I have been seriously considering buying a higher-end bike because my bike is old and still stock - ie no suspension at all. However, at the bike show I picked up some Pyslo forks and disc brakes and am now bound and determined to save my bike for years of more riding. This year I will add disc brakes, new headsets, and front suspension. Next year new shifters, cogs, cranks and more! Love this bike more all the time. I'm sure there are tons of better bikes out there but this one has never done me wrong. Sturdy and light, compact frame, nice enough to look at. | | Weaknesses: | I guess it came with some low end components, but mine was set up nicely when I got it. Otherwise I can't find any except a sort of mass produced look. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Rock Hopper, Jamis Dakar Comp (older version). | | Bike Setup: | LX fr and rr d's, BB, shifters and brakes, Truvativ Firex SL crank, Judy w/Eglund air carts, eggbeaters, Ritchey Speedmax, Mavic/Parallax wheelset...i.e., everything upgraded. | | Bottom Line: | I don't trash my bikes or look for ways to end up in the hospital, but I do put up an average of 150 miles every week all year long. This bike has held up wonderfully, with almost no maintenance, over a variety of terrain, and is always ready when I am. The stock Tires that came with it are nice and grippy and work alright. | | Weaknesses: | It has reall bad brakes that are very hard to adjust. Also the fork sucks ( i got a Mazorochi Z.1 X-fly on the way to replace it) the stx-rc aren't very good either. It's a good XC bike to start with, it got some good components for the money.
The Selle Royal saddle was a very bad choice by Giant; it broke in 2 pieces.

So I also upgraded. | | Bike Setup: | After I upgraded I had a Manitou X-Vert on the front, Almost all XT compnents. Some Ti here and there. New Tires and wheels. | | Bottom Line: | This is a great bike for someone who wants to get into racing. It sold for a great price and could make a entry level rider fairly competitive. i have an atx 860 that i got several years ago it is nice but i upgraded alot to an xtr/xt gruppo and an sc70 on the front it is nicer now and if you buy the bike without upgrades as is it is a great entry level racing bike! | | Overall Rating: |
