Date Reviewed: October 4, 2009
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $90.00
Purchased At:Bicycle Planet
Strengths:Good price, came with both tires and sealant for under $100. Strong sidewalls,
good grip in all general conditions.
Weaknesses:Super tight bead on the bontrager 29" rims. Had to work hard, but got 'em on.
Similar Products Used:Many tires
Bike Setup:Gary Fisher Paragon
Bottom Line:These grip well in anything. Today I hit sand, mud, roots and rocks, pebbles and loose crumbly uphills...never failed me. They air up really well as tubeless, and in two weeks only lost a pound at the most. If you're looking for a good overall tire for a little of everything, this is a solid well made tire for a decent price. Make sure you have strong tire levers! 4 chilis for tough tight installation.
Getting 'em off with be a challenge.

Favorite Trail:Today it's Apex
Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:Ebay
Strengths:Nice grip on loose over harpack. Sharp rocks and impacts do not phase it. Wears well.
Weaknesses:Looks wimpy. But rides like the warrior Zena.
Similar Products Used:Conti's, specialized- bad wear, geax (good), wtb's (good & heavy)
Bike Setup:Ti 69er hardtail with 5" travel.
Bottom Line:Great tire! But it on and forget about it. Corners, slams without a hitch and holds air like a free diver. I use the 29" 2.2 and usually like a wider tire up front, but it tracts and feels like a 2.4. I got a box full of tires and will probably buy another when this one goes.

Strengths:2.2 cushy volume, tacky rubber, wide footprint great for loose over concrete hardpack.Nice sidewalls.
Weaknesses:This tire rolls quiet&smooth but not necessary fast.Rubber compound and squirmy knobs make it slower than it appears.A little on the heavy side but not bad.Tacky mud.
Similar Products Used:every tire known to man.
Bottom Line:For me this tire is a one trick pony(loose over hardpack)Here in Arkansas we have all sorts of varied terrain but it never really showed that"all terain"reputation it's known for. It's not slow or fast just somewhere in between.Cornering is is a mixed bag of tricks due to some knob squirm...inconsistent.Makes handling slightly sluggish, again due to compound.Good traction on marbles & gravel. Not that fast on pavement. When someone ask me about these tires I usaully say,"eeehhh...they're O.K.!"

Strengths:Great tire on the road and in the woods here in Texas.
Weaknesses:None so far, but I will update once I have more time on them.
Similar Products Used:Just the stock Exiwolf's
Bike Setup:Monocog 29'er BB7's w'jagwire ripcords....everything else is stock.
Bottom Line:I put these tires on and instantly recognized the difference. I am running 26" slime lites in them and they are a great rolling tire. I haven't really pushed them in the woods yet, but I must say these have been a great purchase already.

Purchased At:breakaway bikes, roh
Strengths:I used the 29er version. Great on hard pack and suprisingly did great in tahoe (rocky, loose).
Very fast rolling with great traction.
Weaknesses:People might complain it wont last long, but that's a sign of a good riding tire. Better on front than rear.
Similar Products Used:wtb mutano, nevegal, many maxxis tires
Bike Setup:niner SS, and Niner Rip 9
Bottom Line:Great tire for racing but not limited to a racer. Great traction for fast rolling tire. You will gain confidence in tire if you push them hard.

Favorite Trail:Hither Woods, Montauk, NY
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $30.00
Purchased At:Westwood Cycle
Strengths:FAST! Decent grip so far.
Weaknesses:Minor rear wheel spin while climbing out of the saddle. Might not be a problem with gears, but on a single speed, momentum is everything and when that wheel spins, it just kills the climb.
Similar Products Used:Nothing with this type of XC tread.
Bike Setup:Haro Mary SS 29er.
Bottom Line:Holy crap is this tire fast! The 29" version will really help you utilize that extra momentum that a 29" wheel offers. You'll really notice it after a decent once the ground levels off. They just hold their momentum so well.

