Strengths:Great Entry Level Full Suspension Mountain Bike For The Money.Great Frame Durabilty Been Bounced Off Cabs And Buses While Riding The Streets Of New York City 5+ Years Still Going Strong. The Components Can Easily Be Upgraded To A Lighter Faster Cross Country Steed Cheaply Making A Good Bike A Much Better Bike
Weaknesses:To Heavy For Intended Purpose Cross Country Race Bike. Front Fork Isn't That Great Depending On How Or Where Riding May Need To Upgrade Fork On Bike For Better Small/Large Bump Compliance. I Totally Suggest Upgrading To Avid BB7 Disc Brakes.Good Brakes Are Definitely Recommended No Matter Where Or How You Ride.
Similar Products Used:Some Crappy Pacific Bike That Lasted Maybe 6 Months. Raleigh M30.
Bike Setup:Kept Bike Stock Except For The WTB Dual Duty Freeride Wheels Damaged Original Wheels Side Jumping A Side Walk Moving Out Of A Speeding Yellow Cabs Way Versatrac 2.0 Kevlar Belt Tires, Avid BB7 Disc Brakes,Topeak Fenders,DB4LW Speedometer, Slime Tire Liners, Slime Resealable InnerTubes Due To The Amount Of Glass On The Streets Of New York.I No Longer Worry About Flats Now. I Haven't Had To Change A Tire In 4+ Years With The Set Up I Have On My Wheels.
Bottom Line:Alright When Used For The Intended Purpose Of Cross Country Racing The Bike Is A Bit Heavy But Excels For Intended Use. Its Also A Capable Downhill Rig, Freeride, Dirt Jump Bike But I Wouldn't Recommend Using It For Those Purpose More Then Once. Depending One Maybe One Time To Many For Those Other Options. My Frame With Me On It Has Been Bounced Off City Buses And Yellow Cabs God Only Knows How Many Times. Got Hit By A Speeding Ambulance Once Bent My Wheel Before I Got The WTB Dual Duty Rims.A Few Scratches. No Cracks Or Dents In It. The Frame Is Great Unless You Have A Specific Need. You Just May Have To Upgrade Some Of The Components To Suit Your Specific Needs

Strengths:strong frame...stock rear shock is actually usable, shorter chainstays as well as decent shock make it a pretty decent climber...
Weaknesses:stock parts are pretty weak, but then again that's how they meet this price point. fork is crap and frame flexes a little from side to side. also kinds noisy
Similar Products Used:proflex 656, K2 3000, cannondale RUSH, weyless 67
Bike Setup:Kingpin stance triple crown, mavic crossland UST, truative cranks, full 2006 xt group (dual control hydros, derailers, cassette, rings, chain), maxxis Maxx lite tires, spd pedals
Bottom Line:Great starting bike for first timers, though once upgraded it makes for a really nice ride. I was getting really bad chainsuck until i got my drivetrain dialed in, once the limit screws were set right...it never missed a beat. I have heard bad things about both the WARP and the Kingpin Stance and i gotta say...I love then both! they both require setting up, before they function, but dollar for dollar together they make the best valued bike around. throw in a high end groupo and you're keeping up with your friends on their $2000+ bikes. I call this bike my "orphan bike" because every part of it i got cheap from some who just didn't want to take care care it. the frame from someone who bought a santa cruz, the fork from someone who popped a $10 seal, the entire groupo from someone who likes "trigger shifters", the wheels from someone who wanted something black...all together i spent $500 and my LBS says it rides as good as anything on their floor (cheapest is $1200)

Strengths:I love it all but the fork. The frame and rear shock are great and handle well. The frame has a lifetime warranty.
Weaknesses:The fork is junk, but I replaced them. Cranks are square taper but they haven't failed... yet
Bike Setup:Warp frame, original cranks, FOX Float RL forx, Shimano XT hydraulic disc, XTR 6in rotors, XT deraillers, XT dual control levers, XT centerlock hubs, Sram 11-32 cassette, Sun rhyno-lite rims.
Bottom Line:I upgraded my bike because I wanted to not because i had to. The forks are easy to bottom if you drop more than a foot or two, but you can get a nice fork for a few hundred bucks. I would have loved to get a Reign or something made for All-mountain but I didn't have the money at the time. But, do I regret not waiting and getting a better bike... NO WAY!!! For the $1400 (all together) I have spent on this bike, I can't find a better one. I love the components, the frame is plenty strong for a good 6-7ft drop, and the brakes have way exceeded my expectations. I can bomb a hill and the brakes are fine. No wash out. I would give the Warp 10 flamin turds if I could. If you find one you won't be disappointed. This is the best $500 F/S bike you can buy.

Bottom Line:with the right parts this bike is as good as a joker or foes single pivot.short chain stay makes it climb and not unweight the rear wheel. slack head angle allows you to go down very steep almost like a dh rig. this bike is very stiff and can be thrown around on drops and bumps.this bike just feels very secure in any situation.i ride a joker, enduro pro, giant ac,. the warp is siffer than the enduo or the ac, climbs better than the ac and is all around a little better than the joker.

Weaknesses:RST forks.
Bike Setup:Warp DS-2, Avid BB7 disk, Fox Float 130mm fork, WTB Laserdisc/Mavic 317 Wheels.
Bottom Line:For 500 dollars this bike is awesome. The forks need upgraded, but you can get a Marzocchi fork for 200 bucks. I went a little overboard with the Fox Float, but after riding this bike I couldn't justify another 700 for the Reign. It was nice but so was the Warp. The disc brake will be on soon but aren't required for the bike to be enjoyable. I just wanted disc brakes. THIS IS BY NO MEANS A PRO BIKE SO I DON'T RATE IT AS SUCH. THIS IS AN ENTRY LEVEL FULL SUSPENSION BIKE. (BUT IN MY OPINION IT COULD HOLD ITS OWN)...

Strengths:A bike you don't feel bad about hammering until you have to beat the rims on the ground to straighten them and your frame breaks. even with a cracked swingarm it took more abuse than I thought before snapping comnpletely.
I guess the only strenght abouth this bike is that it is full suspension, isn't steel or cromoly, and wasn't made for wal-mart.
Weaknesses:I agree with the other Corey that this bike is not intended for extensive jumping or downhill. I also busted my rear swingarm and had to replace my cranks, pedals, tires, BB, seatpost, handlebar, and upgrade to a heavire coil to avoid bottoming out on larger drops and reduce the pogo effect.

Bottom Line:good bike to ride when you're angry but don't try to go up or down anything for extended periods of time or you will be throwing off a cliff so you don't have to carry it down after something breaks. if you buy this bike plan on wanting more but you won't get it for the price.

Favorite Trail:Bataan, La Mesa
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $338.00
Purchased At:some bike shop
Strengths:For the frame: nice glossy looks, strong, sturdy frame, OK enough to slap quality parts and components
Weaknesses:primitive design, heavy
Similar Products Used:Doesn't matter. A bunch of hardtails
Bike Setup:Rockshox Tora 318 U-turn (formerly Zokes Drop-Off comp), DNM RC Burner, XT and Deore parts, WTB Mutanoraptor and Motoraptor tires, Sun Ringle Singletrack rims, WTB Rocket V, Ringle Evolution bar, Da Bomb parts, Avid BB7 DBs
Bottom Line:I'm reviewing the Warp DS3 '04 frame only. All DS frames are practically the same that's why I'm putting this here coz it doesn’t make much difference anyway and more importantly there’s no DS3 ‘04 product to review.Side story: I'm not sure whether the DS3 is available in the Asian region only coz based from Giant's 04 catalogue, they only sell the DS1 and DS2 models. (I’m from the Philippines by the way.)

Anyway the frame came with a rear shock that was a complete POf*kinS: cheap elastomers (no coils) housed in an air shock-like casing instead of the standard HV coil shock (which incidentally got mostly positive reviews as a stock component) I dunno if this is a 'cost-cutting measure' of the distributor or if it is the SOP for DS3 models in Asia, but in any case it sucks A$$. Anyway, the cheap "MDU" proprietary “shock” died on me on one long, mildly-technical DH run. I've since replaced it with the DNM RC Burner, which is a cheap but excellent, if heavy, performing plush shock.

The frame is highly underrated compared to more advanced FS frame designs. I've set up my Warp as an all-around trail/play bike so it can pretty much do everything I 'ask' it to: three foot drops, small dirt jumps and urban action, DH runs, XC and single track forays, and even moderate spinning on the road at times.

