Date Reviewed: April 14, 2009
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $140.00
Purchased At:online, i don't want
Strengths:really light + strong + much harder to damage than Eggbeaters.
smashing to have platform to stomp during technical sections - then clip back in a snap afterwards.
finally a pedal that comes in black!
Crank Brothers cleat system is the best i've used.
they are really easy to maintain, if they ever get abit crunchy - servicing takes 5mins max for both pedals.
the TiN (titanium nitride coating) is not just for added blingy/tackiness - the coating actually makes the pedals they are alot more durable than the plain old SL's.

Weaknesses:if you like pies alot you might have to skip these beauties.
they are expensive ....perhaps even overpriced? (shop around!)
another product design in california - but manufactured in asia.
rocks can take revenge if your line is bad - need to look after your investment
Similar Products Used:shimano, crank brothers, toe clips argh
Bike Setup:S-Works, schmolke, Race King Supersonic, SLR Carbonio Flow, 4Ti, XTR, SRAM X.O
Bottom Line:do you like to pedal fast + have a light bicycle? yes/no
if yes - gwan buy the pedals worry about the cost later!
if no - why are you reading this stupid pedal review???!!!

Favorite Trail:Cannell Trail
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $200.00
Purchased At:LBS/ Action Sports
Strengths:Wicked light weight! Low Q-Factor
Weaknesses:Creak under load, difficult to get into to and a bit difficult to get out of.
Similar Products Used:Shimano SPD
Bike Setup:2008 Stumpy S-Works
Bottom Line:I've only ridden them a few times and they are light with a low Q-factor that's easier on my knees and hamstrings. I haven't gotten used to clicking in and out. They just don't have that easy loud snap like the Shimano's do? I'm hoping to get used to them, because I want to like them.

Date Reviewed: May 6, 2008
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $185.00
Purchased At:Ebay
Strengths:Light! Easy in and out! Lots of float to protect the knees.
Weaknesses:Creaky when pushed hard. May have too much float for some people.
Similar Products Used:Candy C, Ritchey SPD
Bike Setup:Single speed connversion
Bottom Line:These pedals are nice and light. They do creak when pushed hard. Oh well. Im usually in to much pain to care. They have lots of float and not much of a platform so they may feel too loose for some (go with the Candys instead).

Favorite Trail:font9a@gmail.com
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $300.00
Purchased At:wrench science
Strengths:light weight, cool colors, crank bros. smart design and engineering.
Weaknesses:price. 185 lb weight limit
Similar Products Used:egg beaters
Bike Setup:maverick durance with stuff on it to make it pedal uphill and down.
Bottom Line:vanity pedals. but they have no drawbacks. Better flat control than my egg beaters. I use SIDI Dragon 2 shoes and the mating is like pornstar booty call.

Again, not much platform for the no-footer free ride jumper, but these are trailbike pedals for the vanity crowd. Will last forever with regular maint and rebuilds.

I loved my egg beaters, now I've got pedal porn to revolve around.

Favorite Trail:Gas Pipe
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $320.00
Purchased At:on-line
Strengths:Super light weight, easy to clip out, clear mud real well
Weaknesses:Not to stable when clipped out
Similar Products Used:Time
Bike Setup:Santa Cruz Blur, Fox RLT100 forks, 5th Air, Panarancers, Specialized S-Works BG shoes
Bottom Line:** Update to my old review ...

Contacted the Crank Bros support team, they were really cool. Really listened to my concerns, then suggested that use the shims. So I did, what a difference. Ureal. Easy to clip in and out .. no worries now. As I stated in the first review, these pedals are crazy light, and provide a good platform to pedal on. That said, you should not expect to clip out to run downhill, this is not the platform for that. Great XC pedal, with a bit of all mountain thrown in.

Props to the Crank Brother team for helping me out. They rock. Even mailed me a set of extra shims just in case I needed to leverage two per shoe (which I didn't).

Bottom Line:These pedals are crazy light. That would be a great thing if you could reliably clip in. Once your clipped in, it's all good, but getting clipped in is crazy. If your kicking it on the trail side it's not a big deal, but getting clipped in while on the move is pretty much impossible. You have a better chance at landing a 360 air off a one ft. jump. Pretty distracting thing to deal with when you would rather be setting up for the next technical section, or looking to rail the turn. To be honest, I haven't contacted their tech support folks yet, but will be. Guessing that the platform is giving my shoe tread fits, and thus the issue. Hope that I can resolve, that was allot of coin to drop! Suppose these would be great if you never had to clip out and back in. Think that the standard egg beaters would have been a better choice, can't see them having the issue with the cleat tread.
