$850.00 | | Purchased At: | Sun & Skii Sports | | Strengths: | Great bike, great componets, not much that HAS to be upgraded, fits me, and it's i love the paint job! | | Weaknesses: | haven't really found any yet | | Bottom Line: | I bought this bike at a great price, and it is more comfortable for me than any other bike I tested (2002 Big Sur, Trek 6700, others...) and I came away happy. The first time I rode the bike I was pleasantly surprised, and I love this bike. It has pretty good componets for the price, and I am just now starting to upgrade parts on it (the seatpost, handlebar, and stem). Supposedly this bike was designed for women under 5'5", but I am 5'8" and I still love the bike. The fork is tuned for a 140 pound rider, so I've never had a problem with it. I actually found it more responsive than any other fork on a bike that i tested, but if you are over 140 pounds, you will probably need to replace it.
BOTTOM LINE: this is a great bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1000.00 | | Purchased At: | Pasadena Cyclery | | Strengths: | Great frame. One of the best bikes I've ever ridden. I love the GS geometry, and the Big Sur platinum frame is great. I also really love the female-sized riser bars, because most riser bars are too big for me.
This bike is amazing on climbs and technical stuff. The weight on it is nice too (especially after coming off a FS..).
The brakes are great.. it beats killing myself with disc brakes. | | Weaknesses: | The fork I absolutely hate. I may be short, but I don't weight 120lbs. In order to get it where it should, I'd have to bring and new spring ($25) and replace the oil ($?). Not to mention, I hate coil shocks. So, I put on a Mars Super, and now I'm happy :) | | Similar Products Used: | Trek 7000. This bike is much better--hard to believe that they are generated from the same company. | | Bike Setup: | XT, XTR, Race Face Cranks, Mars Super, Small frame :) | | Bottom Line: | If you're female and looking for a good TRAIL mountain bike (not necessarily for street riding), this bike is wonderful. I've never had a bike that handles transitions (quick down then up) as well.
Because of it's geometry, it handles amazingly well. It's nice to not have everything centered in my shoulders. Because the bike is great for its price (despite the fact I hate the shock, but YMMV), I give it 5 chilis. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