The Warp used to be very ideal for my ‘kind’: an aggressive trail rider with modest intermediate skills and who wants to do a little of everything (yet mostly leaning towards the 'aggro')

Lately however I'm having a hard time using it on epic all mountain rides (my preferred riding style as of late) or even rides that last beyond five hours so I am now considering to upgrade to a real all-mountain design if the moolah comes soon enough. But it had been very good to me and I could never take that away

Favorite Trail:Local off-road
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $500.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Price, quality frame, mediocre components
Stock disc mounts front and rear
Full Suspension
Weaknesses:Mediocre components can be upgraded as you see fit and they wear out. Somewhat heavy.
The Warp line is being discontinued by Giant. Get them while you still can.
Similar Products Used:Test rode probably 20+ bikes. Trek, Cannondale, Specialized, Gary Fisher, Diamondback, etc. There are better full suspension bikes but they are either MUCH more expensive or utter rubbish (Wal-Mart Bikes).
Bike Setup:Currently stock but planning upgrades.
Bottom Line:Outstanding full suspension bike for XC/Rough Trails. For the price its unbeatable. Makes for a great fun off-road bike where the full-suspension keeps the bone jarring to acceptable levels. Easily rides over logs, rocks, roots, normal drops, with NO problems. You do need to spend the time to properly setup the suspension with the proper preloads and dampening. Doing so eliminates most (but not all) of the bobbing effect and gives you a great smooth ride over very rough terrain.

Overall, very satisfied with my purchase and look forward to lots more riding and upgrades.

Ignore the reviews from people that are surprised their $500 entry-level bike couldn't take race tracks and 9' drops to flat. It's not a $X000 race, downhill, freeride bike. Duh!

Bottom Line:Dont buy this bike unless you want to spend way more money on it than its worth. Its fine if you dont plan on doing anything bigger than rolling off of a curb. but if you plan on gapping 14 stair sets then your going to snap the frame. but the bike is fine after you replace EVERYTHING.

Strengths:This bike is kick ass... very strong frame. This bike takes abuse like no other this price range. All the components are durable.
Weaknesses:none so far.
Bike Setup:I've keept it stock mostly, I added an odometer and clips. I dont feel the need to upgrade or change any parts as I've done in the past with other bikes. The parts in this bike are quality, I'll keep the setup as is for now. I have the stealth black and it's beautifull. I get copmplements on it all the time.
Bottom Line:Great all around mountain bike. I ride complex trails with a lot of speed zones and downhill terrain. This bike is perfect for me as it can handle and adapt well to multiple trail types. Strengths:Frame and fork take a decent beating. Stealth Black color rocks.
Weaknesses:Stock Parts i.e. shifters, cranks, tires.(Which can be changed, you don't have to sufer or complain, just upgrade)
Similar Products Used:Crap Department store bike.

Bottom Line:This is an update from my earlier review. It's been two years and the frame is still fine, had no experience with broken frames. I work as a bike mechanic and our shop has sold a few of these and they have never come back with any structural problems. Upgraded to XT and changed out other components for my specific likings and needs. I'm 6'1" and ride on a 20.5" frame. The fork can be upgraded, but i've used and maintained it with no problems on the trail. Giant bikes have a tendency of their cranks loosing a bit with heavy use, just need to pay attention to your bike and do pre-ride checks, like you should do. Rear shcok is adjustable and has more travel than you need for a XC bike. Good for light Downhill, nothing extreme, if you wanna jumps off cliffs, buy a D.H. bike. at $550 don't expect to be buying an indestructable tank, respect the fact that it has limitations. It is for XC and Trail use, if you want to do more, than pay more or upgrade and don't complain about the quality. "You get what you pay for", ring a bell? This is a great bike fo the money. Final verdict, you're paying for a entry level F.S. XC bike, not a $2,000+ Freeride bike.

Strengths:review for the warp limited canyon. looks cool as it's all stealth black. great entry level, great price for full susp. rear shock adjustment good, has rebound adjustment(tho lil tough to get your fingers in there to adjust). seems to be a tough frame, has a lifetime warranty.
Weaknesses:kinda loud and clancky, put chainstay, no change in noise. weaker components, but it is only a $500 bike so i guess I should give it a pass, and they still are alivio/acera so not bottom of the barrell. rims on canyon limited are weaker due to their "gapping" of the spokes. seat not to impressive, grips wear quickly.
Similar Products Used:department store bike. test rode trek fuel..yuk diamondback coil...waste ... these are your choices in this price range..giant warp best buy in my opinion.
Bike Setup:changes drivetrain to deore xt(smooth shiftin') bought a set of road tires for the stock rims, and a set of rino lites with knobs for off road, odi rogue lock grips.
Bottom Line:traded in the stock parts when i bought the bike and upgraded the drivetrain immediately, and bought the continental street tires also..thus $600.
this is a great bike...just compare the other full susp. bikes in this price range and i'm sure you'll agree...of course it can't compare to a $1000+ bike...simply because it isn't, but it is upgradable, lifetime war. frame, fun as hell to ride, great entry level, budget minded full susp. bike. will upgrade front fork later down the road, and probably pedals and done. if you aren't a hard core biker, this will do the trick at a resonable price.

