$2100.00 | | Purchased At: | Sykkelsenteret, Bergen Norway | | Strengths: | This bike really rocks. It rides as good as it looks, reliable gear and brake system. Comfortable rider both on-road and off-road. I am using it mostly to and from work, and I`ve always enjoyed this bike no matter what. | | Weaknesses: | The brake-calipers locked the disc when braking, due to lack of maintenance. Got it fixed and now performs well. | | Similar Products Used: | Scott Vantage M16. Good bike, slightly cheaper.. | | Bottom Line: | Great bike. Go for it.. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$4500.00 | | Purchased At: | This is an update to previous post: | | Strengths: | Very nice thank you! | | Weaknesses: | But.. The frame busted after 16 months of 2-5 hour daily abuse. | | Similar Products Used: | Not really, only couried seriously on this one. Been using crap bikes as replacement when this have been waiting for parts after major damage. | | Bike Setup: | Gone thru more in parts than the bike originally costs, about one bike worth of running gear each year. Got new front end(fork, handlebar, handlebar mount, disc, etc) after a stupid cager smashed it while it was parked. The rest of the bike was almost completely replaced as well. Only the rear XT deralieur, rear brake disc, the hayes - still there being in a spongy state which repeated bleeding doesn't fix, seat post and by some strange reason - the seat! Yep, the original crap bontrager seat. Never got damaged enough to warrant replacement and I'm not spending that much time sitting anyway. :) | | Bottom Line: | After about 15000 kilometers of inner city couringering the frame said goodbye and fractured down by the crank. No damage happened, it was a mild fracture and Gary Fisher is replacing the frame for free without question. Problem is it takes at least three weeks to get the replacement.
Well well.. I'm off to do other things for a while, will be very nice to not have to replace every single thing on the bike continously.. :) Gonna keep this until full suspension XC bikes are cheaper.
Most enjoyable bike! From sweaty summer days on perfect tarmac to sloshing around in the snow half a year later on big bully downhill rubber - always fun. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$3000.00 | | Purchased At: | Wall Mart | | Strengths: | When I first got it the back wheel fell off as i went down a very steep hill. After i got that fixed the next day the brakes gave out going down the same hill. Then i broke the bottom bracket after taking it off a fricken huge 2 foot drop. The disk brakes squeak all the time and the fork leaks fluid. Also one time a peadal fell off and i racked myself. It hurt a lot. Really. Other than all that the bike rocks. It's totally worth the 3 grand i spent on it. | | Weaknesses: | I really can't think of any. | | Similar Products Used: | My sisters bike, it was ok. Oh yeah once I rode on a 2003 scooter ZEX 9000 plus... it was ok as far as scooters go. | | Bike Setup: | All stock except i took off the psylo and put on a tottaly sweet RST... the guy at the bike shop seemed confused but I dunno whats to be confused about the shock was only like 43 bucks. I know, that is awesome. | | Bottom Line: | I've ridden a lot of bikes in my day, and scooters as well, and this one isn't too shabby. I mean, I like it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$800.00 | | Purchased At: | Cycle Therapy | | Strengths: | Geometry, good for climbing. Yay for disc brakes. Psylo is fricken awesome. It's cheap. | | Weaknesses: | I also had a few problems with crankset but no biggie u can fix it with a hammer.I think the seat is hot (sarcasm). | | Similar Products Used: | Trek (about as good but more espensive) | | Bike Setup: | Frame and wheels and what not. I will probably upgrade front derailleurs when it brakes (i will brake it) | | Bottom Line: | IT'S AWESOME. There's a lot of bikes out there but.... i dunno where i'm going with this but it's a sweet bike. IT'S FLAMIN'. Good for XC riders like myself. (Doesn't run good under water). Frame is protected for life like all Gary Fischers so HAVE FUN, hit that 30 foot cliff. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1200.00 | | Purchased At: | Harrells Bicycle World | | Strengths: | Good frame material/geometry. Yay for Hayes hydros at this pricepoint. Good componentry mix up. Nice serfas grips. Thanks for shimano spd pedals coming on the bike. Bike looks good with war battles (scratches, etc from busting on rocks) | | Weaknesses: | Boo middle chainring on Bontrager cranks. Folded over on me one day on a short torquey climb. Fixed by LBS on warranty. Boo seatpost clamp. it wouldn't keep the seat up on a rougher trail, but LBS replaced to a better Fisher unit on warranty. Boo Bontrager superstock-disc wheelset, I wore the freehub bearing out in about six months. Boo WTB saddle, too cushy and wide for bike at this level. | | Similar Products Used: | Not so many. | | Bike Setup: | Had oil in shock upgraded to 20 wt oil, more dampening helps the Psylo XC alot. Better Specialized saddle, Bontrager Race Lite flat bars, to fit me. Upgraded seatpost clamp and middle chainring (warranty). Mavic 317 wheels on King ISO-Disc hubs (yay hubs that put up with me, and are super light) and King headset (got a good deal.) XT Cassette. | | Bottom Line: | I'm about 200 pounds, and push pretty hard on a bike. I have no idea if my size had anything to do with the rear hub, middle chainring (the only one I really use) or the seatpost clamp. For a hardtail, this is a great bike. Fits its inteded purpose. Drivetrain is sufficient, without being too pricey with XT/XTR stuff where you don't need it. XT cassette is worthwhile upgrade (from sram 7.0) They hit it right on by using Hayes Hydraulics for the stoppers. An excelent platform for upgrades.
