Date Reviewed: May 26, 2008
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $45.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Simple, very low stack, good strength to weight ratio
Bike Setup:Cannondale Scalpel '07, Reba Race fork, XT gruppo, Avid Seven brakes
Bottom Line:The box did not include any installation instructions.
So, for future frustrated non-pro mechanics, this is the installation order on the fork from bottom: thin rubber ring, crown race, bearing, cup, (top) cup, bearing, compression ring, cover, thin rubber ring, spacers, stem, top cap. Grease everything you mount. Compress the whole assembly correctly, tight the stem, slip the bottom and top rubber rings over the small gaps (I had the gaps filled with grease). Done - enjoy this very nice and sturdy headset.
I rate it a 3 because of the missing instructions and the external sealing rings - Cane uses seals mounted inside...

Favorite Trail:whistler stuff and mt. galbraith
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Purchased At:downhill zone
Strengths:works good, have had it for nearly 2 years and have only had to retighten it once. relatively smooth bearings but nothing special. rains alot here in washington so i guess it's pretty well sealed. keeps dust out well.
Weaknesses:it's not gold.. looks boring.
Similar Products Used:yes, but don't know what they are called, my friend has an OD headset and his is loose and sh##ty all the time.
Bike Setup:versus blitz freeride frame with freeride components.
Bottom Line:it works great there is nothing wrong with it at all! sure there is better but if you don't have the money for a $90+ headset this one will work fine, even if you abuse it it'll keep coming back for more, just be sure to do regular maintainence on it and keep it greased too the max. thats why i think mine has lasted for so long, i expect it too last much longer because the bearings and stuff are still in great shape.

Date Reviewed: October 12, 2005
Duration Product Used:3 months
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:it works; compact low stack height
Weaknesses:none so far
Similar Products Used:Chris King
Bottom Line:I needed a headset to suit a 50mm OD headtube and this is what my LBS offered; works fine, has well-sealed bearings that are smooth, and should last me well; I do XC and weigh 70kg, so don't stress the bike too much, and tend not to venture out if it's too wet!

Submitted by Wesley Fraser a Racer from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
Date Reviewed: April 20, 2002
Favorite Trail:Kelso
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $80.00
Purchased At:Action Bikes
Strengths:Smooth, durable, and doesn't trap a lot of water like some.
Weaknesses:Comes loose very easily. I don't know if it's the top cap, some bearings that justdon't quite sit right, or a whole bunch a things, but everytime I rode, it came loose, so I had to keep it a bit tighter than I would normally like to keep a headset.
Similar Products Used:Joe-Blow OEM stuff
Bike Setup:Oryx Equipe 4000 GOld
Bottom Line:It's not a Chris King ofcourse! But it works
