Strengths:
Brake modulation, brake power to weight
Weaknesses:
Like any high end race machine requires a bit of setup skill
Similar Products Used:
Avid- 7's 9's ultimates, Hayes, Hope
Bike Setup:
Stumpy at 24lbs with 5.5" travel // S-works Carbon Epic
Bottom Line:
For people willing to invest their time in proper setup and maintenance. The reward is one of the best single finger stoppers with amazing modulation. Even after 15k in climbing descending in a single 120m ride one finger will easily slow you.. BUT ... the clearance are small so knowing how to adjust your brakes is critical.. oh.. they are crazy light too!

Bike Setup:
Fuji Carbón SL C7, Grupo Shimano XTR con Shadow RD Carbón, Ruedas XT, Suspensión Fox RL Remote Lock, Race Face Carbon Next SL, Y los super frenos Formula R1.
Bottom Line:
100% Recomendados.

Strengths:
Stopping power, lightest disc brake on the market, reliabel so far, nice feel. Nice design too.
Weaknesses:
None so far
Similar Products Used:
For years: Magura Marta SL, and Avid Juicy on a test bike.
Bike Setup:
Tomac SL: Fox forck, DT carbon XR shock, Thomson, DT 1450, XTR, Tune, R1's, Rocket Rons (10,2 kg)
Bottom Line:
Hamid Nurani from The Bikecustomiser suggested advised to try Formula R1's, when I asked for Magura Martha's, when I spec'd my new Tomac SL (very light and stiff carbon frame, 2 kg only, shock included!), instead of my beloved Magura Martha's. I'm very pleased with these brakes! I'm 70 kg's, I'm using 180 mm Alligator rotors at the front and 16o mm rotors at the rear: no problems whatsoever on rough downhills. Even descending in the Austrian Alps (from 2000 to 1200 meter): no fading, very nice feel, good modulation, power. The Magura Martha maybe had a 'softer' modulation, I think the R1's do the job as wel. But they weight >100 grams less than the Magura's. Both are excellent brakes.

Strengths:
Lightweight, stopping power, clean looks, excellent durability and reliability, great customer service from Formula.
Weaknesses:
Some initial issues with the brakes when I first installed them, but now they are running smoothly.
Similar Products Used:
Avid Juicy 3s, Avid Juicy 7s
Bottom Line:
This is a follow-up to my earlier review (posted as "Linneke"). I'd had issues with both the front a rear brakes, but after working with Formula, I've now had my brakes running smoothly for several months. The guys at Formula were responsive and helpful, and evidently the issues I had were not ones they'd experienced from any other users. They got both of my brakes back to me in a timely manner, and I have not had any subsequent problems.

Strengths:
Light, easy to bleed, looks good with less clutter on the handle bar.
Weaknesses:
So far not much, the organic pads are, well, organic pads. We all know how poor organic's can be, but these are better than others I have tried. I don't like organic pads but I will use them until they need replacing.
Similar Products Used:
Avid Juicy Ultimate's, Formula K18, Shimano XTR(965).
Bike Setup:
C-dale Taurine,Carbon Lefty,Hollowgram SI 2x9 cranks,XTR derailleurs, cassette, chain and shifters,DT 240 rear hub and Lefty front hub with Mavic 717 rims, and of course the Formula R1's.
Bottom Line:
I think Formula makes some really good stuff, I was really impressed with some K18's I had a few years ago on another bike. The stopping power of these compared to my Avid Ultimate's are much better, even with the organic pads, so I can't wait to see how well they perform with some sintered pads! You must realize that I ride only fast XC, and these brakes are not made for Freeride or heavy All- Mountain riding. A slight drawback for me is the shape of the lever, it has that "hook" on the end and when I squeeze hard it pushes in on my fingers, I liked the feel of the big levers on the Ultimate's. If you ride fast fun XC I think you should be quite pleased with these brakes! Overall I am very impressed with these brakes, I have not had to deal with Formula USA or their customer service, the service I receive here is great, and besides the great price, I got a free upgrade to the alloy rotors just by asking!! Some of the perks of living in Europe is you get great deals on stuff made here. I gave 4 chili's for value only because I got such a good price on the set.
