This is my initial review, but i'll put up a 3 month one soon. | | Weaknesses: | Air shock is great, but without a shock pump i was having a hard time getting it set like i wanted. But with the pump, everything is great! | | Similar Products Used: | Demo'ed and borrowed kona stinky and giant warp. | | Bike Setup: | changed to shimano deore discs, formula hubs and alex rims. Put on my answer riser bar and replace the original tires with moto raptor, soon to be tioga dh factory. | | Bottom Line: | Great bike. somehow it seems to stay firm when pedaling but soak up the big hits when headed downhill or off dropoffs. Easily handles 240lb rider with shocks set up right. With suspension in the 4 inch mode it is very sweet. The rear brakes are very powerful, on the downside they are a little too "grabby" for my taste. This bike was head and shoulders above the other bikes I tested (Fuel, Sugar, Specialized) | | Weaknesses: | Stock grips suck. No quick release seat clamp. The cables routed around the reat shock seem to chafe...need to strategically place some cable ties. Some concerns...wheels, not a brand I recognize, they are sealed bearing wheels very beefy and roll very nice....not sure how they will hold up. Brake levers are another lesser known brand, time will tell how well they hold up. My past experience with a Diamondback Toponga Comp was very favorable when it come to durability...I have no reason to expect any different. | | Similar Products Used: | Trek Fuel 80, 90, 90 disc, and 98, Fisher Sugar3+, 4+, Specialized | | Bike Setup: | Psylo Race fork, squishy grips, quick release seat clamp, otherwise stock | | Bottom Line: | Great bike for the money. Rides great. Even if some of the lessor known parts dont hold up its still a great value. Worst case you would be replacing wheels and brake levers (~$200 depending on your tastes). The reason I chose the XSL frame was the same as most here at MTBR, it had the same frame geometry as the Intense Tracer (The "Top Dog" XC rig at the time) that had me drooling over it. Yet with a new baby on the way, an Intense was not going to happen. and SID rear. The bike is very agile and easy to throw around when the going get's rough. | | Weaknesses: | Pivot points developed an annoying squeak right off the showroom floor. Be sure to keep them lubed and everything will be alright. The bike is perfect for fast, rocky downhills. The rear shock is the star of this frame with multiple settings to maintain utmost control of the bike . XT shifters quick light action. Frame is finished very well with eye catching bright yellow and black graphics. Great brakes and easy tuned to riders liking. I prefer mine with a long pull on the rear and short on front. | | Weaknesses: | Rear derailer needs to be upgraded ASAP and OEM tires are weak for the terrain I like. I had to replace with Panaracers by the second ride. Replaced chain once. | | Bike Setup: | 50psi front shocks, medium to hard setting for rear | | Bottom Line: | Great value and not much to upgrade, unlike most of my riding buddies. Spend a little more for the dual suspension with the good mix of components and you will be happier in the long run.
