Before your first application, degrease your chain to get rid of oil, otherwise this lube will not adhere to the chain so well. This is the hardest part for lazy people, but once done the rest gets much easier. You no longer have to clean your chain when you relube it.
But, this lube needs to be applied quite frequently and it's not cheap, so a price is paid for its convenience. Also, rain will wash it off your chain quickly. The chain is quite noisy with this lube, so I don't think this is the best lube around.
Consequently, I've decided to be less lazy and care for my drivetrain better. Based on overwhelming reviews here on the Rock and Roll Extreme lube I've purchased Rock and Roll's equivalent product to the Finish Line Krytech, the Absolute Dry. I've yet to try it out, but my expectations are high on a smoother, longer lasting drivetrain. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Also, this product is designed for dry conditions. Don't expect it to hold up in wet conditions. Finishline makes another product for that.
Well, i needed to make the hole in the bottle larger so that it did not always clog up on me. After that it was easier to apply without making a mess.
This product does not last very long. I don't find much of it left after about 40km. (this is a rough estimate) But, that is good enough for most XC rides i do. I wanted a lube that worked in dry conditions without creating a black grime all over my drivetrain. There are tradeoffs involved. This lube does not attract grime, and is very clean to use, but does not last nearly as long as finishline wet, or several other lubes. Since it does need to be reapplied almost every ride, it gets expensive.

| | Weaknesses: | I didn't like the Krytec Wax Lube at all. It does not last on a long ride. Its good for about 10 miles if your lucky, your chain will sound like its never been lubed at all. Unlike other wax lube products it does not seem to build up enough over time to lube the chain.
Also it runs out of the bottle all too fast making it hard to apply without wasting way too much product.

You have to follow the procedure though: Thourougly clean your chain te first time, lube generously, let dry for at least twelve hours before you go out and ride. Make shure that the KryTech is not stone cold, it will clogg the squirthole if cold. I wipe the chain with a cloth before I go out to ride to remove any exess. Their representative explained that this kind of wax is only meant for short and dry conditions. By short he explicitly meant one hour. So that's what they say about this product basically : perfect for very short and dirty but dry outs, not good for anything else, especially not long rides.

I applied it on a freshly cleaned chain, one or several layers, letting it dry for one hour or one night -- I tried everything. Everytime it would work OK as far as I can tell, but only for a couple hour at best. Totally incredible. The roadside bikeshop where I had to buy some replacement oil told me that it indeed doesn't work (they still stock it, though !).

Works well for this application; clean the pivot well with a cloth before applying, apply a little time before you go out riding to allow the Krytech to dry up. It keeps out the dirt, despite our mostly muddy conditions, I only have to disassemble the linkages for cleaning and thourough relubing twice a year. The delrin rings last about a year, the metal parts last much longer, the metal-only damper pivots are more prone to wear than the other pivots. Thickens very fast when "cold" (< 20 degrees Celsius), sometimes clogging up the bottle`s gap. I usually heat it up a bit on my central heating`s radiator in winter, to assure maximum fluidity.
I also tried it on my forklegs and chain. Both started to squeek pretty quickly, I rather use Finish Line Teflon Dry Style or Motorex Dry Weather lubricant for that.

It dries so quickly that it clots up the end of the bottle, by the time 1 maybe 2 links were "lubricated". At this point bottle must be pointed in a safe direction and forcefully squeezed to blow the clot out of the way; shaking the bottle will not prevent the rapid drying and clotting. It took 1/3 of the bottle to finally coat the chain. When I say coat, I mean leave large dirt collecting deposits, because that is what happened. When using light wiscosity sprays, you have to apply it after each ride. You also have to do this with this wax. The difference between teflon spray and the Krytech wax is that teflon spray is a lot cheaper to use and most of it actually ends on the chain instead of the rug I keep under the chain when lubing it. Telfon spray doesn't attract too much dirt either and at least it keeps your chain lubricated for the duration of a dry ride! No wonder. Just think about it, IT IS DRY! As soon as the wax wares out at contact points, what is to flow in to fill the dry spots?

