$1000.00 | | Purchased At: | Jack's Bicicle | | Weaknesses: | Brakes wear out too fast and difficult to replace (even dealer did not do it). Just broke frame - rear fork in a weld. Possible manufacturer's fault - most of the pipe probably was not ever welded (fresh break only on two short lines) | | Bottom Line: | Would not buy this Warp DS-1 again, or if I would, so with much better and tougher components. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1000.00 | | Purchased At: | Ziggy's Cycles | | Strengths: | - Most things on the bike were still in tact. I had gotten a tuneup and replaced the shifters, cables, chain, and grips. This was last week | | Weaknesses: | - The cranks were pretty crappy actualy, after close to a year's wear they had gotten weak, I could tell when riding it | | Similar Products Used: | - none, again only supercycles | | Bike Setup: | - pretty much stock except for those small components mentione above | | Bottom Line: | - Well, it's me again, I had submitted a review last year (which can be seen above) and guess what! MY BIKE GOT STOLENT TWO NIGHTS AGO!!!! - I'm so mad, I really hate this world now. I had worked so hard to put money away for it and some punk just came by my work and cut my lock off. Yes, it's partialy my fault for having a not so good lock and partialy my work's fault for not really monitering the cameras on a daily basis. Whatever, I'm just pissed right now, sorry for wasting space
*** One tip! Don't skimp out on a lock, and make sure you get a good quality one that you know will be hard enoough for someone to be noticed if they try to break through. I'm looking into buying another bike now, next time the same mistake will not be made. Have fun riding all and remember, guard your bike. As my teacher says, locks are meant for honnest people to stay out, the ones who want to get in will find a way in. Cheers. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$660.00 | | Purchased At: | Center Cycle | | Strengths: | Looks cool Rides nice With new tires the rear grips the ground nicely Takes descent hits | | Weaknesses: | Fork blows, locks up and doesn't budge. Cupple hard days of constant riding later is semi soft again Rear shock bottoms out to easy Cheep rims bend easy, not enough to effect anything, just a slight wobble No grip on pedals Chain likes to snap
| | Similar Products Used: | Anything close in price | | Bike Setup: | Marzocchi Drop Off Triple, Maxxis Mobsters/Minions, hopefully soon 5th Element and new pedals. | | Bottom Line: | Nice beginner bike. Great value. If get it cheap, hard not to, drop some new forks on it before you leave the parking lot. Most of the other components are great. You get a little noise from the crank set when your in first but who cares. Its a nice bike for an outstanding price. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1000.00 | | Purchased At: | Bob's | | Strengths: | Inexpensive and still fairly well equipped. A little bit on the heavy side, but you can hang a few good/lighter components on this frame without feeling like you've wasted money. | | Weaknesses: | The front fork broke in two pieces during my first season. The manufacturer fixed it. The front fork adjustments are plastic and break easily/often but the dealer replaced the first 4 knobs. Coil spring is made for someone who only weighs 160 lbs. I'm 6'0" 105 lbs. and had to get a stronger spring. | | Similar Products Used: | I've used quite a few. | | Bike Setup: | Stock set up + swapped out the following parts: Mavic F219 Wheels mated with Shimano XT hubs, MonketLight XC riser bar, XTR Chain, Stronger coil spring, Shimano M545 pedals, WTB light weight seat. | | Bottom Line: | The bike is really nice, but not meant for big jumps. I've taken it easy on it and gotten by with only a broken front fork. (manufacturer fixed it for free) Now that I'm a much better rider than I was several years ago, since this bike weighs in at about 30 lbs., I may sell it and build a bike in the 23 lb. range. All-in-all it's a good bike, meant for aggressive cross country riding, but not big jumps. It's good as a beginning bike, but as you improve your skills you may want a lighter, faster, sleeker bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$776.00 | | Purchased At: | Bicology | | Strengths: | well equiped for price. I've had it for a weekend, so not much else known. | | Weaknesses: | geometry. for us shorter people who bought the bike because it's the smalles frame, when you shorten the seat post to the correct height, it reduces the stand over height, because of the sharp angle of the top tube. I'm 5'6" and when i jump off seat, my crotch is only 1" above angle. I had to move the seat back as far as possible to increas this standover height. | | Bike Setup: | stock | | Bottom Line: | I have to see how it rides still, but am concerned about the height. I think Giant should come out with a 14" model for those of us who are shorter. I like it the most out of all I tested at the store, so I guess I can't complain. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1400.00 | | Purchased At: | Ziggy's Cycles | | Strengths: | -Frame - Avid Disks - TAKES A BEATING - Rockshox Fork Judy is great | | Weaknesses: | - The dial on the fork for the adjustable travel is too easy to break, its ok though, my bike shop covered it. - Oh and i dont know if this is normal but i was riding and my bolts from the disks fell off, after a ride i noticed loosness and there were 2 out of 8 left, and those were already finger loose! Bike shop covered that too but i will locktight them and tighten them more often :) - Seat (WTB Stock) was very hard on my ass, i had to change back to my Canadian tire Schwinn seat and it was more confortable. | | Similar Products Used: | None other than supercycle ): | | Bike Setup: | All stock except seat changed to one from my other bike Cateye light on front and red blinky light on back... Also a PROTECTOR mud fender which saved my back from flying mud on all the rides | | Bottom Line: | Bottom line is this, if you are a beginner, just getting into the sport or want an upgrade worthy bike at a decent price, than GET THIS BIKE! Forget all of the other people who say the fork sucks or the frame is too light... I just arrived from a week and a half trip from New brunswick and Quebec and rode the hell out of it with my friend in all of the trails, trust me this thing can take a beating. From dirt jumps, to rocky full speed downhill to 3 foot deep puddles, the thing is running like a charm with regular maintenance. For my first real bike, i am in love with it. Go with the Warp DS1, it is worth the extra bucks over the DS2 thanks to the better fork and the Avid disk brakes, i need to say no more. