Date Reviewed: April 20, 2008
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:Been riding the same wheel on my allmountain/lite freeride bike for over 7 years without a problem. Haven't gotten any cracks and it still runs smooth. Ya, I'm not a big time hucker or a hard core D.H.er but I can be a pretty agressive rider.
Weaknesses:None that I've encounterd
Bike Setup:2001 Foes Weasle dual sport, Marzocchi 66, RaceFace Atlas cranks, Hugi Onyx hubs on Mavic 517 rims.
Bottom Line:I know other people have had problems with this hub but for me it's been over seven years with out a problem. They just may be more abusive on there parts than I am. The rear hub on the other hand is a differant story.

Date Reviewed: December 1, 2003
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:Looks ok, fits my thru axle.
Weaknesses:The flanges on my hub completely cracked and fell apart at the spoke holes.
Similar Products Used:Many shimano XC Crap, Sun/Ringle (crap), King (the bomb!), Hope(not as good as King)
Bike Setup:01 Super 8, 02 Shivers, full xtr, Hayes 8 inch, avalanche dhs rear shock, profile cranks, Azonic stem, bar, saddle, thompson post, Intense Rubber.
Bottom Line:This was strange, I had been riding this hub with no problems for a year. Then all of the sudden I am standing in the lift line and I hear a pop followed by the sound of metal and spokes popping loose. The non-disc side hub flange started to disintegrate at the spoke holes. It appeared that the metal had fatigued and started to crack and oxidize at the spoke holes on the flange. I can now crack off parts of the flange with my fingers. It looks like silver sand. Not good. It lasted through a year of serious abuse before this so I can't totally crap on it. But I will spend the extra $$ on a king now. It is money well spent.

Purchased At:came with bike
Strengths:eer its big

Similar Products Used:some kinda ringle hub
Bike Setup:old super8 with hays and made out of a bunch of diff parts i got including a old specialized hub that has had a few near death experiences.
Bottom Line:well its rather large and tough and its one of those components you dont bother worrying about cuzz u know it will survive the dumbest sh*t you can throw at it....including having a car roll on it...which iv done
also intense tires tougher than my mamoth which got squished but the tire still didnt explode

Favorite Trail:Mt Snow
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $110.00
Purchased At:On-line
Strengths:Price? Name?
Weaknesses:One run......
One full day at Mt Snow and it is now squeaking and crunching. And this is with a set a BOXXER forks which you can clamp the hunb VERY tightly with. Internal design is crap.
Similar Products Used:Many.
Bike Setup:Intense M1.
Bottom Line:Floating bearing setup is pure crap....takes patience and a scewdriver to get all the internal spacers lined up JUST SO you can slip the 20mm axle through. You need to smear grease in there to keep them from floating (falling) all around. In any case, you will fight with it as you try to get the 20mm axle to go through.

Seemed like a good hub for the money (Trusted the name). It isn't, you can do better.

I must say that even WITH the squeaking and intermittent "crunch" noise while rotating, they spin very very well. I just wished they didn't nuke themselves so quickly.

Are you an aggresive rider? Buy a HOPE and be done with it. ~~~~~~~~ You buy cheap, you buy twice.....always.

Favorite Trail:State Course
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $250.00
Purchased At:N/A
Strengths:Everything. These little guys are truely a work of art. They roll smooth, are strong as hell and take a major beating.
Weaknesses:Seriously?
Similar Products Used:DT 240, Phil Wood, Kings and many other generics
Bike Setup:Sun RhinoLites XL, DT brass nips, DT 2 butted spokes w/ a 3x pattern
Bottom Line:These are sweet little hubs. I got the Hayes/Hugi versions just because they look cool with the Hayes logo on them. I've never had one day of trouble with them. They roll smooth, there stiff, they look simple yet elegant. Man I love these things. Buy them... buy them now!

Favorite Trail:good ones
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Strengths:Looks solid
Spins freely
Weaknesses:Floating bearing system
Similar Products Used:Several
Bike Setup:Custom built craftworks
Bottom Line:The hubs looks tough and spins freely. However the shaft floats and it requires an extremely tight fitting fork, my forks werent and hence the play with the bearings destroyed the hub quickly. This is a excellent hub if your forks can very tightly clamp the hub, otherwise youll destroy the hub. Im getting mine replaced free of charge. Excellent value for the correct fork

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $113.00
Purchased At:Bingham's Cyclery
Strengths:run super smooth, strong, the bearings in them are awesome
Weaknesses:none at all
Similar Products Used:specialized stout hub, truvativ hub, some others
Bike Setup:s-works DH,WB DH-2 w/7 in. kit,hayes brakes, Easton bars,stem, and pedals
Bottom Line:It's definately not the best hub out there, but it can compete against some good hubs. Its cool that it doesn't cost very much. Low cost, high quality!