The Krytech appears to bond with the metal of the chain; after a few initial applications, you need less to get a smooth flex between links. I rode 6500k last year - 4000 road, 2500 dirt. Neither of my chains stretched more than 1/32" over a 12-link/12-inch span. Once or twice I washed everything, dried it and did not re-lube the chain to see if I could do a ride with a spanking drivetrain; no problems but probably not something you should do too often. Krytech does not gob up like Ice Wax, nor does it attract contamination like oils which become ground into black paste. Once on a trail with any moisture or mud, the lube disappears - literally. A few weeks ago I rode a rather wet trail. Started with a fully lubed chain. After 4 or so miles my chain was bone dry and clean. I had to cut my ride short because I was freaking out at the sounds my drivetrain was making, and I could see hours of future drivetrain use disappearing before my eyes. After that ride, I debated carrying the bottle of Krytech with me in the Blackburn Hydrapack to re-apply throughout a long wet ride, but decided to go back to Pedro's Synlube - apply it once every 3-5 rides and forget about it. Must lube after every ride or you get to hear it from your ride. Tried triflow and it was too messy. Prolink is the bomb. Best compromise between durability and cleanliness. Specialized Rockhopper | | Bottom Line: | I have put a few thousand miles on my bike on a rails-to-trail in Missouri. In the summer the 'chat' surface leaves a coating of lime dust on my bike and all the parts (shoes, socks, legs too). A very abrasive dust I might add. The KryTech keeps my chain and other parts well lubed; I never have any noise from the drive train and I do lube about every other time out. My standard ride is a 21.4 mile ride usually in dry conditions. I have been caught in showers and heavy downpour, never had any problem with drive train squeels or other noises. A very good product. But! The new bottle design is not good. 97 Hardtail, Easton Elite with Full 8 speed XT | | Bottom Line: | You must start with a very clean chain. Put heaps of the stuff on and shake the bottle well. The stuff separates out in the bottle. In dry conditions it improved the shifting on my bike and keeps stuff clean. You have to re apply every few days if you ride a lot. I don't think this lube really works off road. Even in a short on road wet commute it washed off. Considering the cost I'm not going to rate it well. And as you have to use 5 times as much as a normal lube that really puts it out of contention. My friend put on Pedro's ice wax minutes before we took off. Half way through the ride his chain started making that I-need-more-lube sound. i work at a shop, and one day while crusing through the new QBP catalog, i saw that finish line made a new high Tech lubricant that would blow all the others away. it sounded interesting, and because i can get almost anything for wholesale, i thought i might as well test some out so as to possibly promote it at my shop. once i got my 2 oz sample bottle, and tried it a few times, it was 2 oz too much. this stuff is crap. it looks like man goo and i always got a little sickening feeling when it would drip off the chain. (if i had spooed on the chain it might have done a whole lot more good) anyways, i applied it to a CLEAN chain and i let it dry overnight like a good little boy. but, the next day on a short two hour ride, i was really upset after half an hour because my chain was really quite noisy while climbing hills. i was flipping angry when near the end of the ride, i could hear every movement of the chain, amplified because THERE WAS NO LUBRICATION ON MY CHAIN. wax lubricants are not made for moving parts. no matter what wax lubricant you use, pedros, white lightning (uncontrollable shudder), coda , or Cry-tech, by the action of the chain shifting gears, and experiencing friction from c-rings, the wax is designed to flake off. yes, it gives you a clean chain. BUT ITS A COMPLETELY DRY CHAIN. no lubrication on a dry chain. that means decreased lifetime of the whole drive train. so unless youre running shimano tourney component groups and can afford a new drive train every year, dont try this stuff. its over priced, looks like cumofsomeyoungguy, does not work forshit, and destroys your drivetrain.
buy other finish line products. use wet lube in the winter, and dry in the summer, use their citrus degreaser because its stronger than your momma on those skidmarks you left in your chonies.
and if i catch you on the trail and you check out my bike before saying hi, im gonna knock your ass out. its not the bike, its the rider.

Last summer I thought this product sucked! Last month, I ran out of lube and borrowed a bottle of my buddy's KryTec. The color of this stuff was green when it used to be white. And a sticker on the bottle said it was a new formula. I guess Finish Line realized it sucked and they changed it. The new Krytec lasted much longer and stayed real clean on my chain. This product sucks. Unless you are as decadent as to change your chain after every ride, don't buy it. After a mere 5 km of riding, the wax is completely gone. The best way to lube your chain is using fine all-purpose oil (not MTB-specific ones 'cause they are way too costly for what they're worth) like CASTROL or stuff like that. By the way, for optimum performance of your bike, you have to clean it thoroughly after very ride anyway, so using sticky lubes doesn't matter a thing. You must start with a clean chain. I like Amway's Industroclean with Finish Line clip-on chain cleaner. Follow degreasing instructions then apply a (ONE) drop of KryTech to each roller, wipe off excess and let it dry. After 2 hours of riding in wet sandy conditions, I could still shift while my companions who used other lubes could not, due to sand in their chains. Intensive application doesn't help.
I used it on the street only. Finish Line Cross Country makes a much better compromise between tidiness and lube ability.