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$850.00 | | Purchased At: | Two Wheels | | Strengths: | i love this bike! well at least the frame. i have beat'n this thing up and the only thing that i have had to replace is the bottom bearing. i do lot of x-country, play park and down hilling and this frame taken a lick'n and kept in tick'n as the say'n goes. On top of all that the supension is great, lots of it and very abjustable, plus it look freak'n cool, nice design! | | Weaknesses: | FORKS, get new ones! the shocks on it are good for XC but really get worked on big drops and downhill rocky trials. the bike is a bit heavy but it is good for building more leg strenght, look at the positive! | | Similar Products Used: | Specilized, Trekk | | Bike Setup: | I went to hydro discs and Boxxer forks, thicker rims and 2.4"tires for lots of softness in the bumps and drops. works well. | | Bottom Line: | YOU CAN'T BEAT THE PRICE FOR WHAT YOU GET! even stock you can go hard and have a ton of fun. i am a pretty heavy guy and ride fairly hard and tech. trails and the bike hasn't failed me yet. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$850.00 | | Purchased At: | Jone II Bicycles | | Strengths: | Excellent beginners bike off the store shelves. Axles bearings ride with almost no resistance and its seals keep the debris out well. WTB Weirwolf tires have insane grip cornering loose ground with ease and confidence. Front Shocks absorb bumps and drops creating a comfortably reasonable ride. | | Weaknesses: | Avid Brakes are just decent. Crankset makes funny noise at highest gear and looks tacky with the chainguard. Frame looks great and takes hard hits, but its weight is on the heavy side. | | Similar Products Used: | 2003 Giant DS3, Peugeot Road Bike, Pacific 5000, Huffy mountain bike, and earliest BMX. | | Bike Setup: | Upgraded to Hayes HFX-9 Hydraulic brakes, Shimano Deore crankset and Shimano SPD pedals. Cut off Excess seat post. I particularly like to ride with my settings at a long travel setting for my shocks, although I set my rear shocks to the 4" travel setting since I'm a light 150 lbs. | | Bottom Line: | Giant makes excellent bikes for their value. You get what you pay for and when you have the money for it you can really get a exceptional bike from Giant. The Warp DS1 is an excellent beginners mountain bike although some components can use upgrading, but if in that case you might as well put in the cash to buy the next level up. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$900.00 | | Purchased At: | Honest Bike Shop | | Strengths: | The DS1 has a superior fluid formed frame, that is worth the weight. The addition of the disc brakes on the DS1 versus the DS2 creates a large gap between the two bikes. Rides very nice. The adjustable 4-5" travel in the rear suspension is critical. | | Weaknesses: | I experienced difficulties with the rear spokes coming loose after a few days of riding, along with some play in the crank creating a noticeable noise. The manufacturer's rims are significantly weaker than replaceable ones. The tires don't fit the rim perfect and creates a slightly noticeable wiggle. | | Bike Setup: | I prefer my bike setup rather stiff...I adjusted rear shock to the 4" travel, and tightened the ring a few turn clockwise creating yet a stiffer ride. When I do make it to my offroad destination, I loosen it up a little bit. I also prefer to adjust my front travel as high as it goes. | | Bottom Line: | This bike is better than any "walmart" bike, but I have noticed that I have to be careful as to how hard I am on the bike. The bike is very flashy and gets the ladies attention! Put a few stickers on it to give it a little character. I have took this bike off of 3-5 foot drops and bike seems to recover alright. I have done some pretty crazy downhill racing with some bodies, and I don't have a problem keeping up to there Specialized bikes, such as the BigHit(which is specifically a downhill bike). | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$850.00 | | Purchased At: | Fart's Cyclery, SLO | | Strengths: | Good for the entry-level dual suspension rider. Being the fact that it's a tank, it'll mash over just about anything, and the fact that you can adjust the rear travel is an added touch. | | Weaknesses: | The factory bottom bracket is crap, the bike as a whole is a little on the heavy side, weighing in at close to 37 lbs. I'm not a fan of Rock Shox, so the fork had to go. I feel like I"m constantly maintaining it, and if there were a scale for reliability, I think it'd be towards the bottom. | | Similar Products Used: | This is the first dually that I've owned, but have ridden many. | | Bike Setup: | Ritchey risers, Mazocchi DJ 1 front fork (love it), Deore compnents (blow), Avid mechanical discs (8" front, 6" rear), Tioga Factory DH tires, 2.3" f, 2.1" r. | | Bottom Line: | This bike took a lot of getting used to initially, for it's a lot of bike to handle. It was my first full-sus, and during the 6 mos that I've owned it, I've realized it's limitataions. I'd reccommend it for the weekend worrior who likes to hit it somewhat big, but for someone who spends 15-20 hrs a week in the saddle, it's sorely lacking in the 'all-around' department, the first drawback being the weight. The swing-arm/frame attachment started out prety solid, but has progressively gotten looser, and keeps on doing so with repeated tightening, and I feel like I'm fighting the bike more often these days. It's not nearly as pleasureable to ride as it once was.
