Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $129.00

Strengths:Chris King, UNBELIEVABLY Smooth, servicable, a piece of art!
Weaknesses:What are you kidding!

That would be none!
Similar Products Used:No comprable BB's
Bike Setup:Mojo Sl
Bottom Line:The XTR BB's are excellent. The King is unbelievable!
I use an XTR Crankset.
Smooth like you wont believe! Aluminum spacers, makes it stiff and smooth.
The best upgrade you can make!

Favorite Trail:anywhere
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $120.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:This BB is light weight and has smooth bearings at first. Don't fall into the King hype.
Weaknesses:The first ride in the rain and the bearings are seized up and grinding. I am aware of the $50 tool you need to buy to repack them, but after spending $120 on the BB and it goes to hell, I consider that a weakness.
Similar Products Used:Shimano, Race Face, Truvative
Bike Setup:08 Transition Bottlerocket, DHX 5.0, 66 RC2X, Hone Crankset
Bottom Line:I might have a bad one, but this BB is not worth the extra dough, in my opinion. I have had much, much better quality from any of the above mentioned bottom brackets.

King gives the consumers the ability to re-pack the bearings instead of buying new ones. However, the tool needed to re-pack them is another $50. According to Kings service manual, the BB needs to be repacked every 3 months. My King BB is hanging on the "wall-o-shame" now, not worth the effort. Unfortunately King falls short on this one for me.

Favorite Trail:The rocky ones
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $125.00
Purchased At:Forgot
Strengths:The stock BB that came with the SLX crankset I believed to be quite good... oh how I was wrong. Chris King is renouned for a reason, It felt as though I gained another gear it was that much smoother, not to mention I can go longer, faster now without that added resistance.
Weaknesses:Paint comes off relatively easily?
Similar Products Used:SLX outboard
Bike Setup:Sanction.. built for a beating
Bottom Line:Chris, simply put, is King.

Favorite Trail:Any
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $129.00
Purchased At:The Bike Co., Lake F
Strengths:Chris King
Weaknesses:Can't be any, it's a Chris King!
Similar Products Used:Race Face X-Type, Hope External
Bike Setup:Titus ML-1
Bottom Line:So far so good. I would go through Race Face BBs every one to three months. The Hope was a great replacement but I like the idea that you can repack the Chris King bearings with their tool very easily vs. replacing the bearings which the Hope is set up to do. My bike has the Chris King headset, hubs and now BB which are three things I don't have to worry about. Nice!!

Favorite Trail:Everything fast
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $180.00
Strengths:Impressive product that is so smooooth and stiff
Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:XT 06, XT 08
Bike Setup:Trek 9.8 OCLV 110 carbon frame, Chris King Headset + BB, Spinergy Xyclone, Ritchey WCS carbon, XTR 08
Bottom Line:This is a no brainer! It's from Chris King so you know the quality, second to none. So smooooth and so stiff - perfect!

Trails which I rode before in the middle chainring, I now ride them in the big one. Only thing changed, the BBs - impressive!

Date Reviewed: May 3, 2009
Favorite Trail:Too many!
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $125.00
Purchased At:N.P. Bike Shop
Strengths:Stiff, smooth and reliable.
Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:King headset, if that counts.
Bike Setup:2008 Niner Air9, full M970 XTR, Fox F29 fork, Easton controls. Best hardtail on the market!
Bottom Line:Once again King hits a home-run with their new BB. Combined with the new XTR crankset, it is, hands down, the most stiff, smooth and reliable BB out there. Your headtube and BB shell are the two most load bearing areas on the bike. Surround both of them with King products. The fact that you can service them with the King grease applicator is super trick, too. Spend the extra dough and forget about it.
