Date Reviewed: April 17, 2005
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $20.00
Strengths:Easy to use. Button works well. Has all of the basic features.
Weaknesses:Does not have all elaborate features. Wiring not indestructible.
Bike Setup:Schwinn Sierra GS
Bottom Line:I have really enjoyed this bike computer. It has a nice very simple design. One of the wires did pull out of the back of the unit, but I was able to solder it back in. Otherwise it has been very durable even in very occassional trips with steady rain. I bought a supergo c12 computer to replace it because the supergo unit has a thermometer, but I never installed the c12 and gave it to my dad. The velo 2 just looks of better quality (I cannot really complain the c12 was $10) and the button on the velo 2 works much better.

Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $17.00
Purchased At:Bike dealer
Strengths:Simple design, one button, long battery life, clips in and out of mounting device and still stays very secure, and low price.
Bike Setup:2001 Trek 8000 Disc
Bottom Line:It takes a beating and if you do break it your wallet will not hurt for a replacement. I can't believe the battery life, I've had mine for 4 years now and its still working and keeping accurate time.

Submitted by Andy a Weekend Warrior from Palm Desert, CA, USA
Date Reviewed: June 15, 2004
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:Came with used bike
Strengths:This computer has a big display and its single button makes unit very easy to use on the road. There's nothing tricky to distract you while riding-- something good for everyone.
Weaknesses:There are no real weaknesses to speak of. The only complaint I can imagine people having would be the computer's lack of features. Also, my button is a little "sticky," but that's just natural wear and tear.
Bottom Line:Gets the job done. From what I understand, it's a pretty affordable computer.

Features include: current speed, avg. speed, trip distance, trip time, odometer, clock.

I would recommend it to anyone looking for a cyclocomputer without all the frills. It's ease of use and simplicity make it perfect for a recreational rider like me.

Bottom Line:This is a great computer but it would have been an awsome computer if they would of put a indaglo disply on it....but for $25.00 you cant go wrong,I would recomend this to everyone.

Date Reviewed: July 28, 2003
Favorite Trail:Rocky Hill Ranch
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $22.00
Purchased At:REI
Strengths:Easy installation, legible display
Weaknesses:Apparently bad soldering, somewhat difficult to cycle through the displays while riding (button on the side, not on top)
Bike Setup:Kona Blast (pretty much stock except for PM515 clipless...)
Bottom Line:This may simply be a fluke, but I bought this computer and did all the proper installation and allowed plenty of room in the cable for fork travel. After less than 3 weeks and 35.5 miles one of the wires came unglued and broke from the main unit. Before it broke very prematurely I was pretty pleased with it. I have since returned it and gone with a Sigma Sport 800 with wireless. We'll see how that goes.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $23.00
Strengths:Cheap, reliable
Weaknesses:Only one button, only one layer of insulation on wires, not reenforced like other cateyes.
Bike Setup:2002 Stumpjumper M4
Bottom Line:I have had zero problems with this computer even after a bunck of wrecks. Once you figure it i=out the one button works great, and the wires have yet to become a problem, the people down below who have had problems probably don't have the sensor close enough to the magnet, or dont have the magnet fixed in the proper position, trey a little super glue to hold the magnet to the spoke.

Favorite Trail:BC
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $30.00
Purchased At:Sports Chek
Strengths:Cheap, durable, when you want to do something crazy and you know you will fall, the computer clicks off in a snap so you dont damage it, attractive (people will say, wow you go something on your bike), I like having the time feature, quite accurate.
Weaknesses:I want the time to show in 12 hour mode, but I HAVE TO switch to miles, when in KM, it is set to 24 hour clock. I just want KM and 12 hour clock... damnit, but I'll live with miles... damn americans

Ties that are used to hold the wire and reciever are unattractive on your forks.

Bike Setup:Trek 4500 2002 model with deore cranks
Bottom Line:Havin speed and time on yoru bike is a nice feature. Only bad things are that 12 hour clock only comes in Miles. The best thing that really pleased me is that you can take off the computer in one snap to get out of your way. Highly recommend it for the price. My greatest fear of buying this is that it will easily come out of place after drops, jumps, stairs. I thought even the smallest drop like a curb would make it jump out of place. I secured it as tight as I could to prevent it, and it seems fine. I've gone down 4 stairs as a test, did some catwalking, tiny drops and its still in just as good as a condition. And I did a tiny fall while trying to 180 endo on grass lol. Great product for the price, highly recommend it.

Weaknesses:No max speed function
Similar Products Used:Vetta, Avocet

Favorite Trail:avalon
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:was a gift
Strengths:large display, gives you what you need to know,
Weaknesses:skinny wire, poor connection,
Similar Products Used:specialized computers, (much better)
Bike Setup:00 kona fire mountain , with 01 Z4 , XT derrailleurs, kore lite forged stem
Bottom Line:This would be a great computer if the wire weren't fragile and the connection so bad. the display is great, and gives you speed, total distance, time, trip distance. the slightest vibration, though, knocks the thing out of wack, and just when you think "i've never gone this fast before" you look down and the crappy thing says "0" well for a road biker it would be great, but any slight vibration pretty much renders it useless. i'll give it 2 for being a good product that just doesn't have what it takes for the trails, but would do fine on the road; at least it could perform in one application.

Date Reviewed: March 18, 2001
Favorite Trail:W&OD
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $20.00
Purchased At:Performance Bike
Strengths:Accurate after calibration. Basic functions are quickly
paced through for performance review. Easy to Use and readable.
Weaknesses:Does not have maximum speed indicator which was sometimes interesting to me with my previous computer.
No backlight for fading light conditions.
Similar Products Used:Old Cateye that conked out after about 6 years.
Bike Setup:Schwin Prelude, old 10 speed.
Bottom Line:The Velo 2 was my basic training monitor which I used to keep my weight down and burn off excess body fat. It never failed me in the 871.2 miles that I have driven since March of 2000. I have it calibrated to be off only 1/100 of a mile in 5 miles of trail. I cannot function without a pacing monitor to give me speed information. I burned off about 5 percent body fat on this bicycle (Tanita TBF 612 body fat monitor). I am a data freak - and this is a very pleasant way to be obsessive compulsive.

Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $25.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Cheap
Easy to use
Weaknesses:Cheap
Doesn't have the full line of features
Similar Products Used:Cateye Vectra, Vetta C-10&C-15, Cateye Cordless, Cateye Mity2
Bike Setup:Steel road bike
Bottom Line:I bought this as a cheap computer for my road bike that I ride when the trails are too trashy to go mountain biking. I only desired the basic functions and that's all this computer gives you. I only bought it because of the Cateye name. Still, for a low-level piece, it gets the job done and I have not had any difficulties with it.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $20.00
Purchased At:Blak Dog Bikes
Strengths:Cheap, good if you ride hybrid or road, lightweight.
Weaknesses:Doesn't read the speed very fast. Not durable. When I was racing, there was a 2' 6" puddle in the middle, and after my second lap the computer went fuzzy and shutdown. Eversince it hasn't worked.
Similar Products Used:I think that this is the last speedo that I am going to buy.
Bike Setup:Kona Roast w/ front hayes hydro. disk. rock guard, and flat peddals
Bottom Line:Try to avoid this product. If you bike hybrid or road, you might like it because it is cheap. If you ride in the mountains... DO NOT BUY.
