I use the bike for trail and technical riding to urban assualt. Frame is very strong and forgiving climbs and descends very nicely. Cheap but rather reliable components. People beg to ride my bike often unmounting bikes costing 5x as much. got it down to 28 lbs which allowing it to climb with the best of them. It is amazing how easy it is to climb, downhills are a little less fun. I recommend this bike to anybody who only rides on the weekend and who probably spends more time riding on-road than off-road, it's great around the city. If your preferred trails are downhills, I would go for shocks. I posted a review of this bike on 11/12/98 and am posting an update. The bike is still fine for a low cost machine, but the Weinmann 519 wheels suck. I have not really been riding hard on rough stuff except once as mentioned in the 1st review. After about 6 weeks the rear rim started going out-I could feel a thumping when the brake was on and heavy brake pad marks at the joint where the rim is joined. R&R Bicycles, Tucson AZ replaced it with a stronger one and better hub at no charge under warranty. Then a month later same thing on the front. They must know that this rim is worthless or R&R would not replace it with a different one.

This is my my first mountain bike after riding road bikes for many years. I'm really impressed with how much fun and how easy it is to ride off the pavement. I wanted to get an entry level bike and looked at and rode Trek, Schwinn, Nishiki, Specialized, Diamondback, GT, Cannondale and problably others in the same price range. I paid $315 for the '99 Wahoo. The GF Wahoo was the most comfortable to ride and just felt and rode better. That may be partly due to the riser bar that is standard. I've had it for 3 weeks and so far it is flawless. I've been on some rough, bone jarring, vision blurring washboard dirt roads to test it out and can see that if one were to do mainly that kind of riding, a front suspension would be better. For now, and for the kind of riding I'll be doing around Tucson, this bike should be OK. | | Overall Rating: |
