Strengths:Good high energy sound track, gets you pumped up to bike. Alot of steep loose soil descents. Good video to learn the technique of going down steep slopes. Good helmet and bike frame camera shots at high speeds. High quality production.
Weaknesses:If you want a variety of biking situations, like trials, high speed down hilling over rocks or through woods, jumps, etc this is not the video for you. Wish they had closer camera shots. Many shots are taken from across the valley.

Date Reviewed: December 29, 2000
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $38.00
Purchased At:wooden wheels
Strengths:well, i think i paid like 38 for the boxed set. its a great concept; let's define freeride. they have some asskicken free riders. some sweet descents that i don't have the balls to try. yet. maybe if i keep watching...
Weaknesses:you call that a soundtrack? the only other weakness is that all this stuff is cool once, but after you've seen a guy bomb one descent from a camera a quarter mile away, you've pretty much seen it all. instead they let you have this great perspective a ton of times over, and over, and over.

The riders in this flick are truly heroic and Brian Lopes is the funk soul brotha.

Favorite Trail:
can't say, yuppies might go there
Duration Product Used:
less than 1 month
Strengths:
As we would expect this video rocks.
Weaknesses:
to short for the money $25 plus
Similar Products Used:
the usual
Bike Setup:
Voodoo Canzo esp, xt judy xc
Bottom Line:The bottom line if you edited pass the extra crap, like the first 10 minutes, this video is less then a half hour, what is the deal? It appears they(producer) spent to much money on the graphics. If this was a hour video it would be five hot ones, if it wasn't almost $30 bones on top of that it would be four hot ones, so it is a silly three, $30 bones for a half hour. I should have got a massage after crashing trying to do those stunts-out!

Bottom Line:This video has lots of good footage. Also has lots of big drops, and some street riding. Its not to short, and has lots of good riding in it. Five chilies for all the really good riding footage, and the north shore riding.

Duration Product Used:

Strengths:
By far the best video I have ever seen. This is the only mountain bike video that competes with the extremity of the terra firma and crusty videos. The music rocks.
Weaknesses:
My friends used to think that I was a good rider then I showed them this video, now they think that I suck.
Bottom Line:If you have never seen this video you are missing out. The whole thing gets you pumped to go out and ride yourself.

Submitted by Chinner a weekend warrior from North Van
Date Reviewed: February 3, 1999
Bottom Line:

Now this video has a sweet soundtrack to go with the unreal riding.
The guys are going of on the edge and not falling on every drop like in North shore extreme.
It has a good variance in riding from the the high speed kamloops sand pits to the slow speed north shore.
Cant wait to go and try myself in Kamloops

Bottom Line:

This movie is rad.
Non stop excitment, out of control goodness.
Pure bike handing skills shown at there best.
Not like those cliff jumping monkeys in the north shore jungle.
I feel like hoping on my bike and signing those sandpits, with the ink of my wheel.
Cant wait for Kranked 2

Bottom Line:

At first I thought this video ruled, but as I watched it over and over again it got kinda boring. It's still a good video, but it repeats itself too much. The music is good and has very good quality. Hook your VCR to your stereo, thats what gives it the 4th. star.

Submitted by Mike a downhiller from Canada
Date Reviewed: December 26, 1998
Bottom Line:

Kranked is the best mountain biking video!! It stars a host of pros!
Richie Schley, Brett Tippie, Wade Simmons, Carys Evans all which happen to be rocky mountain fro riders! That's why they all happen to be riding Rocky Mountain Bicycles
The movie includes some wicked drop offs, crazy downhills, killer forest terrain and some all out amzing moves!
On the other hand the movie does have alot of Dune Surfing but if you pay attention and watch what the guys are doing it is killer!
It also has guest apearances by Brian Lopes, John Tomac, Dangerous Dan and Insane Wayne!!
Another Fine point about the movies is the music! Bands like Senser, the offspring, guttermouth and Filerbuster make the movie a hit!!
BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT!!!

Submitted by Duggy T a weekend warrior from Edinburgh, Scotland
Date Reviewed: November 26, 1998
Bottom Line:

Too repetitive!!! Far to much dune surfing (about 90% of vid) not enough bombing along single track and getting nice air, mental street riding give us more, trials welcome because it breaks up the dune surfing, less blatant advertising (ALL the riders on Rocky Mountains), get the pros to show off their skills on something bigger than a beginners BMX track (i.e Brian Lopes), camera work is very good so maybe it's only saving grace - giving it a nice low score of II

Submitted by dc a weekend warrior from Victoria B.C
Date Reviewed: November 17, 1998
Bottom Line:

Kranked is the turning point in mtb history. Not because it features great riding that is bound to freak out a load of folk but because it features the grizeled mug of Rosslands finest - the lunchbox himself. Christian is the man when it comes to cinematography that has never been applied to cycling before. We live in a province where vertical often exceeds horizontal and Christian shows the landscape as it deserves to be seen. Wait for the sequel, keep the stinky side up and remeber that 150 stems on AMP dualies are the keys to rippin the canadian knarl.
p.s the worst part of the movie is the durango lameness on test-track and the tomac section - unleash the dirtbags!!! kneel before the prince of the loops - the king is dead.

Bottom Line:

Kranked is clearly one of my favorite flick's. The riding is awesome, and the music is cool. Loads of sick riding, with some of the hottest singletrails in between. The jump sections is really great, especially the one with Brian Lopes! And then the crashes -Ouch!! This is just steep! And what more do we want?