I read alot of bad reviews of this bike, and I don't see what those people are complaining about. I think they just dont like the fact that this isnt a $1000 or more bike. (The more expensive, the better...huh. Ignorance!)This is a good entry level bike for someone who wants full suspension but does'nt have a high paying job. Strengths:This is a review for a 2002 Giant Warp DS3 with teh 2004 DS2 frame.

The fork is good until you bomb it the first time, then it sucks. The components will last for a little while then they're no good. I liked the width of the handle bars and they stil holding strong. The value is good for a month then it's a piece....
Weaknesses:SO MUCH!!! The frame broke, and I sucka t riding compared to a lot of people. The components are so entry level, and I got ripped off spent 900 for it canadian. After some wear the bike is screwing up my crank arms are bent the arms keep coming lose. I'm on my third cassette because it keeps getting torn up by the tourque I give it.

The rims spokes always break, and the *double wall" rims keep getting bent. CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!!!!!!!!!! Bottom Line:This is a follow up from my last review. It still bobs, but ive learned to turn smooth circles, and it is hardly noticacle. Let me say that I have you this bike for more than it is prescribed to do. Ive done countless drops to flat which no fully should be put through, and ive jumped hard, and cased a lot more than any bike should be cased, let alone a little trail bike like this. This bike has been up to the task, but first, let me list everything ive broken: the brakes, rims, derailer, grips, and just today, i snapped the fork. With some cheap upgrades, this bike will take anything short of downhill and freeride.

Bottom line: if your not downhilling or freeriding, get this.

Strengths:-Frame Strength
-Adaptability (Disc Brake Ready)
-Smooth Ride
-Lifetime Guarantee on Frame
Weaknesses:-Weight (Too heavy, even for a Full-Suspension Bike)
-Fork (Couldn't upgraded to a RockShox fork for the money)
-Light Bob in suspension (Easily cured by adjusting the suspension)
Similar Products Used:First 'Bike Shop' Bike, Others Ridden:
-GT Palomar
-AMX Full Suspension (Department Store bike with a Rock-Shox Judy tt Fork, stock, not bad for $299)
Bike Setup:Upgraded from Stock:

-Shifters
-Crank
-F&R Derailluers
Thompson Components:
- Elite Seatpost
- Elite Stem
Easton
- Monkey Lite XC Bars
Bottom Line:For $550, a great starting point for good quality Full-suspension. Would like to have seen a better Fork selection for the money, even if it was a little extra. Like a little more adjustment on placement of rear shock, instead of just choice of two slots (4" or 5" of travel). The pedal bob is not significant, and can be tuned to not be an annoyance. Frame is dusable and strong. Good all around bike for weekend warriors or part-time riders. I swapped out my Knobby's for Slics (Hemisphere Armadillo's) for when i need to ride to work (Road/ Asphalt travel) and i've had to trouble with the transition. Adjustments can be made for the'phantom shifting' which i've had little trouble with. All in all, a good bike for the price, and like anything it can be upgraded to the user's liking.

Bottom Line:I bought this as a frame only, so I can't comment on the stock component setup. I do know this frame is tough. I have built a 5-6 ft drop in my back yard(depending on how hard you hit it) and it has survived a hundred or so of those without complaint. I also put on over 500 miles of single track since I have completed the bike. Never a problem. If you feel the bike has twist in the frame try tightening the pivot bearings. When mine was loose it felt like frame twist, and had no telltale clunk from a loose bearing. Overall I feel this is the best frame in the world for the money. There are stronger and lighter out there, but not for less thea triple the price. Rear suspension is also much active some of the fully suspended bikes I have ridden.

