The grips i will probably change soon as they kill my hands.

Bottom Line:
Bottom line is that in my opinion this bike is a great deal for the cash. I did everything my friend did on his $2800 bike with no problems besides eating a few times which is obviously not the bikes fault. The breaks were great, shifting was ok but could be better but not that much that id have them changed until they are useless. I would definately reccomend this bike to someone that doesnt have alot of cash to blow on a bike like me. For under 900 bucks u have a great bike. Able to do what most others can do. And the warrantee Giant gives you is not bad as well. Lifetime on the frame and i cant remember how long on parts.

For a entry level full suspension this is a good bike. Handles good and feels good. The front forks are great.
Weaknesses:
After a month I realized that when you spin the crank backwards it jumps down several gears on the rear cassette. I took it back to the bike shop and they looked at it and then they also looked at the other new bikes they had in stock and noticed they all did the same thing. The shop made me a good deal to trade in for a Trance X4 and so I did. The shop was going to speak with the Giant rep to see what can be done. They tried to replace the front chain ring and that didnt fix it and so they think it is the rear derailure but didnt want to replace parts till they see if giant will pay for fixes.
Similar Products Used:

Bottom Line:
Bike is great for entry level as long as you understand that for the cost you get entry level components. The big problem is that is jumps gears, if you find one that doesnt I say go for it but if you can fix with a better rear derailure that doesnt cost a lot then that works too.

Rear shock, bike has not exploded riding down the trail
Weaknesses:
Fork flex and adjustability, flex in rear triangle, brakes, seat clamp
Bike Setup:
Stock bike except upgraded the brakes to Juicy7s, crank to Shimano LX, and tires.
Bottom Line:
Thought I would do an updated review after having the bike for a year and a half. Problems with the rear derailur are constant. Broke the rear triangle near the pivot point at the bottom bracket but Giant covered it under warranty. Wheels are constantly needing trued. Seat works it's way down no matter how tight I get the clamp. Heavy bike. Replacing the crank lost me 2lbs over the stock bike and swapping out a better fork might loose another 2.
I should have bought a better bike if I had known I would love riding this much. This is an entry level bike and if ridden that way, will work great. I believe that I abuse the bike way too much and that is why it has failed.
Giant and Rockshox have been great with warranty issues.

Strengths:
Frame. It's heavy but could take lots of abuse and has been reliable for 9 months since I got the bike.
Weaknesses:
All the cheap components, fork, shifters, brakes, rims, and drivetrain. Weight is an issue. This bike is very heavy. Because of that, acceleration is slow and makes climbing harder.
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:
All stock components.
Bottom Line:
I don't recommend this bike. It climbs and descends poorly. The Rockshox dart 2 is not plush nor stiff at the dropouts, not to mention heavy. The chain skips once in a while and it's very hard to shift the chainrings to next higher gear. The shifting is slow and clunky. If you want to get Giant MTB then save more money and get the Trance or Anthem bikes since they got better lighter frames and components. It's a cheap bike and you get what you paid for but it's not worth it. This bike is only good for commuting, beach cruising, and very light riding on a smooth trail.

I actually purchased my first Yukon FX in Boulder Colorado, and travelled all around the USA looking for the best rides. Things did not start off very well, and after just 20 min. on my very first ride, the gears jumped, and my chain got mangled.. Not a very good start, but the shop I bought it from ( Full Circle in Boulder Co)were very helpful and fixed the gears, and put on a new chain, and i was back in buisness and since then I have never had any issues with it, and i have spent 100's of hours on extensive trails grades of anywhere between 3 and 4+
I was so pleased with the Yukon FX, that when I was in France for 6 months I purchased a new GIANT YUKON FX3 ( Online from Wiggle)
Although I cannot compare the Yukon FX to any other bike, as it is my first "Full Suspension" I am extremely pleased and happy with both price and performance, and would without hesitation highly recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable (under $1000) full suspension bike.
If I really had to change something, I would go for a new saddle, after 2-3 hours, the standard saddle becomes very uncomfortable,.. but maybe they all do..
For a photo gallery of my 2 Yukon FX's visit http://highonmountainbiking.com/giant-yukon-fx-gallery/
Without hesitation I give the GIANT Yukon FX / FX3 a full 10/10

Great entry level bike if your looking for full suspension at a cheap price. Giant stands behind all their parts and they are a good company.

Strengths:
Priced far below most entry level full suspension bikes, and much higher quality than competing models. Indestructible frame, great rims and tires, solid brakes.
Weaknesses:
The components are low quality, which is to be expected on a bike in this price range. The derailleurs require frequent adjustment and despite hours of effort I just can't get the front shock to behave like I want it to. The front brake tends to squeal any time it gets dusty.
Similar Products Used:
Kona Blast, Jamis Dakar XC, Specialized Rockhopper.
Bike Setup:
Completely stock other than a gel cover for the seat (my bony butt does not like most stock seats).
Bottom Line:
This is my first bike in 20 years, and my first full suspension model. I spent several weeks learning about modern bike technology and trying out many models before I chose this one.
I am still advancing my skill set but so far this bike has stood up to everything I've thrown at it including fast but small drops, obstacles, lots and lots of climbing, lots and lots of singletrack, etc. My riding friends all have more expensive bikes but I keep up with them.
Since the derailleurs need so much babysitting I recommend attending a bike maintenance class in your area if you don't already know how to do it.
I plan to upgrade components as they break but not until then. I only weigh 140 pounds so I can get by with the stock front shock (although I'm not quite satisfied with its adjustability) but I would fully understand if someone heavier would want to replace it early on.
Overall this bike offers a great bang for your buck and is a solid entry level model.

Weaknesses:
Fork...The Dart 2, I blew out the rebound adjustment after a couple of small drops, oil all over the place....but, it's a cheap fork, u get what u pay for. I weigh about 180lbs, and jump alot....so I have put the bike through much stress and it has held up great, except for the DART 2 fork (which wasn't made to be ridden the way I ride anyway). I have made a few upgrades like my XO derailleur, wheels, etc.. Unfortunately this is the price you pay for full-suspension. Reminded me of my vintage Diamondback Sorento with a cromoly steel frame/steel fork. This was my first experience with Sram shifters and derailers - not impressed. Sloppy, clunky. I didn't like the handling at all - not good for the occasional desert sand with very technical and rocky trails. Dart 2 fork very entry-level. I'd change this for sure.