One of my more interesting experiments in biking. Was kind of sick of constantly cleaning the drive train after using wet/oil lubes, since after a few rides the lube turns black and gritty, causing increased drivetrain wear. So I decided to try out some dry lube, I guess the main competitor for this product is White Lightning, Boeshield, and some others. Haven't tried those out, but I have used Krytox for a few weeks now. Followed the hints about warming it up first before applying and letting a thorough drying period to let the lube set on the chain/drivetrain. After this, I noticed silky smooth shifting, there was a little squeeking in the chain during the first 10 minutes of my first ride using this stuff, but that is long gone now. Chain after a few dirty single-track rides now is extremely clean, nothing stuck to it at all. Still shifts smoothly. Not sure if it lubricates as well as wet lubes, but for those of us who are too lazy to clean our chains every other day, this is a great product. I like to see my friends' and their oily, dirty, grimy, gritty chains/drivetrain and I'm trying to convert them now!One important thing to do before applying it for the first time is to thoroughly degrease and clean your drivetrain, use a toothbrush. Then apply it and you'll have smooth silky shifting and a really clean chain! I'm planning to try out the other similar products after I finish up my Krytox. The good thing on the product is the clean chain. I drive 20 km every evening and bigger rides at the weekend. Conditions here are mostly dry but sometimes wet and muddy - middle-european climate. If you lube your chain frequently (every 100 km) it works good. But you should do it instantly after a rainy tour, if you don't - people on the road will not look on your bike, the just hear your squeaking chain. I will try the trick with warming it up before using, maybe it stays a little bit longer on the chain. Because it's such a clean thing to use it, there is really no problem to put some wax on a couple of minutes before starting the ride.
so 2 chillis for the clean chain, 2 chillis for good work on normal wether conditions, -1 chilli for the reduced use on wet conditions and the shifting noise compared with oil.

We found out the trick to this stuff; it needs to be warmed up prior to application. Warming seems to improve the coating properties and penetration. I've been heating a bowl of water in the microwave and then letting the Krytech sit in the hot water for 10 min. or so, then shaking it up.
It worked like KY on sqeaky suspension pivots. I like it best for my chain too. I figure so what if water does wash it off a bit, I still don't have to clean and relube after every ride like I would if I still used any of the stickyassed lubes that turn my chain into a sand-coated self milling machine. I bought a bottle just for sake of curiosity . This sucks donky d... .
It prodruces a messy waxy film over my components and really needs the 3 h
dry period . You can hear and feel the chain scratching and scraping the chain rings and rear cluster - shifting is loud and notchy .
Dust buildup is vertially non-existent ,but only when dried out.
I switched back to smoothe ,silky ,all-weather shifting with Rohloff oil.
It's bio-degradable , it does gunk up a bit - but shifting is unaffected.
I give Krytox 2 chilies ,
nice try for dusty days but if it just would shift silently .
Try Rohloff oil - been useing it for three years now and just

My bike shop told me that this Krytech was good stuff. I'm not so convinced of that. I applied it to my new MTB chain (After I had degreased the packing lube & installed on the bike) twice before riding. I waited overnight and then went for a 35 mile road ride. By the time I got back home, the chain was squeaking like crazy! I then re-applied the Krytech. A couple weeks later I went for my first trail ride of the season. After one shallow creek crossing the chaine was squeaking again! This lube might be nice for some people who don't mind lubing the chain before every ride, but that's not for me. This is without doubt a very clean way to lube your chain. No mess or gunk. It doesn't attract dirt or dust. It is not for wet weather riding though. As soon as you hit some water it comes straight off. It is also not as quiet as oil based lubes, although it doesn't suck as much power either. Product was initially applied to a chain that had been removed, immersion cleaned in solvent, and allowed ample time to dry. Subsequent applications were made while the chain was installed and hosed clean. In all cases the application was allowed to dry overnight. Lubricating properties significantly dimished after less than 50 miles of Northeastern winter road training (usually sandy, salty, and a little wet), as evidenced by loudly squeeking chain links. Found Finish Line's other wax chain lube to be greatly superior in this respect. I recieved a trial size 2 oz. bottle with a new chain I ordered, so I figured I'd give it a shot. The problem appears to be a lack of adhesion. It takes the white lightening effect to the next level! About half way through a short, dusty ride, the stuff is all gone, and my chain is sawing away. I went through that whole bottle, and a half of another larger one I inherited from a friend in three weeks! The stuff is way too expensive to require so many applications. Another wanna be dry wax lube with a fancy name. In general this lube is shitty. Let's think about it, do you know of a single mechanical device in which you use a wax as a lubricant ..... NO. Maybe because there aren't any, granted a few may exisist. Wax is for dental floss, candles, car polishing and perhaps sealing really nice envelopes. But it is NOT FOR BIKES. If you tried using a wax on a motorcycle drive train or a car people would laugh. My experinces with Kry(shit) have been mediocre at best. The lube lasts a very short time maybe a ride. A build up will do some good, but kiss it good bye as soon as you clean the chain. Never ride with this lube in the wet and that goes for White Lightning too (another on my most hated list), it will last about ohh 30 minutes. Be wise ride wet, that goes for your ass too, lube it up and stay soft, no saddle sores. I found that wax lubes are better than oil lubes in dry weather because they don't pick up as much dirt. But if you clean your chain after every ride anyway, I think the wet lubes are the way to go. That said, who cleans their chain after every ride? It's easier to just put on 116 drops of some wax lube. And Krytech lasts longer than WL and leaves less of a waxy build-up. Just lube your chain a couple hours before the ride.
I have to ask: is it a good thing to have a chain lube flake off during use when the chain is so close to one side of the rear rim? Offhand, I would say it is NOT a good thing to have 25% of your bike's braking surfaces lubricated. Just a thought.