Price Paid: $460.00
Purchased At:Performance
Strengths:Price/value. This bike can not be beat for an entry level offering into full suspension. Far exceeds what one might purchase for a similar price at sporting goods stores, and certainly better than what the WalMarts of the world offer.
Weaknesses:Weight. Front shock and drive train components will need to be upgraded at some point. I'd like wider tires, personally.
Similar Products Used:Older Giant Yukon, Schwinn
Bike Setup:Stock stealth black setup with Performance Forte' clipless pedals, Profile bar ends.
Bottom Line:(I mistakenly posted this with the 2002 model year bikes so I'm re-posting here. DOH!)

Again, an excellent choice for those of us new to full suspension and beginning to get more serious about mountain biking. Two and a half years ago I bought a $130 Schwinn at WalMart, and took it back the same day. I went to my local bike shop the next day and bought a used Giant Yukon and rode it up until a few months back. I was intending to buy an '04 Yukon until I tested the '04 Warp DS2.

This bike has made all the difference in the world in my rides. I have improved my riding technique and gained confidence in conquering logs, rocks and other obstacles I would have walked around in the past. I go 250 lbs, and while the bike is a bit weighty, it's perfect for someone of my size. I'd probably break anything lighter.

Many have written that the bike's front shock is bad, and understandably so. Giant needs to keep a price point on the Warp line, so component selection on the DS2 refelcts that. I get some chatter and phantom shifting on the drive train, and am hoping that an initial tune up will correct these problems. I've had no problem with the fork.

While I recognize the limitations of the stock components, I'm in no hurry to preplace anything yet. As they wear out or break, I'll replace with upgrades. I'm figuring that if I shop around and make my purchases wisely (as I feel I have in buying this bike) I can upgrade to disc brakes, a better front shock and drive train components ( better than the DS1, in fact) and still keep my total investment at less than $1000.00. In the end, I'll have upgraded a pretty damned good bike to an even better ride.

Bottom line, this bike is an excellent choice for it's intended market. This is a real full-suspension bike for beginners who want to develop into intermediate riders. I affords you the opportunity to make a minimal initial investment, and upgrade as you find the need. I'm quite certain that for weekend warriors, the bike will be a long lasting bike if well maintained.

I'll follow up this time next year and see if I still feel the same about the bike.

Bottom Line:This bike is a great start into the world of real full suspension. If you've never ridden a full suspension bike that wasn't from a toystore than this bike will feel like a cadillac. The fork and wheels should be upgraded once you progress, I sandwiched my front wheel and bent my fork on a simple small stairset. Although heavy it can really move if you have the power to make it, I can keep up with traffic around town although with a larger chainring in the front it'd be easier. It seems to be able to handle fairly large hits, the largest drop I've done so far is just over 3 feet to flat and the bike didnt seem to have a problem with it (just remember to lower the seat before you do anything like that or you could end up hurting more than the bike). Overall I'm happy with the bike even though I've spent more than twice it's original price in upgrades, I've been told that it really isn't a good idea to take this bike on any serious downhill or freeride course though as the frame will snap, fold, bend, you get the idea. Just keep any drops under 8 or 9 feet and you should be fine. If you never progress to get into extreme riding then this bike is also well built for handling the road. Hope this helped and hope you enjoy your bike!

-Extremely Heavy
-Only 24 Speed
-Alivio Components

For me this bike got a crack in the frame after two weeks of hard riding and the parts have already started to wear after some serious riding, only thing interesting was the frame. I will continue to use my Trek Fuel 100 for racing but for all of you amateur riders I suggest you do not buy this bike.

- Hopefully upgrade to a 9-speed cassette if you have the money
- Change brakes
Bottom Line:Bad bike for anyone who rides more than twice a week..but excellent bike for those looking for a good bike that they will ride occasionally. During my testing of the bike, going into the singletrack is torture for this bike, get a hardtail or a better full suspension bike instead of this one.

Weaknesses:Shocks sucks nuts. Crank broke off first 2 weeks out. Handle bars snapped in half. It's heavy. The back suspension bottems out non stop and tightning it just throws you over the bars off even the simplest 4 foot drop.
Bottom Line:It's not worth spending on. The components are cheap and just the overall bike is very brittle. Seems the smallest 5 mph wipe outs run you up $100 to fix something up. I guess it's a good entry level bike, but other than that, it's pretty much junk. Spend your money elsewhere, even if you have to pay $50 more, it'll be worth it.
