Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Strengths:Bike pedals strong and rides smooth. Good travel on both ends, and takes sizeable drops for my 220lbs. This is my initial review, but i'll put up a 3 month one soon.
Weaknesses:Air shock is great, but without a shock pump i was having a hard time getting it set like i wanted. But with the pump, everything is great!
Similar Products Used:Demo'ed and borrowed kona stinky and giant warp.
Bike Setup:changed to shimano deore discs, formula hubs and alex rims. Put on my answer riser bar and replace the original tires with moto raptor, soon to be tioga dh factory.
Bottom Line:Great bike. somehow it seems to stay firm when pedaling but soak up the big hits when headed downhill or off dropoffs. Lightweight and strong.

Date Reviewed: September 23, 2002
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $1250.00
Purchased At:2 for the road bikes, georgetown
Strengths:Great price, good components. Very beefy construction esp on rear suspension. Easily handles 240lb rider with shocks set up right. With suspension in the 4 inch mode it is very sweet. The rear brakes are very powerful, on the downside they are a little too "grabby" for my taste. This bike was head and shoulders above the other bikes I tested (Fuel, Sugar, Specialized)
Weaknesses:Stock grips suck. No quick release seat clamp. The cables routed around the reat shock seem to chafe...need to strategically place some cable ties. Some concerns...wheels, not a brand I recognize, they are sealed bearing wheels very beefy and roll very nice....not sure how they will hold up. Brake levers are another lesser known brand, time will tell how well they hold up. My past experience with a Diamondback Toponga Comp was very favorable when it come to durability...I have no reason to expect any different.
Similar Products Used:Trek Fuel 80, 90, 90 disc, and 98, Fisher Sugar3+, 4+, Specialized
Bike Setup:Psylo Race fork, squishy grips, quick release seat clamp, otherwise stock
Bottom Line:Great bike for the money. Rides great. Even if some of the lessor known parts dont hold up its still a great value. Worst case you would be replacing wheels and brake levers (~$200 depending on your tastes). I will post a 3 month review.

Favorite Trail:Oak Mountain or Cheaha State Parks
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $1756.00
Purchased At:Bought Frame Only from LBS
Strengths:Light, Strong, and just feels balanced. Black and Silver frame only package (complete bikes were Red, white & silver)
Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:Nuke Proof Stealth
Bike Setup:Rock Shox SID XC in rear and Rock Shox Psylo XC up front; Avid Mechanical Disc Brakes; XTR shifters/levers; XTR front&rear derailleurs; XTR Cassette; FSA Carbon Pro Crankset; Sun Ringle Singletrack Rims w/ XT Disc hubs; Easton Monkey Lite Carbon handlebar; Easton Carbon Post; Selle Italia Gel Saddle; Kenda Kharisma Tires
Bottom Line:I know this is not a fair evaluation since I built this frame up the way I think Diamondback should have. The reason I chose the XSL frame was the same as most here at MTBR, it had the same frame geometry as the Intense Tracer (The "Top Dog" XC rig at the time) that had me drooling over it. Yet with a new baby on the way, an Intense was not going to happen. So I built this whole bike for $100 more than just the Intense frame would have cost me, and I'm just as pleased.

Favorite Trail:Corrals Trail - 8th. Street
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1399.00
Purchased At:Reed Cycle
Strengths:The suspension is very plush, hats off to the Rockshox Duke
and SID rear. The bike is very agile and easy to throw around when the going get's rough.
Weaknesses:Pivot points developed an annoying squeak right off the showroom floor. Be sure to keep them lubed and everything will be alright. No other arguments to make.
Similar Products Used:Specialized Enduro, GT iDrive.
Bike Setup:Factory except for a THE chainstay protector.
Bottom Line:The bike has excellent value for the purchase price. Looking forward to a great summer of riding the local trails and smoking my buddies. Anyone looking for an
all-around X-country rig should take a serious look at
this bike.

Favorite Trail:Daley Ranch - All Trails
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $900.00
Purchased At:Mountain Bike Warehouse
Strengths:Awsome Handling, fast tight turning, single track and fast down hill runs, after upgrades below...frame geometry very close to Intense Uzzi SL, now I no why,....
Weaknesses:Pivot points need bearings, smooth for now but could be so plush with the bearings, regular cleaning and greaseing provides smooth action...front derailer could be better, XT ????
Similar Products Used:Gary Fisher Sugar 3+, GT 3.0, Specialized FSR Comp and Enduro
Bike Setup:Easton Monkey Lite up front, this is a must for anyone who has ridden off road motorcycles...Weyless 80mm DH stem, XT dics, SUN Ryhno Lites with Conti-Vert Pro front and back....
Bottom Line:This bike for the price cant be over looked, handling over rocks and ruts is nice, fast, quick turning and cofindence that you are in control....upgrade as noted, loctite all hardware on the crank or you will loose some screws, all others keep tight, pedal hard and enjoy...

Favorite Trail:O.P. Schnabel
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $900.00
Purchased At:Sun & Ski Sports
Strengths:Light weight, ( 28lbs ) supple or agressive to suite terrain. Great components and very agile in the tight stuff. The bike is perfect for fast, rocky downhills. The rear shock is the star of this frame with multiple settings to maintain utmost control of the bike . XT shifters quick light action. Frame is finished very well with eye catching bright yellow and black graphics. Great brakes and easy tuned to riders liking. I prefer mine with a long pull on the rear and short on front.
Weaknesses:Rear derailer needs to be upgraded ASAP and OEM tires are weak for the terrain I like. I had to replace with Panaracers by the second ride. Replaced chain once.
Bike Setup:50psi front shocks, medium to hard setting for rear
Bottom Line:Great value and not much to upgrade, unlike most of my riding buddies. Spend a little more for the dual suspension with the good mix of components and you will be happier in the long run. The only thing to upgrade might be rear derailer.