In the dry dusty conditions it was much cleaner than the wet lubes but after a few K's it squeaks and squeaks, which drove me crazy. Stick with the wet style lubes for chains in wet or dry. Squeaky on decent rides, but clean keep it for cabless, not chains. | | Overall Rating: |

hmmm....for me it work well...it lubricate n stop all the noices..
but u have to put extra oil on the chain, plus do it regularly like in 3 days times..i done some riding in during the winter n it work..but u still have to clean ur chain every week if u want great perfomance....
i dont know about the others...these thing work well for me...

Followed the application directions to the letter... new, degreased chain... application night before riding so lube can dry... lotsa shaking of da bottle.. etc.. Tried it for about 3 months, and the verdict is:No thank you m'am. Longevity is poor. Krytech doesn't even last through my commute if there is even a bit of water (and I live in dry SoCal), let alone a long muddy offroad ride. Lubrication properties are decent for the first few miles, but decrease rapidly. The only positive comment I can make, that Krytech does keep the chain clean, is negated by the observation that a totally unlubed chain doesn't attract much dirt either... If you do short rides in dry conditions Krytech and other wax lubes may work for you, but personally I'm back to wet lubes. Oh, and maybe I'll try Boeshield. This stuff lasts 60 minutes.
After that, you drivetrain is screaming for a re-lube.
Not very enjoyable when you are racing.
Its probable OK for a recreational riding, but it just isn't strong enough for
full-on riding.
Much hype and not enough substance.

I got my krytech from a special offer in dupont magazine.
It works way better than the WL i was using.
I ride in all conditions and I had already wasted a chain on a 50mile ride where my WL washed off, so I was readay to try something new.
The Krytech was just the ticket,

Minus 3 chillis for failing to lube my chain for more than 60 minutes at a time. This stuff dries up fast in sunny Singapore.

I worked in a bike shop this past summer, and we used this on most of our bikes. I also used it on my bike because it was free. Now that I am working elsewhere, I realize that it has to be applied more frequently than White LIghtning, and doesn't work as well. It just isn't as smooth. I've really given this my best shot for the past six months - encouraged, I think, by the blurb which says the more you use it, the less often you need to apply it. But my chain still sounds like fingernails across a blackboard after 20 miles, and I'm tired of having to re-lube after every ride. I didn't even find it all that clean. Compared to Tri-Flow, Krytech is definitely much better in the muddy country that I ride in. It keeps my chain clean which to me translates to longer drivetrain life, reduced chain suck. I also get flats often enough that I really appreciate not having to deal with the black slimy chain that I had with Tri-Flow.Krytech is also great my SPD clipless pedals.Drawbacks: Needs to be reapplied after every ride and on long rides I noticed some chain noise (squeak) which I didn't get with the Tri-Flow. | | Overall Rating: |

Have to admit it definitely kept the chain clean enough to eat off of although
I had problems with it shedding to the point I got a squeeky link after only
10 miles of riding. I noticed the sqeeky link every time I rode with this
lube. I am now using DuPont Teflon. Chain gets a little dirty but the squeek
is gone and I haven't had to lube the chain in over 5 rides (approx. 25 miles
ea. ride). I've been told Pedros super dry is an excellent lube. That's my
next test product.

krytech realy did the trick. no more greasy gritty chain. after two application s my chian has a nice coat of their waxy coating. shifting is smooth and my chain is almost clean enough to eat off of. ATTENTION: All White Lightning users, this is the product that you've been waiting for! This lube is awesome. I've used White Lightning, Rock 'N Roll, A.T.B., Boeshield T-9 and just about every other dry lube on the market and they all fell short of my expectations. This finish line lube is amazing because 1) it lubes very well for a very long time without reapplication and 2) it really does keep your chain clean. This lube uses a lubricant made by dupont called KryTox and it is supposed to be the best lubricant out there. Finish line took this lubricant and applied it to a parrafin based lube that dries on your chain but retains the lubricating properties of Krytox... but don't listen to me, you've gotta try this stuff. | | Overall Rating: |