It's a good frame from the Trek conglomerate. Wish they would have supplied better routing solution for the hydralic lines. I'm not so much a fan of their bontrager stuff. Bars, stem, post, cool. Wheels, cranks, skewers, not so much. Cranks will probably go (break) next.
Geometry inspires you to corner and huck off drops. Well behaving bike, as long as the shock is set short. Generally, can't complain. Races well, and with my upgrades (wheelset mainly) gets down to a respectable weight range. Don't put too much air in that back tire, or it get's kinda bouncey. I'm 6'3", and with the flat bars, a large fits me well and goes where I point it.
Five chilis because who else gives you hayes, a good drivetrain, and a top end frame (ZR9000 is trek's highest), and an okay fork for $1200.
Three chilis because of bontrager stuff (wheels, chainring) that were insufficient for the bike. I expect to be able to ride a $1200 bike, not walk it because the chainring bent. That's all. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1600.00 | | Strengths: | A good compromise between cost and components. Light, fast and strong frame. Brakes are superb and pads lasts for quite a while. Although biased towards country riding it's a very good bike on road too. Suspension can be set stiff enough to encourage fast riding and the frame copes very well with high speed. Gives the rider confidence to take it beyond the limits, and back again. | | Weaknesses: | It's all been covered in the other reviews. Suspension can be dodgy and all screws have to checked before use. Some was loose when I bought mine. Paint is prone to wear. | | Similar Products Used: | Mongoose, Kona | | Bike Setup: | Road use. Mudguards, loads of reflective sheeting, lamps - the usuall stuff. No point in changing parts until they break down, as they will at some point no matter what bike, unless you're a rich expert rider. | | Bottom Line: | Fun enough to make me smile 8 hours daily as a courier. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1755.00 | | Purchased At: | The Great Bicycle Shop | | Strengths: | Weighs 27.25lbs, Tracks, corners, and climbs excellent. Hayes brakes and Manitous 80/100 shock is outstanding under pressure. | | Weaknesses: | Faulty brake line. Some components needed to be swapped from stock to upgrades in order to bring out the bikes full potential. | | Similar Products Used: | Cannondale 900. I will not go back to that shop again. | | Bike Setup: | San Marco Era saddle, xt fron/rear, easton monkey lite carbon handle bar, Thompson stem/seatpost, hayes hydraullic, Bontrager Pro crank, Bontrager super stock rims, Speedplay frog peddles, | | Bottom Line: | The bike is awesome! Super light front end, the bike really allows you to clear obsticles with ease while also allowing you to stay in the saddle on the hardest hills. I spend alot of time on this bike and still remain comfortable day after day. This bike will motivate you. The Bottom Line is: it's a GARY FISHER. Can't go wrong. Anyone starting out won't need any up grades, on the other hand some are needed for the more advanced. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1200.00 | | Purchased At: | Cycle World | | Strengths: | Components - for the price, and the frame, you won't find a better stock setup | | Weaknesses: | haven't found one yet, maybe the saddle. | | Similar Products Used: | owned a Mongoose p.o.s. for a few years until I killed it.
| | Bike Setup: | stock - Manitou Black fork, bontrager crank, headset, wheels, hayes hydraulic discs | | Bottom Line: | Loving the Genesis design. Climbs great, light, and Ididn't break the bank for the quality components. Anyone in the "novice but interested in learning" can really learn to fly on this bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