Bottom Line:

Just got Kranked, and while I was relieved to be spared suffering the mental lock-out of repetitive BMX jump-a-thons, I must admit I was a little disappointed. It's a good flick - no worries, but it could have been so much more if only they had blended in a bit more variety of singletrack action, trials, free ride, and general fun. What action there is, is great stuff - but I think most will agree this vid' is predominately a salute to the (near) verticle descent. Lock up your rear wheel (and your daughters), tip the front wheel over the edge and slide down the cliff/canyon. Good camera work, good (but familiar) music, and otherwise well edited. If you are a vertical descent addict, this one's a strong four; if you (like me) are looking for a wide variety of footage that you can watch a hundred times over and will inspire you to run out the door to grab your trusty mount no matter what the weather, then I would rate it a three. My search for a five continues.......

Kranked is one of the best videos I own. The riding is sick !!! I mean it's no North shore Extreme, but the music is way better. I wish there was more about the Zokes girls but what can you do. Oh yeah, and I just heard about Fro rider Brett Tippie's marijuana possesion charge, tough break man.

Had high hopes, but found it to be pretty repetitive. A lot of nice action, just the same; agree with other critics that it could use some singletrack, trials, craching. Maybe the filmamaker can come up with a Double Kranked Hope to check out CHAINSMOKE next- - - Miles of dirt and a world of hurt. . .

Bottom Line:

Despite having to wait 5 weeks for the vid to come after I ordered it, the wait was well worth it. I watched it this afternoon and as soon as it was over, I went for a ride. Any video that can motivate me to go riding on nightfall dark, down rocky singletrack has my approval.Sure the riding is a little one sided with a bit too long on the lock-the-back-wheel-and-floss-your-butt-crack-with-the-rear-tire steep gravel pit shit but that doesn't take away from how scary the steep stuff is.Some of the crashes actually made me wince with pain and the music, while not as heavy and pounding as Chainsmoke, suits the riding very well. All in all a damn fine effort from the canadian guys (and gals). This armchair reviewer gives it 5 flaming horse carcasses.

Bottom Line:

After watching this video a couple of times I find myself fast forwarding or rewinding over the Kamloops stuff(boring). Hey guys go snowboarding or something, eh. Show me the single track action. The music is good. The camera work is excellent. The single track footage that is there is inspiring. I Just got a little tired of guys in hockey jerseys bombing down a gravel faced cliff.
I give it two chilis for wasting precious time and prodution footage on abunch of lunatics. This could have been the best mountain biking movie of all time, but instead it is just another level to be outdone and outdated.

Kranked kicks BUTTTTTTTT!!!!!! The tunes are killer... The riding is SICK! I hope these guys (and gal) have good medical coverage. No stupid stuff, but could use alot more North Shore action and a bit less gavelly downhill stuff. Some of the bails looked BAAADDD. Makes me think I could jump off the roof of the house! Best video I've got. Buy it!

Bottom Line:

If you haven't bought this movie yet you don't know what you are missing. It has the best mountain bike footage since chainsmoke, even the Marzocchi Girls are on it(briefly). Though it did cost me $40 it is well worth it. The best is the footage of those trails in Kamloops. You won't be a real mountain biker until you have this movie.

Date Reviewed: July 4, 1998
Bottom Line:

Kranked's soundtrack does seriousely kick ass and I like the way that they've got all the pro's (freeriding pros that is, I don't much care for insane wayne or anything...) The camera work kicks NSX's ass but I guess it's alot harder to film in a forest where it's constantly raining... although kranked lacks the amount of bails that nsx has, the short bails section in kranked has bails that are alot scarier than most of nsx's the only bad part about this film is the short North Shore section is WAY too short and the slow gravel descents get alittle boring. I give this one 4 chilies...

Bottom Line:

Kranked has a wicked Soundtrack, and some amazing descnt scenes. It lacks in the wipeout department, although it does have a few doozies, and like the other guys have been saying, the steep rear wheel sliding scenes tend to drag on a wee bit. BUT HEY, all in all, this movie Rocks the Mike Man!!!!!!!!!!! 4 1nd 1/2 chillies.

Date Reviewed: June 4, 1998
Bottom Line:

Just watched this video. Hmmmmmm, Christian needs to slack off a bit on the downhill, rear wheel, rock slides. While this was entertaining, for a few shots, the last half of the film seemed stuffed full of descents. This gets as boring as some of the snowboard flicks with people film hit after hit after hit of some butt checking kid trying to do a backside, mctwisty indy grab. This video would have been much better if Christian blended his footage better. More Northshore, single track and Kamloops gravel riding. I thought the footage was strong, just one sided.

This is awesome video. These guys are completely nuts!!! They air of cliffs and then descending a section that is super steep and loose dirt. But these guys don't care, they bomb down these hills with their back wheels sliding all over the place. DDAVE said it best, don't watch this film before you go riding or it'll make you do some crazy stuff.
5 chilis isn't enough for this film.

These guys are nuts!!!!, This is the most radical riding I've seen on film. The soundtrack is thumping too! Don't watch this film before riding, it will make you want to try crazy things. This is the Freeride version of Chainsmoke!
Great film!! :-) This gets five hot chili candies.

This film kicks ass! It is filmed mostly in my hometown of Kamloops. Those sick dropoffs in the gravel pit are only 10 minutes from my house. My friends and I ride it all the time. The long XC downhills are also Kamloops. This is the best video I have seen in a long time and it includes hometown boys Brett Tippie and Ritchie Sley. We watch the video everytime we go to that gravel pit just to find different lines. If you want intense riding and extreme vertical by this video now before its to late!

There has been a wave of raw on the edge style Mtb videos since CHAINSMOKE,but none like this. It combines edge of your seat energy with humor, scenery, some
bltchin riding-including somesick technical decents on near vertical canyon walls. With the exception of Chainsmoke most videos have kinda lame soundtracks. This one is pretty good, with cuts from bands such as offspring and senser. The filming is very good too. There is even an appearance by the
Marzochi Girls. This video kicks @$$!......well worth the $24.95