I'm still playing with the tire pressure and obviously haven't gotten it right yet since I'm still getting wheel spin. The minimum recommended inflation is not low enough. They are reversible though and I haven't tried reversing the rear yet. So my wheel spin issues may only be temporary.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $55.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:EXCELLENT cornering - superb handling and generous tyre size for the 2" rating. Fast rolling on all surfaces, and heavy braking on gravel with the front brake doesn't result in a front wheel lockup.
Weaknesses:Price! A$59.99 is quite steep for a tyre, considering the LBS sells Larsen TTs for A$40, cheaper online. Tread doesn't look like it will shed mud easily, although mud is hard to come by in these parts at this time of year.
Similar Products Used:Maxxis Larsen TT, generic knobbies
Bike Setup:1997 Gemini Echo Beach, Deore FD, Deore XT RD, Alivio cranks and shifters, Larsen TT on rear wheel
Bottom Line:Although expensive, I'm very happy with this tyre on the front. Grips well, corners extremely well, and is also reversible to provide added traction if required.

Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $30.00
Strengths:Very solid tire, real declared section, fast rolling and great grip on dry terrain
Weaknesses:Not a product for very muddy trails...
Bike Setup:Bianchi Mutt 7700 - RS Recon 351 Solo Air - XT/LX
Bottom Line:I've used this tyres for 10 months.
I've used the version 2.2 TNT with the tube.

Great on dry terrain, very fast and high-rolling, never loose grip. Not a very good tyre where mud is excessive.

If you like to have a secure driving on descent trails but having a good traction on sloping trails, this is a good tyre!

Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $40.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Excellent cornering tire; medium sized knobs grab every kind of terrain...even light mud! Super, super light (especially the 29er size). Interlocking center tread provides for fast rolling and low resistance. Amazing tires on hard pack, rocks and roots. One TNT version made in white walls...they're sick!
Weaknesses:I wish they had a 2.3. Otherwise, no complaints
Similar Products Used:Bontrager, Kenda, Maxxis, WTB, Hutchinson...pretty much all of them.
Bike Setup:Rigid XC 29er with Saguaros!
4x/pump track bike with Saguaros!
Bottom Line:This is, to date, the best tire I've ever ridden...period. It's amazing how well they grip and even more amazing how well they hold up. I just can't wreck this tire! For a reliable, well rounded review, check the write-up at twentynineinches.com.

Favorite Trail:The ones the FEDS don't know about
Duration Product Used:3 months
Purchased At:40
Strengths:Fast, Light, Smooth Rolling, good grip in corners and in smooth pack
Weaknesses:Not excellent climber, doesn't like loose climbs or limestone (which is a problem in the hill country). Doesn't clear mud worth a damn
Similar Products Used:intense cc2.3's (the best (for the hill country), and unfortunately discontinued)
Bottom Line:It's alright. If you ride dry smoothpack all the time, you'll really like these. However, on loose ascents the rear wheel will just spin around unless you're all the way back in the saddle. Just finished mudding them, and the cornering was unexpectedly poor (considering dry cornering is very good). The 2.23s are very fast for their size; just not nearly as grippy as others in loose packed surfaces. On the bright side, they're better than a lot of tires, and if you like smooth, fast riding, or even some urban assualt, these tires do pretty well.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $45.00
Purchased At:Trails-Edge.com
Strengths:This review is for the Saguaro foldable High Performance model for use with tubes. Smooth rolling and very quiet tread. Very grippy on smooth hard pack turns. Very easy to install on tubeless rims. Directional, for more grip, or turn it around for fast, smooth rolling. Lots of edges for better bite.
Weaknesses:The tire didn't like loose climbs. It could be rider weakness too. New unproven design.
Similar Products Used:Hutchinson Python Air Light UST
Bike Setup:Cannondale Scalpel with 2.20/2.00 (F/R)
Bottom Line:So far I like these tires. They grip better and feel fast, sturdy, and I feel more confident on this tire compared to the Pythons. A solid feeling tire at whats seems to me like a very light weight. They roll fast and are a good choice for most SE Michigan trails.
