Geometry is great for riders with taller upper torsos. The Hayes brakes are awesome on long downhills and wet crossings. | | Weaknesses: | Wore out the seat quick relase after 6 months, since it gets used everytime I transport the bike. The stock seat leaves a lot to be desired. Collapsed the rails after a few hard landings. | | Similar Products Used: | GT Avalanche, Gary Fisher HooKooIKoo,Trek Fuel 80, Klein Palomino. | | Bike Setup: | The bike is stock with the exception of the seat. Now has a Selle Italia Max Flite. A 110% improvement over the stock seat for comfort and durability. The future holds a lighter seat post and stem. Other than than it can't get much better. | | Bottom Line: | If you have a thing for Hardtails this is it, or the Big Sir without disc brakes depending on your personal preference. It's affordable and good quality components. Seems to fit taller torsos well.
The Big Sir definitely stands up to abuse too. If only my body could take the abuse so well.

Frame pump, computer, and I changed the pedals out. I put the 515s from the Big Sur on my road bike and put a combo pedal Shimano PDM324 on the Big Sur. I don't always want to clip in when riding the mtn bike. Like dragging the kids around on a tagalong. Oh yeah i also changed out the fork spring (heavier duty - bike shop did it for free). It was a great idea I got from reading the reviews here (Why am I sucking up?). | | Bottom Line: | Very happy with the bike. I ride 3 - 5 times a week (road and offroad). Off road is everything from big ring speed stuff to twisty up & Down singletrack. I don't do a lot of jumping/downhill but that is mostly because there isn't much around here. I got the discs because I liked the all condition stopping power and am hoping to get out west to do some long downhill rides. I am 6'3" and 220 (clydesdale?). I had trouble getting an FS bike that felt sufficiently stiff (efficient)in my price range (<$1500). I like the hardtail. It has a great ride and the shock seems adequate (with the spring upgrade which I recommend if your are of a certain size). I also ride the shock somewhat preloaded. The frame is great. I may upgrade fork at some time but the frame is well worth putting better components on. My old bike (and I mean old) is a steel frame Specialized Stumpy from 1986. No suspension. It is a great bike and I still love riding it but the suspension is great. I had to relearn to climb hills with the Genesis Geometry. I was used to standing up and horseing the bike up the hills. No more. The best climbing position seems to be to slide forward a little on the seat. Then it climbs like a goat. | | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |
