Date Reviewed: August 2, 2001
Favorite Trail:don valley single track
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1100.00
Purchased At:Cycle Solutions
Strengths:This frame is identical to the ATX 890, the ATX 860 is different. Just by looking at this frame, it boasts a ton of quality crafstmanship, beutiful welds, great geometry, very light, pretty strong....
Weaknesses:Havn't found any yet
Similar Products Used:Giatn ATX 890
Bike Setup:ATX 870 frame, race face crank, seatpost, handle bars, stem, psylo XC shock, Excalibur downhill rims, Huge tioga downhill tires, avid mechanical brakes
Bottom Line:When I wanted a new bike, I looked at the ATX 890, the ATX 870 frame is identical in every way, the only difference is components and paint, so it is the top of the line Giant hardtail. Since I was custom building this bike to be a XC/FreeRide monster it was the perfect frame for me. I threw the beefiest lightweight components on it that I could, with the downhill rims, and freeride fork holding the bike up, I simply changed the stem and handle bars to race face prodigy components (to match the crank and give me some rise) and voila.... I can keep up with almost any XC racer, yet I am able to do all the jumps and drops of a freerider. If your in the T.O area, send me an email, we'll go for a ride and you can see my setup. Cheers to the boys at cycle solutions for helping me put this dream together, they gave quality advice, and set this thing up sweet! It's nice to be able to deal with a bike shop that actually knows what riders put their bikes through, as they all do it themselves, it kinda stinks when you have to deal with some weekend warrior that rides a Canadian Tire bike.... Ride fast, ride hard, just don't ride off the side of the mountain....!

Bottom Line:bought an atx 870 frame, put a psylo xc, race face crank, stem and bars, downhill rims and disc brakes on it... simply know this, this bike is completely wicked it is very very fast, yet handles like a jet fighter in the air... it has blown my mind...
